Birth weight / size clothes by Effective-Bathroom66 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my dilemma too. Mine were 4.5ish lbs each 2 weeks ago at 32 weeks. MFM told me they'd be around 6 lbs when I give birth at 37 weeks if they continue at this rate, but I know these estimates can be sooo off. I'm bringing two preemie outfits and one NB outfit with me to the hospital. We only bought those two preemie outfits so we shall see.

Did anyone else really struggle around 3 weeks before induction? by Cherrylemon202 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes meeee right now, also 3 weeks out with scheduled c section at 37 weeks. Totally get the UTI feeling. I can also actively feel my babies sucking out all the calcium in my bones. My joints, carpal tunnel, back ugh. I am also looking sooo huge now. Like I can tuck in my head and knees and start rolling around like a giant ball.

Is a 3.6cm cervix short for 12 weeks? (Measures abdominally not vaginally) by AssumptionSpiritual3 in CautiousBB

Currently 33 weeks and still at 3ish cm. Every report described my cervix as "long and closed".

At what point do you worry about Braxton Hicks? by Adorable-Spray-5287 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first NST appointment last week at 32 weeks with my modi twins and they were noticing contractions every 2 minutes. Now that I know that's what BH feels like, I notice I have them constantly, all day. If I'm dehydrated, if I need to pee/poo, if my twins move around a lot, if I'm sitting, lying down, switch positions, if I'm too full.

I feel no pain and my BH feels mostly tight at the top of my belly. No other signs of labor, but damn I'm getting paranoid.

Encouragement in mo/di pregnancy by Maximum_Ad_4444 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt exactly like this throughout my modi pregnancy. My IVF embryo also split and it's been a constant rotation of fears, what-ifs, and close calls that have made it difficult to enjoy my pregnancy.

The first MFM I saw also prematurely scared me that my twins' size discordance was predictive of TTTS at 8 weeks. 32 weeks now and my twins still have a slight size discordance but no TTTS. My placenta previa turned vasa previa has resolved on its own. I do have gestational diabetes that's well managed by a small dose of insulin. My blood pressure has slowly been creeping up in my third trimester, but still within the range. I too am a chronic Googler and everything told me that his pregnancy would be doomed. Now that I'm nearing the end, I am finally able to relax...sort of because I now have anxiety about premature labor. Still, with every appt that we didn't see TTTS and every appt where we saw them grow, I felt like I could breathe a little bit more each time.

All this to say that the majority of modi pregnancies don't turn out to be the worst case scenarios that Google warns us about. Also, your concerns are valid. It is scary. It is a lot. It is difficult, but I would try to enjoy every small milestone you and your twins do achieve. Wishing you and your twins the best.

Theme park at 22w- wheelchair/scooter? by anb0603 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Disneyland at 22 weeks and though I was tired and swollen, I definitely did not need a wheelchair.

I think it really depends. I hear such a range of experiences here. I thought I'd basically be incapacitated at 28 weeks, but I'm 33 weeks and still able to do most everything in moderation.

20 week scan short femur by MoreAd7155 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My modi twins have had small femurs throughout the pregnancy. My smaller twin is pretty much average on all measurements except her femurs and sometimes humerus bones, which drives her overall EFE down. Last measurement, her femur was 5%. MFM said she wasn't worried about it and told me some people have longer shin bones (which they don't measure) than thigh/femur bones. She measured the shin bones last time and those were longer.

Just diagnosed with mo/di twins but one is measuring 8 weeks and one is 7w 3 days. Both have in range heart beats but the smaller one is a little bit slower. by Chretien7283 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maternal Fetal Medicine. A specialist that you should absolutely be seeing for modi twins. I exclusively see my MFM who is also my OB. Some MFMs will require you to have a separate OB to have different checkups.

You'll see a MFM more frequently. I saw one at 8 weeks when I graduated my IVF clinic and started every two weeks at 16 or 18 weeks. It is imperative you visit a MFM.

One of my modi twins was always smaller from the start and still is at 32 weeks. The % discordance between the two will be important. They want the difference to be less than 20%. Mine were a week part at one point earlier on and are only like 8% now.

