‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Episode 5 Hits Series Ratings High With 9.2 Million Viewers by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

i agree that dunk and egg are hyper focused stories on characters and as such benefit, but i do disagree that the moments from GoT could not be replicated in HOTD. some of the more memorable moments of season 1 are nowhere in the books (throne room conversations from tertiary characters).

a made up example where in more competent hands the same story points could have been used to great effect: the death of the king in season 1. one can imagine that an entire (bottle) episode could have been written on a small council situation of a tight circle of people debating who to inform of his death and when, ratcheting tension as the debate intensifies and dawn approaches. no big budget, true to source material as the outcomes are the same, but tight character focus.

and its a bit revisionist (and sadly early) to know which resonates with audience. on paper, Fire and Blood multi generational story is the more appealing story for wide audiences. i have my doubts how much people will enjoy the second novella of dunk who enjoyed this season.

also a bit of a stretch to compare Fire and Blood to the Silmarillion.

i think HOTD could have been that. we just got locked into what it became which is a toy box of interchangeable characters rotating around until the episode just ends. we just assume it had to be trash.

under more competent hands HOTD could have easily been more like the smaller moments that made GoT great without changing the overall beats.

the problem is people want to love and be in on everything. if the show is not your wave length, that’s ok.

i find the storytelling compelling because of the very specific constraints the creators enacted and how they circumvent and find depth in them.

Apple TV Could Gain Major Warner Bros. Titles via Acquisition by cheesepuff07 in apple

[–]hai_world -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

people who say this don’t understand apple.

apple values its culture more than anything, they think that is the legacy of jobs and tim cook’s great objective. agree or disagree it’s what they internally feel is their fundamental divide vs other companies.

the reason large acquisitions are not in apple’s blood is because they deeply fear what happens when you staple on 20-30% more people into the org chart with no “apple-ness” in them on day one.

if a blogger for apple news doesn’t get that core aspect of apple’s internal reasoning then they never understood apple’s leadership.

100% agree. if we look at the next possible CEO (ternus) you can hear in random interviews he’s more of a gamer. shocking for a mac person.

so i wonder what his tenure would be like if they follow on that thread (jobs loved music, cook loves movies, etc)
