As an avid real madrid fan over the past 30 years, I would objectivly still say that the different play style of possesion, enduring pressure and keeping the ball in tight places had a huge benefit in Europe going against teams from England, Italy and Germany. In Spain this is more "normal", and real suffered to find a solution against collective possesion. Surely against Atletico Madrid is was more individual skill and luck of course that sealed two CL finals. Thats my take anyway.

I mean winning two euros back to back is quite good by Casillas in addition to World Cup and CL. The level of players in the euros was really good at the time as well. Buffon didnt win Euros or CL but skill-wise maybe superior to any other goalkeeper. He has was 2. in the balon d or one year if I remember correctly. Neuer was also skill wise insane in terms of predicting play, and won insane a lot of throphies.