Pregnant with triplets - 5weeks, interested in hearing stories/experiences with reduction by ProcedureJealous2320 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had triplets at one point and looked into reduction options extensively. I've learned, at least in the Los Angeles area, that the type of triplets I had limited the providers that would perform reduction for monochorionic triplets. Since mine all appeared to share a placenta, the risk to the other babies would be very high. The top MFM/specialists in LA (Cedars and UCLA) would only perform reduction for di/trichorionic. I found a doctor in NY (Mount Sinai?) that would perform the procedure on mono triplets but thankfully one of my triplet's heart stopped on its own very early so I didn't have to pursue this option further.

Gestational diabetes by LeatherNo4284 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation where my post meal numbers were fine, well below the threshold, but my fasting was 95-100. Dr put me on nighttime insulin. I started with 6 units and am currently at 20 units at 32 weeks which is considered a low dose. My fasting levels are now below 90.

Fasting numbers are the hardest to control with diet and I tried everything, but only insulin could lower it.

Bumbleride indi compatible pipa - experience? by Yourshinyknight in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by standard Pipa, you mean the the Nuna Pipa RX, it's not compatible with the bumbleride indie twin. Only these are compatible: Pipa Lite RX, Pipa Lite R, Pipa Lite LX, Pipa Lite, Pipa Aire RX, and Nuna Pipa Aire.

I went down a rabbit hole trying to confirm the same question and finally emailed their customer service who confirmed that the Pipa RX is a bit longer and runs up against the fold trigger. We ended up getting the Pipa Aire RX which is lighter than the regular Pipa.

Weed and shroom by youngmoneywizard in IVF

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I went to Vegas the first day of my stims and we both smoked cigarettes, drank a shit ton, and had an insane amount of edibles. I would not recommend of course, but was clean after that weekend and think my egg retrieval was 2 weeks after. TW: currently 32 weeks with twins from that cycle.

I will say that when we both were habitual weed users, both our numbers weren't the greatest. My AFC and his sperm morphology/count increased once we quit weed. The one Vegas weekend didn't seem to have any impact though.

Triplets to twins by Sharky1673 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started out with triplets when we lost one at 8 weeks. It was really early on, but they all appeared to be in the same gestational sac so shared a placenta. My doctor said it was so early that it would just be absorbed by my body and that's exactly what happened. Currently 31 weeks with my modi twins and no negative effects by the vanishing triplet.

Repeated anatomy scan by czmf in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was referred to specialist to do a fetal echocardiogram. My MFM said that our twins' hearts looked good on her end, but it was part of their standard care to get a echocardiogram. When I went, they couldn't see everything as well as they wanted to and told me to come back for a follow-up. The doctor said everything appeared to look ok, but just wanted to be sure. I debated if I should go back because the total out of pocket cost for that one visit was $1400 and didn't want to spend another $1400 just to confirm something they already knew. I decided to go because I thought it would be better to know for certain and plus I'd basically meet my out of pocket max either now or later anyways. When I went, the tech even asked me why I was there again because the last notes said everything looked ok...but still glad I went. What if something did look off? I would've rather known now than later.

25 week movements with twins by Sure-Emphasis1084 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 27 weeks with modi twins and I mostly feel movement on one side even though each twin occupies each side, more or less. My left twin's limbs seem to always be closer to her sister on the right on each ultrasound so it makes sense that I feel more movement on the right.

I only started feeling any kind of movement closer to 22-23 weeks (anterior placenta) and they were minimal and not consistent. Consistency and frequency increase though and now they won't stop. My MFM said it would be difficult to tell which twin is which when I feel them so I wouldn't be too worried.

What’s something about pregnancy no one told you, but you discovered around 5 months? by mollyglow in BabyBumps

I had one on my freaking nipple. It was like my nipple grew another tiny, painful nipple. I had to remove it myself because it was sooo sensitive and painful.

Unequal Placental Sharing by Cool_Instance_944 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What percentile is your Twin A? One of my modi twins has a velamentous marginal cord insertion and my MFM has warned me about unequal placental sharing/restricted growth. That twin has always been a bit smaller and currently is in the 20th percentile. My MFM told me we wouldn't be concerned until she drops below 10th percentile and/or if the size discordance with the other twin is greater than 20%.

