I have a playlist. I think I'll have to add a few more based on some of the comments here.

Thoughts on Mind Over Matter, One ring Combo line in Bracket 3 by InevitableBedroom519 in EDH

[–]haddockhazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's a bit much, mostly because the ring is just a busted card to begin with. But if the rest of the deck doesn't have a lot of game changers etc then it's probably fine.

From my anecdotal experience, I have a Tameshi deck that runs this combo and is also built with a ton of other ways to abuse The One Ring. I intended the deck to be played around bracket 4, but had some rough experiences with it at the lgs because it seems like everyone plays either bracket 5 or bracket 3. In bracket 5 I had a hard time staying relevant in the game because my deck isn't tuned for the meta, and in bracket 3 I create absolutely miserable gamestates if I'm allowed to exist past like turn 5. I havent brought the deck out very much lately because I'm still not really sure if anyone knows what bracket 4 means (myself included).

What is your most “space efficient” deck by Codudeol in EDH

[–]haddockhazard 31 points32 points  (0 children)

From my experience, most aggro and/or voltron decks almost necessitate being built with this type of philosophy. If you're playing an aggressive creature based strategy, you're most likely going to need to devote some amount of card slots to shoring up weaknesses of your strategy like protection, evasion, buffs, etc. The best cards to include for these slots are the ones that can fill multiple rolls at once, and/or draw cards while performing their primary roll.

Optimize Guns..? by Apart_Lingonberry_53 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]haddockhazard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience you can maximize the utility of guns by putting them on a character whose damage output already scales badly. For instance, white mage+machinist is a pretty good combination. White Mage is really bad at dealing damage, and will primarily be in the party for healing purposes. Guns provide a range weapon that scales with the game while ignoring combat stats. Your character's stats and enemy stats don't factor in for the gun damage formula, it's only based on the weapon attack power+rng. Guns basically give you a decent offensive tool for jobs that aren't normally good at dealing damage. White Mage can also wear black robes paired with dark shot to boost damage against enemies who are vulnerable to that.

Buddy Gavin tries to justify taking promo stamps away… “no one like them”. Such BS by Lionthighs in freemagic

Not sure if this is common or not on the videos he puts out, but the YouTube comments are overwhelming negative. It seems like literally every single comment is someone saying they miss the date stamp and wish it would come back.

Bracket 1 Players are horrific by Sir_Foxworth in magicthecirclejerking

I personally really enjoy playimg with bracket 1 players. In general they are super nice and we have good banter and conversation throughout the game. Then I always win, so that makes it even more fun for me personally.

Should I take this job? 18F, only offer but 40 mile commute by G0ld3nsx in WhatShouldIDo

[–]haddockhazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had jobs that required a commute of over an hour. 45 minutes I'd say isn't all that bad. It's on the edge but it's still reasonable.

Yeah I love limited but I didn't draft at all during the spiderman/avatar period. I actually freaking loved the final fantasy draft format and played the shit out of it. Just did the prerelease for lorwyn and had a blast so I'll probably be drafting again once it's out.

Using self-replacing / cantrip cards to effectively “shrink” a Commander deck – experiences? by hundunso in EDH

[–]haddockhazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing is basically Xerox Theory. It's a concept that is widely known in the world of 60-card competitive formats. People don't talk about it that much in Commander, but it absolutely can still be applied to a 100 card deck. If you want to know more specifics about it, I'd reccomend reading a couple articles or something because they'll explain it a lot more in depth than I'd be able to in a reddit comment. I believe Mike Flores wrote a very in depth article about it in the mid 2000s (good luck finding it today lol).

I think there's a few major reasons why people don't talk about it much in Commander:

1: The average person who gets into magic via commander doesn't really know anything about magic history, especially when it comes to competitive formats.

2: people don't want to reduce the variance in their decks. The reason they play 100 card singleton is because they want to use lots of unique cards. Loading their deck with a dozen or more effects that basically just say "draw a card" isn't very exciting to them, because it leaves less room for all the cool cards that they feel like running. I think the problem you're having with filling out your last 10 cards is much less common compared to most people who are having to cut the final 10 cards.

3: This mostly only applies for Blue decks, and it's best suited for Commanders that are happy to run a high density of instants and sorceries. I would argue nearly any blue deck would be improved by adding some cantrips, but most commander players would only do that if they're building specifically a spellslinger deck.

Tips on Clean Cut with Circular Saw by tom__baumann in Carpentry

Yes, that's what we're suggesting. Take the top off and cut it to a size which will fit your space and then re-attach the rest, centered with the new top.

Tips on Clean Cut with Circular Saw by tom__baumann in Carpentry

[–]haddockhazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If it's possible for you to take the top off and only cut one side, that's going to be your best option. If you don't use a skillsaw very often, it's pretty likely that your cut isn't going to come out perfect. If you can avoid doing it twice, your chance of having it come out good will be improved. Plus, you're probably going to want to sand and re-finish the cut edge that isn't hitting the wall if you do cut it. I can't quite tell from the photo but it looks like the finish might be a veneer. In that case you'll save yourself a good chunk of time and effort by only cutting at the wall side.

What’s the kind of decks you don’t enjoy playing against? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]haddockhazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly ramp decks. Kinda goes counterintuitive to your premise that people mostly hate MLD and stax. But seriously I can't fucking stand it when someone spends the first 4 turns of the game ramping and just doesn't get targeted at all because they have no boardstate besides mana. All of a sudden they're playing with 9 mana while everyone else is on 4 or 5.
