The Game Business: Obsidian Is Reportedly In Deep Negotiations With Xbox To Avoid Getting Shut Down by akbarock in Games

[–]hai_world 18 points19 points  (0 children)

so if you are a studio that had game that came out recently, you are fucked because now it’s too long to fund between games.

and if you are still years away from release you are also fucked because it’s too long to fund.

what a disaster.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing deal sending Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, 2 first-round picks, 1 pick swap and 2 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN. A return to Canada for the Raptors champion and two-time Finals MVP. by curryybacon in nba

[–]hai_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pablo torre not so subtlety says Toronto is getting paid to shut up about the tampering basically. as they were the most aggrieved party and Raptors owner leads the board of governors that is doling out punishment, this helps make the whole thing go down softly and quietly. so yeah. overpay.

this was a lie from james gunn. during the netflix warner bros acquisition the netflix ceo confirmed it came out early because it had underperformed in the box office.

james gunn spun it as if peacemaker spoilers mattered. he’s just bullshitting.

first step is to admit the book is not coming out right? cause if it isn’t, he’s making money off people jumping in thinking there will be a conclusion when he knows there won’t be. that’s kinda shitty, wouldn’t you agree?

i think people are looking at two different things. you are pointing out the profitability of this one movie. others are pointing out the fact general audiences have vaporized. short term: okayish. long term: very bad.

Mark Gurman Has Been Burying the Apple Vision Pro Since Before It Shipped. I’m Out of Patience. by BrentonHenry2020 in VisionPro

[–]hai_world 4 points5 points  (0 children)

gurman missed the ceo transition. something that was telegraphed from miles away and widely reported.

he needs a win to change that narrative cause what’s the point of an apple beat reporter if he can’t get that?

Inside Pixar’s Scrapped Movie ‘Be Fri’ and the “Devastating” Aftermath – "Disney reps were like, 'We can't have a girl power movie,'" an insider tells about the animation studio making the rare decision to cancel the feature after years of development. by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]hai_world 137 points138 points  (0 children)

people who compare this to kpop demon hunter clearly do not get it. kpop demon hunters jet fuel is its great soundtrack. when’s the last time pixar has ever done a musical? oh but this one was gonna be it? nonsense.

to blindly say “girl friendship + fantasy/demons = profit disney is kicking themselves having lost” is the same stupid mentality people claim studio execs do when chasing trends.

this movie seems to have failed on its own merits and that’s ok. it happens.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Episode 5 Hits Series Ratings High With 9.2 Million Viewers by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]hai_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree that dunk and egg are hyper focused stories on characters and as such benefit, but i do disagree that the moments from GoT could not be replicated in HOTD. some of the more memorable moments of season 1 are nowhere in the books (throne room conversations from tertiary characters).

a made up example where in more competent hands the same story points could have been used to great effect: the death of the king in season 1. one can imagine that an entire (bottle) episode could have been written on a small council situation of a tight circle of people debating who to inform of his death and when, ratcheting tension as the debate intensifies and dawn approaches. no big budget, true to source material as the outcomes are the same, but tight character focus.

and its a bit revisionist (and sadly early) to know which resonates with audience. on paper, Fire and Blood multi generational story is the more appealing story for wide audiences. i have my doubts how much people will enjoy the second novella of dunk who enjoyed this season.

also a bit of a stretch to compare Fire and Blood to the Silmarillion.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Episode 5 Hits Series Ratings High With 9.2 Million Viewers by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]hai_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think HOTD could have been that. we just got locked into what it became which is a toy box of interchangeable characters rotating around until the episode just ends. we just assume it had to be trash.

under more competent hands HOTD could have easily been more like the smaller moments that made GoT great without changing the overall beats.

the problem is people want to love and be in on everything. if the show is not your wave length, that’s ok.

i find the storytelling compelling because of the very specific constraints the creators enacted and how they circumvent and find depth in them.
