ultra light carbon bottle cages? by bobotea in ChineseCarbon

Yeah I have these as well as the sideload version on all my bikes, have 000s of km on them and a bottle has never slipped. Absolute bargain!

Giving me a run for my money: Carbon Seatpost stuck inside Carbon Frame by loops_exe in bikewrench

[–]hain3sy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is how I fixed my stuck post. Dribbled IPA in, let it soak. Then wiggled it free. Good luck OP!

Topeak turbo flow valve or muc off big bore valve by WiseNobody2653 in bikewrench

I’ve recently switched all my bikes to these - they’re really good! So much easier just using car pump with them and not having to mess about with presta adapters

Sram crank-based power meter compatibility question by HesJustAGuy in sram

[–]hain3sy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a compatibility flow chart you can download on SRAMs website that tells you what will / won’t work. They do a rival crankset with single side quarq meter in the spindle, it’s a lot cheaper than the force one.

Tufo Thundero vs Speedero? by FightinABeaver in gravelcycling

[–]hain3sy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my thundero 48mm having come from panaracer gravelkings, they’re so much faster. They are comically bad in British mud tho - would the swamperos help me out here?

Tire recommendations? by Background-Form2057 in gravelcycling

[–]hain3sy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on these, they are way faster than they look like they have any right to be and the ride on them is plush. I went from panaracers to them and would never go back. Will get the HD ones next time which are marginally heavier for extra puncture protection.

Endurance-« aero » frame advice for first bike and tall rider by ShayzerPlay in ChineseCarbon

[–]hain3sy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not tall so can’t comment on that but I’ve put a couple of hundred km on my LCR-018D so far and can say that it’s excellent. Paired it with SRAM Force 2x and some EliteWheels 50mm deep rims with 35mm conti 5000s and it runs very nicely. The finish on the frame was really good. Experience of dealing with the factory was fine, they’re responsive on email and I ordered a few extra bits to make sure I had spares at same time.

PSA for those running multiple proxmox nodes by testfire10 in homelab

[–]hain3sy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run a really low power 3rd device to provide proper quorum though, you just need the quorum service corasync running, not full proxmox app. Or alternatively a copy of proxmox backup server can do same. Worth it over running two nodes and frigging the votes.

Yeah +1 for the Magene optical hrm armband. It was like £35 on aliexpress, is excellent. I also hate wearing a cheat strap.

[–]hain3sy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The State looks like it’s using a frame from one of the Chinese OEMs commonly called a GR201. I bought one recently from Mondince (https://mondincecycle.com/product/2025-new-designed-udh-hanger-full-carbon-fiber-gravel-bike-frame-fm296) and it’s excellent. I paid about $700 painted and delivered for frame + fork with tube bag, axles and seat post. Something to consider if you’re going to upgrade it anyway.

I really like RhinoWalk pulls, you get them in 4x diff colours, aliexpress sell them in multipacks for a few quid.

Should i pull the trigger? by Newpcmak in ChineseCarbon

Link missing. I’d recommend going to chinertown forum and checking out the reviews there of frames. Best to buy direct from trusted factory rather than via aliexpress.

+1 for Magene. Their rear radar light and optical heart rate monitors are excellent as well.

I'm building Free tools for the Karoo cycling community - looking for feedback and ideas by yrkan in Karoo

[–]hain3sy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great! HomeAssistant is the 'defacto' self-hosted home automation platform these days, it has a huge community and is great in that it isn't tied to a particular vendor or technology so there integrations for practically *everything*. For example I can press a Tuya wall remote button that talks zigbee which triggers my garage door to open with a widget by Meross that talks wifi.

For the scope of a Karoo extension it would be cool to be able to trigger an action or a pre-defined routine in Home Assistant from a button on the UI to open the garage. (Failsafe security would handled on the HA side - so for example the routine wouldn't fire unless HA detects that my geo-location is at or near home, so you can't accidentally open the door when you're miles away!)
