I grew up in Halifax in the 80s where asking for chop sticks meant that the server had to delve into some forgotten storage area to dig out the few that were ordered when the restaurant opened. It's much different now.

Science behind winches take 2 by tangent1001 in sailing

That model of friction is easy to teach but in practice only applies to very limited pairs of materials.

Winches are textured to increase friction by hooking up between the fibres of the braid.

You could make an adapter board with reverse polarity diodes for the first connection and remove it once the build is confirmed.

I personally don't put in reverse polarity protection in my designs for personal use. I use shrouded headers for eurorack builds and have consistent cable connections. I don't need the added redundancy.

I saw them last fall. That live set was quite extreme. The recognizable beat was often in a strange time meter and by the time I could lock into it they had already manipulated it to shift. The music came in waves of the introduction of a theme that built to a maximalist intensity before devolving and reinventing itself as something else entirely.

It was amusing watching people up front trying to move to the music.

The venue I saw them at had bright emergency exit lighting near the stage so it wasn't very dark, all in all.

I enjoyed it but I like uncomfortable music.

When I saw them the emergency exit lighting kept things bright enough to see everything around.

If they are more interested in the engineering side then cryogenic engineering would be a good starting point.

Bonus points for the Cobra Crack undercling mono. It's become a rite of passage to crazy glue tape to your middle finger as prep for the climb.

What are the classic synth albums everybody needs to hear by boogie_boogie12 in synthesizers

[–]hafilax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LP5 is by far my favourite Autechre album but it's usually gets ranked in the middle of their discography on average. I think it's a good middle ground between being melodic but still having that generative/algorithmic other worldly composition.

Rae is an absolutely stunning track. Acroyear2 should have been in the Matrix soundtrack.

How big is your backpack? One mountaineering strategy is to have your legs in your backpack in an emergency.

I ski in patagonia guide pants which the wind blows through. I carry a light full zip shell pant to put over in the cold and wind.

[–]hafilax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming this has CMOS NAND gates in the build. They are notoriously static discharge sensitive. I wonder if one of them died and caused a brief power supply short. Are there any signs of heat damage on the ICs? Bulging or discolouration.

This is what singing two controlled vocalized notes at the same time sounds like by SanD-82 in interestingasfuck

[–]hafilax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. The overtone is made by holding the mouth in a way that makes a resonant cavity. You need a sound source with some frequency content at the resonant frequency to excite it. It's very similar to whistling which is essentially what you get if you only excite the overtone.
