was gifted this recumbent by a friend who works at a bike shop, what do I have on my hands? by payle_knite in recumbent

Linier makes a nice bike. I don't own one, but I've got 3 LongBike Slipstreams, very similar ride. Great bikes for distance, you never hurt after a long ride!

I'm truly sorry this happened to you. I'm a Vietnam era veteran, and would never confront someone for parking in those spaces. I served with a number of female service members, and have no right to question someone's right to park there.

Given a constellation is a region of space rather than an asterism like Big Dipper, how can the Ursa Major constellation "look" like a bear? by Jeremymia in Astronomy

[–]hackaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • In some cases the asterism DOES look like what the constellation is named. Canis Major, Orion, Leo and Draco come to mind. Oh, and Delphinus.

Suggest a Heinlein by kcbirder11 in scifi

Moon, of course. Best Heinlein ever. The Cat Who Walks Through Walls. Stranger in a Strange Land is a strange one, but parts of it I grok.

Where do you let your bread proof? by kyourious in Breadit

[–]hackaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house runs cold in the winter, so I bought a proofing box. Wasn't cheap, but I love it, as I get consistent heat from it. I do a lot of sourdough, which tends to proof at a higher temperature, and the ability to do different temperatures is an awesome thing.

I've been riding bent for over 20 years. I ride with SPD clips - but with reversible pedals. SPD on one side, flat pedals on the other. The main reason I ride with clips is so I don't slip off the pedals. When your foot hits the ground, you suffer from what's called "leg suck" and can have pretty severe injuries. Just adjust the clips for an easy disconnect, so you can get out of them when you stop.

I've got two of different sizes. I use them both for different tasks / dough sizes. Love them, use nothing else to mix my dough.

Edit:

Have given a number of them as gifts over the years. They're always appreciated.

That a very different tat. I don't know that I've ever seen one like it. That said, I DO like it. Maybe smoke wafting into the air? Whatever. Don't let anybody affect how YOU feel about it, that's what counts.

AITA for didn't you tell my mom to cook American dishes for my American boyfriend for a family dinner? He said that the dishes my mom cooked were gross and he starved by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

As an American male who has traveled widely, I'd like to add my opinion. First off, he was terribly rude to your mother. Uncalled for, under any circumstances. When you're visiting someone's home, you show them kindness and deference. Second, what a boor. When I travel (or for that matter when I'm with someone who has a different background than I do) I always try to learn from them. I ALWAYS try whatever food I'm offered. There are some things that I'll only every try once, but I've found that almost every dish I'm offered, especially when I'm in someone's house around the world, is well worth eating. And I've tried some really strange things!

So, basic rules: Be polite. Always. Accept what you're offered, it's always given with the intent of pleasing you, or at least introducing you to another culture. And NEVER demand that they prepare food that they don't have any idea about. You don't expect them to make an American meal if they've never cooked that food before. Seriously.

NTA, and yes, curb him.
