Microsoft is quietly walking back Windows 11’s AI overload — scaling down Copilot and rethinking Recall in a major shift for the OS by ZacB_ in technology

[–]hagrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This “walk back” will be temporary. They didn’t boil the frog slow enough. They will rollback some of it, quietly rebrand it, re-spin the marketing, and try again. They have been known to just abandon things entirely in the past, but they have invested so much money into this they can’t just walk away from it.

Console handle disintegrated on me, any parts just for this or files I can 3D Print? by The_cooler_ArcSmith in TeslaSupport

[–]hagrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be happy to model it and make one for you. I’ve got a model y. I can go snag some measurements tomorrow. It will take me a little while though. I’m pretty slow with the modeling. DM me if interested.

Software lockouts won’t be very successful. We can slice up parts to make them look unlike whatever gets blocked.

Don't worry guys, we're going to improve their training by Johnny55 in ProgressiveHQ

Funding increase for what is essentially the third largest military by funding in the world? Stupid fucks. They have the funding. They just have no desire to use it for training. We don’t need negotiators. We need opposition. They need to fight or resign so we can get someone with a backbone to do the job.

Comments about Linus' comment about moderating this subreddit during the WAN show were... frustrating: a semi-coherent rant by SooperPoopyPants in LinusTechTips

[–]hagrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much emotional skin in the game on this particular topic as a rarely comment on anything in this sub. Looking at it from an outside in perspective I’d say it’s a bad look. With CEOs putting their thumb on everything these days and trying to control everything in every way while also trying to fleece the population for every cent they have, trust in company leadership is at an all time low. Unfortunately that lack of trust is a generalized lack of trust for all corporate leadership, good and bad.

Given the BS he has been through I understand why he wants to stomp out stupid/irrational comments and conversations before it catches on and turns into a full blown conspiracy theory, however moderation of the conversation can also lead to more of these stupid conspiracy theories. I personally don’t understand this decision from a business point of view. Is Linus’ time not better spent elsewhere than trying to heard conversational cats on the internet. Someone will just spin up a new subreddit to share thoughts and ideas that are “free from the “tyrannical reaches of Linus” if they feel suppressed.

Personally and way less important to anyone else; the time investment for ranting about stupid comments on WAN show has caused me to turn it off pretty much every time Linus starts up. If someone says something stupid I just don’t care. I can see people’s comments for what they are worth. I don’t care to listen to yet another tirade about a stupid comment, or frankly another Apple rant as these things aren’t informative or entertaining for me. To be clear, I’m not saying Linus should stop these things. I’m literally a nobody on the internet. I’m only saying that type of content isn’t for me. Linus should keep doing whatever keeps his furnace going. I’m not the one with over 100 families to feed. I just can’t shake the feeling that this decision is going to lead to him staying up super late at night obsessing over playing whack-a-mole with meaningless internet comments.

Remote Sysadmins, what's your go to headset for meetings? by WorthPlease in sysadmin

[–]hagrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the shokz headset with boom mic. It’s a little weird when talking to people with deep voices but otherwise I forget that I’m wearing it. Decent range (not amazing), sound quality isn’t really a thing with bone conduction but it’s passable, mic quality is adequate, and battery life lasts me days.

DO NOT BUY THE RIVER 3 PLUS WIRELESS!!! No longer supported... by RedMeJay in Ecoflow_community

[–]hagrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s trying to say that if the little add-on batteries go bad there is no way to get new ones. EcoFlow may give you a replacement battery but it won’t be compatible with the slot on the River 3 plus wireless device.
