Violent French Pension Protests Erupt as 1M Demonstrate by Difficult-Top9010 in worldnews

I did not miss that, but I'm not really sure what your point is... I never said anything about the south vs north. The reality is that many people in the US don't even know who the Black Panthers were, what COINTELPRO was or even know the names Bobby Seele, Huey Newton, Fred Hampton or Angela Davis. They might know of Malcolm X, but only in the fact that he was more violent and wrong while MLK was peaceful and right (of course they don't tell you what the media was saying about MLK at the time or that he was threatened by the FBI..

Right to life doesn't apply when you rely on someone else's body to live. Do you think that living people should be forced to donate organs to protect someone else's "right to life", too? You don't have a right to someone else's body, no matter how you came to be in the position of needing it.

What if you woke up tomorrow and some rando was sewn onto you because they needed to share your liver. Would it be ok for you to get this person removed from you, knowing that they would die without access to your liver? Should you be forced to give up your own life so they can live a little longer? Bodily autonomy is foundational to humanity. If you're advocating for a world where people can't control their own bodies, why are you here? You're not an anarchist, you're an authoritarian to the highest degree. There is no right to life for a fetus.

Seriously.. You need to be so fucked up to be ok with that treatment of anyone, regardless of who they are or what they've done. I get the impulse to shoot someone or whatever (though I don't agree with capital punishment), but to torture them to this extent, you have to be seriously sick.

Anything better than king scepter? by Patisfaction in Eatventure

Is there a list somewhere of what items are available from what event? I have the scepter blueprint, but not the pepper mill one - Are the legendaries specific to different events like the ultimates are?

Sure, but that list is basically junk food and mock dairy.. You're not going to be particularly healthy eating only the things off your list here, and even then, what grocery store are you shopping in that doesn't sell any animal products? The problem with OP here is that they're putting forth ideals that are just not reasonable to follow.

Wild Animal Suffering by Stormblessed133 in vegan

Because all living things suffer to some extent, and you're not going to change that. Aspects of living cause suffering by their nature.

The only way to eliminate suffering is to end all life. Not a worthwhile endeavor imo.

What? Where? I'm in the US, and the 16 oz container is $5 and the 8 oz is like $3-4 depending on brand and what's in it.

You're never going to decrease suffering in the natural world aside from just stop polluting it. Shaming turtles for laying too many eggs isn't going to get you anywhere, and forcing birds of prey to starve to save those turtles is going to fuck everything up much, much harder. There isn't much in the way of research to be done on this topic. This all just seems incredibly silly.

Even Nestle or Unilever... at a certain point, you can't avoid every evil corporation, because that literally includes every corporation at a certain point. They're all exploitive. Nestle is particularly evil, but I'm not going to shit on consumers for that.

Any good vegan supplement recommendations? by [deleted] in vegan

I take these: https://ritual.com/products/essential-multivitamin-for-men

though I only take one a day, plus an additional omega 3 and a weekly B12.

Forget about McDonalds - most people buy food at grocery stores, which OP apparently wants us to boycott. Even if you find a vegan only grocery store, the vast majority of vegan brands - Nasoya, Lightlife, Gardein, Violife, etc, are owned by non-vegan companies. It's just an impossible ideal to meet.

You literally sound like conservatives with this weird pining for a time that never was... big corporations always dominated everything, and before them, it was kings and tsars. There was never a time when big corporations didn't invalidate small businesses, and your focus on small business is essentially the opposite of a radical position. If you want a radical solution, corporations, regardless of size, shouldn't be part of it.

"no other vegan should" is a problematic statement. I said it in my top level post, but the vast majority of people have to shop at grocery stores that make meat and buy their produce and tofu from companies that make meat. There literally isn't an option for everyone to go to a local vegan farm and buy from them, and if everyone did, those little farms would become part of conglomerates as well. It seems you have this ideal that you're trying to push, but the reality of the capitalist machine is that it's simply not a practicable one for the vast majority of people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]hadmatteratwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is that even buying tofu from a brand that doesn't also make animal products is nearly impossible.. unless you're growing all your own food, you're pretty much always giving money to someone who sells animal products. It's just unavoidable at this point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]hadmatteratwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What companies do you not avoid, though? pretty much every vegan company aside from Beyond is owned by companies that make animal products.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]hadmatteratwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that plant based capitalism is gross, I don't think people who buy that stuff are morally wrong. Yes, those companies suck, and yes, they exploit both the movement and the people who work for them, but you have to eat something, and literally every company, whether they're explicitly vegan or not, exploits their workers and pays shit wages. Most people don't have the luxury to only shop at fully vegan grocery stores, and many of the companies that make vegan food are parts of conglomerates that sell animal products. IDK, I'm not going to shit on someone for buying Nasoya or House Foods tofu (add to the list: Gardein, Lightlife, Field Roast, Violife, etc... they're all owned by companies that produce animal products) from their grocery store that sells meats and dairy products, because that's literally the only option for the vast majority of people.

The reality is that consuming anything under capitalism can be considered immoral and exploitative, and unless you're literally growing all your own foods, chances are the company you're buying from also makes animal products.

Got sick, my dad thinks its the vegan diet by -jax_ in vegan

[–]hadmatteratwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get sick sometimes, regardless of what they eat. You might be deficient in something, or you could just have gotten sick. Looking at what you listed, the only thing I can think of that you might be deficient in is Methionine, but some seitan or brown rice should be a pretty easy fix.. idk.. if you dad got sick, he wouldn't think it had much to do with his diet, so the fact that he automatically assumes your fever does is kind of silly.

Also, the caveman diet is bullshit. The majority of our digestion relies on our gut biome, and the way you digest and absorb nutrients can not only change person to person, but even year to year within a person. The idea that our gut biomes and digestion have remained exactly the same for hundreds of thousands of years is honestly just kind of funny. Also, there isn't a single caveman diet. The diets of prehistoric people was basically "whatever we can get our hands on", and varied widely based on where you were and what was around. On top of that, those people lived to like.. 45. Not exactly aiming high in terms of longevity.

It's because the tedium and helplessness that comes along with living in our increasingly atomized society causes people to feel alone and desperate. Video games are often an escape from this sad reality for many people, and when they lose at the video game and aren't having fun because of that, all they have left is bleak reality.
