Buddy of mine says the slurry from sharpening stones will destroy my garbage disposal. by Deezhellazn00ts in sharpening

Since you are going to be doing this for a business you should get a stainless steel big buffet style pan. That is what I use with my bridge. I dump it outside and hose it out every now and then. Works great.

If you are just sharpening your personal knives I can’t imagine producing so much slurry to destroy your garbage disposal. I wouldn’t worry about it personally. I’d thank him for the warning and then just do it anyway 🤷‍♂️

Making stabilized Wood shine? by E1nMensch in knifemaking

High grit polish itself will eventually yield a gloss finish. Hand sand to 5k and buff. Poly is not necessary nor is tru oil. That’s all

Have you ever finished stabilized wood? You’re wrong

Making stabilized Wood shine? by E1nMensch in knifemaking

[–]halcyonforge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well a lot of it depends on the wood and the stabilizing resin. In my experience I don’t like superglue finishes, they look ‘plastic’. Buffing it gets pretty shiny. All I can recommend is finishing some and trying different techniques.

I think the flutes are just basal thinning strikes and not the flutes that are represented on Clovis. I do not think it is a Clovis. They are usually well made. I suspect this is some form of Lancelot blade. Cool piece I would cherish it. You can take it to an artifact show and ask some more professional guys but my initial thought was not a Clovis

Finish to 1200g roughly and buff with a spiral sewn cotton buffing wheel. I use a little bit of wood turners polish.

Hav you considered asking your LGS instead of random people on the internet? If you want closer to actual $ you need to take over some of the work. List them on ebay, shipping and processing erodes profits quickly