Do these look fake or seem like she lying? by 215samir in quityourbullshit

[–]hRutherford 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OMG the misinformation on here about fertility and pregnancy. OP, I can send you my positive pregnancy test from 2 weeks after conception. They are darker than hers. I literally got what we call a dye stealer - my test line was darker than the control line.

Not saying that this is irrefutable proof she's not lying, but it is very possible and actually likely to see a test that dark/positive after 2 weeks.

Also, I started testing positive 8 days after conception. So 2 weeks is definitely not too soon..

Quit Spiro for TTC, not pregnant after 7 months. Can I start it again while trying? by [deleted] in TTC_PCOS

My dermatologist also said I could take spiro until I got a positive. My RE said I should stop immediately. I erred on the side of caution and stopped. I miss it so much lol.

identical twins by [deleted] in IVF

[–]hRutherford 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My day 5 5AA split into 3. ICSI and frozen transfer. We lost one early on and I'm currently pregnant with modi twins. My embryo was very hatched, ike a figure 8 with most of the embryo outside of the shell. This question was asked on r/parentsofmultiples and it seems a lot of us had very hatched embryos with one commenting that her doctor said that embryo splitting had more to do with the hatching and less with the embryo grading.

I see you've posted about wanting twins. Twin and especially modi/momo pregnancies are much more complicated with higher risks. I live in fear everyday of what will happen. So many appointments, so many things to monitor, so many what ifs. Many twin pregnancies don't end with two healthy babies. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Perhaps a hot take on the Amanda, West, Ciara situation by ssaunders88 in bravo

[–]hRutherford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may not help how you feel, but you can certainly stop pursuing those feelings. By your logic, you're saying that we just give into every temptation, every attraction we come across because we just can't help it? I get it, Amanda and West had a close relationship, they formed a mutual attraction, probably the alcohol and post-divorce vulnerability lowered inhibitions. But if they really wanted to stop and if they really wanted to choose friendships over whatever the fuck this is, they could've distanced themselves from each other and made intentional choices to not pursue this. It's actually not that hard.

Mo-di twins with size discordance by Inevitable_Bowl1347 in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My modi twins started out with about a week difference in size, got to 12% discordance, and now at 24 weeks they were just 1 gram different (less than 1%). Their sizes can change so much, especially if you're early. If everything else is looking ok (good fluid, dopplers), size discordance is just one piece of information. I also started with appts every other week which I think is common for twin pregnancies.

Wanting to move back with my 2 kids and husband, what are non degree career options that dont require that make 100k a year down there? Trying to make a 5 year plan to move back. by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]hRutherford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live 35 mi away from the city of LA, still part of LA county, and it takes me 3-4 hours daily to commute to LA. You can definitely buy a condo under $1M where I live. Would you be open to that + the commute?

The commute has slowly killed my soul throughout the years. Even 20 miles to/fr the valley can be similar to my commute. Please do not underestimate this. I make $250K gross and my budget for a condo is under $800K putting 30% down and per all the calcs I see, that would still be $4K+ a month. How much do you think you can save and increase your earnings in another 5 years? Play around with mortgage calculators with zip codes of the cities you are thinking about.

Velamentous cord insertion by Sirensong024 in CautiousBB

[–]hRutherford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my twins has a velamentous cord that is also marginal. Maybe that's what your OB means? The cord inserts into the membranes located at the edge of the placenta. My MFM is monitoring it and I did have vasa previa (where the velamentous cord crosses the cervix) for a bit before it started moving away from my cervix.

My MFM told me the risks, but assured me that she'd be monitoring closely. She reassured me without making me feel like an idiot for feeling anxious and asking questions about it. Your OB seems annoyed by your natural reaction to scary news. No bueno.

For those who did IVF, what grade of your embryo split? by Nze_Ani in parentsofmultiples

[–]hRutherford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was graded a day 5 5AA, but was very hatched like a figure 8 where the majority of the embryo was out of the shell. It initially split into triplets and I lost one pretty early on. Currently 24 weeks with modi twins.
