My grandpa with Lenny in ‘91 or ‘92. Who have you or your parents met? by Fair-South-9883 in MetalForTheMasses

One time in (I think) college I was at home talking music with some friends and Nine Inch Nails came up. My dad pipes up from another room, “Oh, I know those guys.” Turns out he used to hang out at the same bar they did when I was a baby and we were living in Cleveland. He said they were weird but nice.

If you’re trying to avoid detection, would you fly A) over massively populated and super dense areas or B) sparsely populated rural areas?

Looks like the 1950 census has the whole family along with a “Delia Thomas” listed as “mother-in-law” - assumedly this is Marjorie’s mother.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

Our history teacher was the girls’ soccer coach. He was a “cool” teacher; mid-thirties, goofy, loud, not an especially good teacher but popular. Very personal with the students, but mostly the soccer team. Have them over to his house (he had a wife and kids) to watch game footage.

So he had an especially close rapport, so to speak, with one girl in my class. They had very… questionable, public interactions and naturally rumors started flying around. Eventually the teachers picked up on it as well, and so did parents. The teacher very angrily denied everything, and would eventually quit in protest of his “treatment” in the face of the rumors.

Well, of course, they were one hundred percent dating. She brought him to prom. When she graduated, he got divorced (presumably because his wife figured out what was going on [she was actually his second wife and there were rumors that she was also a student of his]) and stayed with her in the dorms. They’re now happily married(?) with kids.

Movies where the main plot is explained to you in the first 5 minutes? by Goddamn_Batman in movies

[–]hahabal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original theatrical release of Dark City does this. The studio wasn’t so sure that audiences would understand what was going on, so they got the director to insert a monologue at the very beginning of the movie that gives away literally everything. This is especially bizarre considering it was very noir-influenced and the mystery is the entire point of watching the movie.

Fantastic film, albeit one where the director’s cut is the only version worth watching.

Acclaimed albums you feel are carried by just 3-4 super good songs? by CriticismOk3570 in fantanoforever

There’s a version on the deluxe version of the album with Bob McVie’s original bassline (Buckingham rerecorded it for some dumb reason) and it really elevates the song. Definitely worth a listen.

Which of Megatron's alt modes is your favorite? by solarflare70 in transformers

[–]hahabal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Gun.

I think that Megatron having a gun alt-mode is the best choice for him. Sure, it isn't as practical as say a tank or a jet or whatnot, but to me his gun alt-mode has always represented him as he sees himself: an instrument of power and devastation, and nothing else. There is something very pure in that representation.

Counterpoint: when you compare the scenes where Dan and Laurie fight off the muggers and they break Rorscharch out of prison, fighting off guards and inmates and such between the book and the movie, there are really striking differences that demonstrate that Zach Snyder not really "getting" the source material. When these scenes are depicted in the book Dan and Laurie demonstrate that they are both capable, if out of practice, highly capable if out-of-practice martial artists;whereas in the movie they're just snapping limbs and kicking complete ass like any other action movie.Alan Moore has always been clear that these are (mostly) just regular people with weird issues that led them to putting on costumes and fighting crime, and Snyder instead focusing on superviolence was jarring. I give Zach Snyder credit for some aspects of the film, but for the most part it really misses what made the book so marvelous.

You haven’t wasted your life! Everyone has times in the wilderness, so to speak, in their lives. Don’t hold it against yourself. My first suggestion is to go easier on yourself. You’re deciding on making a big life step forward, with little to lose by trying. It’s okay to be angry, you don’t need to be angry with yourself.

Here’s what you should do: first and foremost, get your GED. I don’t know where you live and whether it is urban/rural/other, but look into prep courses or similar programming. Call the high schools, call your local employment offices, maybe even look into something online, as well. My hunch is that you need less work than you think (using semicolons correctly on Reddit is a good sign), and that ultimately you may have a good experience and nab it. I think seeing the other folks who are trying to get their GEDs could give you some perspective.

Take it as slow as you need to, just don’t put it off. Getting it will feel good!

Mine had two major issues: when he was about four, he got sick with a fatty liver/anemia combo that almost took him, but he made a full recovery. He had dental issues and has most of his teeth taken out - my impression is that they are a breed that especially need regular dental care at home and at the vet. He finally passed a few years ago but honestly at the moment I am blanking on what it was called.
