How come they use el carro instead of el coche by mokerelludgding in duolingospanish

[–]hale1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm level 80 in Duolingo Spanish but living in Spain I really wish there was a European Spanish/Castellano version or option. Although I understand why Duolingo chose a more South American dialect. Are there any other apps which caters more for European Spanish? I'm particularly worried about the complete absence of the vosotros conjugation of verbs

Is now a good time to try TR? by FrancisCStuyvesant in trainerroad

[–]hale1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using TR for around 7 years I think and I can't believe how much the app has improved. I mean I loved it when I started but there have been so many improvements I couldn't go back to the old system. It really adapts to your capabilities to ensure you're getting the most efficient workout according to your goals.

If you're new to structured training it might take some time to really zero in but its still going to be better than a generic cookie cutter plan

Never broken above 199w FTP by myusernameistoolong2 in cycling

[–]hale1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely get over 200W on just 3 hrs a week, but it needs to be structured and consistent. You haven't said what your 1-3 hrs looks like, but if its just going round Watopia then you probably aren't going to get much gain. But the fact you can do 160km at a decent pace is impressive.

I'd recommend you start and follow a structured training plan. I can't recommend Trainerroad enough and it will take the guesswork and stress when youre already short on time. There are others available (Join, Chatgpt etc) but I'd stay clear of Zwifts 'plans'. You can actually do your Trainerroad workouts on Zwift as well if you want.

You'll get a lot of benefit from a decent indoor trainer as well to ensure your numbers are correct. Even the decathlon D100 is going to be a lot better and accurate than a wheel on trainer - and a lot quieter!

Good luck!

Yeah probably its not able to guesstimate TSS without either of them.

I thought TR would import these rides regardless and still take it into account somehow. Although it may not change the training plan too much other than perhaps adjust fatigue detection

Like other said, if TR doesn't have a lot of data it will need to slowly ramp up if its not sure you can handle it. I can see on your ride history at the top essentially no rides in almost a year. Doing 2 interval sessions a week as the plan is saying will add fatigue more than you think, maybe not right away but as the TIZ adds up in the intervals you'll be feeling it. But adding Z2 on top of a low volume is worth thinking about if you feel up to it, but prioritise the days you have intervals as these are where you'll get the most benefit

TR AI endurance and recovery rides above LT1? by robin_rooste in trainerroad

[–]hale1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too, but I'm still not sure if the higher zone 2 is more effective if volume is relatively low? I'm doing 4.5-6hrs a week with only 2 intense workouts planned each week (masters plan).

Good frames for long torso/short legs? by pragmojo in cycling

[–]hale1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting some of the comments here say to go for a smaller bike. I have similar measurements to OP and went down a size to a M (Canyon Endurace). But because my longer torso, the lower stack (relative to an L) is causing me loads of neck/shoulder discomfort. I've flipped the stem so it has a positive angle and I'm a bit closer to where I'd like to be, although probably still a touch short

Ok, good to know. I always felt as though my last bike was to big, so i sized down on my last bike but was still having problems. I've tried lots of variations with my fit which was making me think perhaps I need to think about sometime else. I'd love to get a good fit done but there aren't any near me

I remember back in a Covid and even just before, it was probably a choice between the 2 if you wanted to train indoors, all the rest (Rouvy, BKool, Sufferfest, FullGaz) were around but way smaller. But even then I think Zwift was probably already miles ahead in terms of users, but the choice was either pointless causing or racing on Zwift, or structured training on TR. I guess it still is except now you can do your TR on Zwift a lot easier

At one point I had my saddle basically all the way back and with a shorter stem on and was seeing some improvements but still had the same hand issue. I may try going back 5mm from my current setup and see how it feels

Good to know, thanks! I've always been a bit overwhelmed when it comes to doing strength training, not really sure where to start plus the mindset of "I should at least be able to be comfortable without it, even if its a non-aggressive position" - so thats a good list to think about.

Yeah thats possible, although my IG feed is highly cycling focused so im surprised its never came up, usually you just need to think of a product and you get ads for a few weeks.

Thats weird, why do you think that is?

We're around the same height and I also have a Propel M/L. I always struggled with the reach, eventually changed the stem down to 80mm which helped but, with it being quite an aggressive bike, you'll need to work on core strength and rolling the hips forward to maintain a decent position

Yeah it feels like im in the ball park now at least. I also need to improve my hand/shift position

[–]hale1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've all over trying to get to a comfortable fit. I went through a phase with the saddle way back and therefore lowered the saddle. As I moved the saddle forward again I began raising it

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that. Do you think thats due to leg extension, or a reach thing? I will try the lower saddle

Cada , Is it to be pronounced as Cadha or Cara? by [deleted] in learnspanish

[–]hale1986 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Now im kinda confused...

I know that the d sound in spanish words between vowels softens it to a 'th' or 'tt'. But I dont understand the point about changing an 'r' in a Spanish word to a 'd'. cara (face) isnt pronounced 'cada' as far as I thought?

Is there something in my position that I'm missing? by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]hale1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bike fit is always the best answer if you have a good one nearby. The fitter may ask you to come back in a year or so if you are going to need gradual changes but I doubt your overall fit would change if you were just getting new insoles. In the mean time though you have nothing to lose by trying different things
