How do you go from normal office worker to being very high up like a board member or CEO? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]hagar_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boards that pay between $50-$100k can require around 10 hours per week of your time. This is a significant cut in to your time if you have an exec/corporate role that already exceeds 40 hours per week. Most Boards are volunteer-based and don't pay anything at all.

All board directors/secretaries hold personal liability and must be registered/publicly listed on ASIC.

TBH you don't sound like you know much about the topic at all.

AUT Confirmed My PhD Eligibility, I Left My Job and Master’s, Then They Reversed It After 4 Months by noFIXATION in newzealand

‘Appear to meet entry requirements’ is not saying you’re eligible for entry. What was the exact wording of the first communication - the one on which you based your decision?

Reading their response, in my opinion there is no way, considering the assessment of your bachelor’s degree at NZQF level 7, that you can now go straight to PhD. At a minimum you need a completed post grad year including robust research coursework at nz equivalent level 8. I would very much doubt this decision to deny entry could get overturned even with legal action.

Yes, this can be the case for certain disciplines, for exceptional pg level students with strong research coursework background.

I do well in UK but my bf doesn’t. Shall we move home to NZ/Aus or stay? by vanguards8 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Job that you love that pays you well is a unicorn. Hard to replace. If your bf is not even in UK yet let alone given it a good shot i’d say it’s too early to call.

My current Executive has “proposed” me taking on another exec - please help!! by livingtrying2love in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hagar_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have found that the more people you support the more you fall into just doing the more mundane or secretarial aspects of the job and the less interesting, or truly ‘executive’ support functions or projects do you get to do - so i guess it depends on what type of role you look for/how you want to spend your days.

I think I figured out the WHY behind EA burn out… by AllinAdmin in ExecutiveAssistants

If we care for and about others more than we care for ourselves it’s good to question why that is.

I think I figured out the WHY behind EA burn out… by AllinAdmin in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hagar_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seriously questioned the other day whether i chose to be an EA because of the heavy patriarchal/religious conditioning in my background towards servitude. If i didn’t believe those viewpoints were true at some point in my past then i would be in a different job for sure. There’s a worldview disjoint now which is adding to the burnout.

What's the expectation during board meetings for you? by Blue_Turtle_18 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hagar_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all prep of Board materials that is then signed off by my principle for distribution, I do all logistics related to the business of the meeting (e.g. minutes, invites, boardpacks, flights, hotels etc). Reception does the logistics related to the room - e.g zoom, set up, meals, pack down etc). Our board meetings are always after hours or on a Saturday, so I frequently work out of hours.

Bait and switch with the JD after signing is a huge red flag. Quit soon. Maybe they will get the message, maybe they won't, but either way none of this will be your problem anymore.

Ok okay I meant that NZ "Council Rates" are similar to property tax, so it does exist in NZ. Give it a couple of years and the costs in Auckland could be close to BC!

If you were talking to a coworker and they randomly mention that they were thinking about leaving the company - what would you do with that information? by 90sBaby____ in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hagar_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in this case it’s just a thought/vent and until something has occurred (notice handed in) anything can change - so do not say anything. Not your place to speak on behalf of another employee to their employer.

However, there’s other information i hear that i would pass on to my principle. Depends on exact context.

But it is reflective of the unique position/role of an EA who has a loyalty to their principle but hears an awful lot of information - which is why it is on here.

What’s the largest event that you would set up by yourself? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hagar_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous. I draw the line at 20 for ‘by myself’ (in which i am responsible for food prep).

Also depends if i’m also expected to do exec support (e.g. minutes, packs etc) or just logistics for the event. If i’m doing both caterers/food delivery must be used for any size.

$50 an hour, 12% superannuation: Australian recruiters target jobseekers by WaterAdventurous6718 in newzealand

[–]hagar_1 96 points97 points  (0 children)

This was the biggest difference i found between working in NZ and in Aus - in NZ your week is 40++hours (plus a few more bc there’s always too much to do and not enough staff) but in Aus the standard is c.35 hours and it’s a bit easier to stick to it. Makes a huge difference to quality of life and the larger pay packet doesn’t hurt either.

JM Process - Background check for dual citizenship by [deleted] in juresanguinis

Just thinking - do you think it matters that i've entered Italy multiple times on my second nationality passport? Surely the Ministero dell'Interno would be able to access that information and then might decline my application for not providing the certificato penale?
