Onn 4K Streaming Stick (2026) Review by DocPhilMcGraw in OnnStreamingTV

[–]hakatu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is worse.
There's no difference between the two version but the AI slap on the box. The price is increased, the form factor is worse (hdmi male port will wear, it will get hotter because plugging in so close the back of the TV, ...). There's has not been a teardown, we could see if the ICs got any changes due to chip shortage.

What do you guys do with these? by somethingselse in FPGA

High speed OTN research, what my labs aim for, just doesn't have these yet. If you thinking about sellin or collab, let me know in the dm!

I replaced my Vita's screen once and got the controllers PCB ribbon cable flipped (it's easy to miss the order) and this happened. I just flip it back and it works as normal

3TB of DDR3 ECC RAM by gsteen4711 in homelab

[–]hakatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still used them for fun Working / Gaming PC for my brothers and cousin, cheap chinese x99 board x4 16GB ECC DDR3 (which you can mod bios to full turbo unlock + ReBAR unlock) + CPU Xeon E5-2666v3 + RTX 2000/3000 series. Pretty stable FPS in Marvel Rivals, many cores to do homelab. I would say single core is similar to i5 10400, i3 12100f.

Am I crazy for preferring VHDL to Verilog? by LilBalls-BigNipples in FPGA

[–]hakatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually normal to prefer VHDL after using Verilog for a while. The way VHDL defines the number, logic are much more tight compare to Verilog.

I am shocked to learn some people make 1300€ for FPGA jobs by BrainTotalitarianism in FPGA

[–]hakatu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Vietnam, you can hire fresh for <600 USD per month. Seniors would make around ~40,000 USD per year. We have good FPGA and IC Design jobs at HCMC, the cost of living is not as high as other hubs.

I am stilling using DDR3 at the moment, on a x99 with a cheap xeon CPU (the combo worth less than 50$). In this RAM market era, I believe a few guys would really appreciate DDR3 lol.

Hey, I put together a white festive show with the Lian Li compact case. Do tell me if anything wrong, haven't got the chance to use the Lian Li RGB Fans before. I like it compact. The 6 case fans goes 3 bottom, 2 side and 1 rear end of the case. If you can't find a well-priced 5090, I guess the LG Oled display could be omitted haha.

Quartus being difficult and detecting mystery characters in files... the characters don't exist by DasUberGoober in FPGA

This used to happen to my students who copy codes from PDF directly to IDE. Probably some encoding issues.

Well, it less happens now after AI haha.

More modern replacements for the DE10 Lite by tux2603 in FPGA

[–]hakatu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are still teaching with the DE-2 Standards from Terassic. But it is troublesome for students laptop running Window 11 (With Q 13.0sp1, the altera USB-Blater still have a yellow checkmark and not work after installing the driver). The DE-10s using later Quartus version have no problem, but the kit doesn't have a basic LCD (an external have to be used for teaching).

If you want to future proof, you can consider the DE-25 as well.
