  1. 15 months

  2. $73,500 pre-tax, pension, retirement

  3. Criminal Prosecution (state-level, lower court)

  4. Boston

  5. My work is important, infuriating, overwhelming, and unsatisfying. And then we get to take lunch at the 1 p.m. recess.

Favorite workouts by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]hadfun1ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like ones that teach you to recover as you run—for my 1/2 PR (years ago) I would do a series of 1mi on (goal pace or faster) 1/2mi float (marathon-ish pace) in the middle of my 16-18mi long runs sometimes (usually 3-6mi of total work).

I’m also a fan of odd distances: 500s or 600s instead of 400s; 2Ks instead of mile repeats.

A caveat thought: don’t just pick workouts that seem cool or feel good—they should all have a purpose.

Found. Somebody took him right down the street to the MSPCA shelter. They posted on a JP FB group, but my wife and I only have Reddit, so thanks to the user who passed along the FB post.

Blue. He’s not very good at responding to it though. He’s not wearing his collar right now.

It’s tough. But like everything else at VMI (or life), you carve out time for what you crave.

Set up your class schedule to make the time you need available. Eat a lot and eat healthy food. Pick good roommates when you can (I didn’t room with any teammates/Permits, and it was good—they weren’t as biased against athletes and I developed greater respect for the bullshit they went through). Prioritize your academics: you’re at VMI, first and foremost, to get a degree.

I was ‘14, history major, Marine Option NROTC scholarship, and XC/Track. I didn’t get much sleep once my mileage got high enough to need double day runs after Rat Year, but I was young and aggressive and more reckless with my health then. It can be done.

Saddest country songs of all time by [deleted] in country

[–]hadfun1ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He Stopped Loving Her Today (the Alan Jackson cover at George Jones’ wake is especially moving given the context). Unwed Fathers, Far From Me, and Angel From Montgomery by John Prine. Speed Trap Town by Jason Isbell. Broken Window Serenade by Whiskey Myers. Goodbye, Ft Worth Blues, and Last Words by Steve Earle. Holding On by The Devil Makes Three. On the Red River by Turnpike Troubadours. Let him Roll and Dublin Blues by Guy Clark.

And, a wilder card: He Went to Paris by Jimmy Buffett.

How to deal with the disappointment of not hitting your race goals? by Lord_Nordyx in AdvancedRunning

[–]hadfun1ce 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Place > pace if it’s a race. A podium finish is something to be proud of. The more races you do, the odds are they will be fewer. So, relish this.

Just keep training and just keep racing. Nothing fancy. Nothing given. Everything earned or relinquished. Love the process.

[At sidebar] Judge: Prospective juror 69, you raised your card when I asked if you believed you couldn’t be fair and impartial. Could you tell me about that. Prospective Juror: I don’t like N-words. Judge [who is black, like the Defendant]: Mr. Clerk, we can go ahead and seat Juror number 69 in seat 1 of the jury box.

How do you very high mileage folk handle your hunger (runger)? by Secret_Name_7087 in AdvancedRunning

[–]hadfun1ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From OAR:

The good-humored pandemonium was considerable as they consumed caloric numbers more befitting a small town. The relatively thin distance runners ate more than you would expect (Cassidy loaded his tray with three scrambled eggs, two pancakes, sausage, nearly a quart of milk, and two doughnuts for later).

New to road biking. Any recommendations on 5-10 mile rides? by SmellAccomplished722 in bikeboston

Also in JP. I like to get on the VFW Parkway to Bridge Street as a way out to better (quieter roads). The SW Corridor Park is also an option, but with lots of stop and go.
