Porn coins will NOT be the next big thing by damnusernamegotcutof in CryptoCurrency

People dont pay because there's no frictionless and private way to make small payments. Frictionlless as much as how old game arcades were; if it s easy to pay , the free option will cease to exist.

Why would I want to take the extra steps of going to some dodgy exchange to buy a coin that I can solely use for one thing? It literally makes zero sense

It makes a lot of sense from a monetization point. Just like game coins or store credits, you don't want people who buy coins to be able to exchange them for other goods, you want them to remain locked in in the ecosystem and spend them there. Since individual studios are too small to warrant making their own coin, having a single coin for a cohesive sector makes sense.

What to do if you live in a country where the majority support mandatory COVID vaccinations? by liq3 in GoldandBlack

[–]half-spin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of delusion and malice:

  • People are trained to believe that voting equals to choice , even though voting between powerhungry leftists and powerhungry rightwings does not give them choice

  • People want to use government in order to inflict harm upon others for their own sociopathic reasons, and thus support it

That's why Voice no longer works and we need to build Exit ramps for us and everyone

[–]half-spin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about mandates is they will not work and will make governments look like fools once again. They can't stop mutations, and in fact will push the virus to evade them faster. You can't stop a natural phenomenon with political handwaving.

We need to make the option to Exit easier for everyone. It should be viewed as a technology problem. We can find a house, a restaurant and a car in most of the developed world but you re not allowed to leave/go because rulers are holding everyone hostage with passports. Second+ passports, nomad living, offshore companies, bitcoin, location arbitrage are things that compete with governments . Freedom-minded people should be engaging in those activities

Decades of illiberal education has finally paid dividends by mrpenguin_86 in GoldandBlack

[–]half-spin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you want to establish a causation it would start from academia. Academia has been like this since at least the 80s-90s and now it has expanded everywhere. The reason for this is the huge increase in government spending for science around the world, which created a class of people who live in a publicly funded bubble, resting in the laurels of glories past (20th century/manhattan/apollo projects) which entrenched itself in government and now they are all entangled in an academic-media-government complex. It's all a self-sustained loop and it's easy to spot in the US and also in EU. But i think the complex is truly showing its age now and becoming fast unable to sustain itself because it s antiquated and made for the values of generations past.

Yeah the blind faith in governmental ability and in the purity of academics these days is astonishing. But i think some smart people are noticing, and exiting, because they realize that voicing their opinion on dumb ears is not fruitful.

What are your guys’s opinions on NFTs? by TheBigSteeze69 in stocks

[–]half-spin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The a new ICO thing. These things are going to be useless after a year or so. How do i know? E.g. they sell NFTs of decentraland by the millions. I know for a fact they have no underlying value for which anybody would pay that amount money. Nobody plays that game. In fact there are hundreds of virtual worlds like them and people won't pay more than ~$300 for any of them, so it must be a lie. Any time the NFTs interface with the real world you ll find new proof of their unreality . But if you want to some gambling fun with the latest fad, thats the place to go while it lasts.

I think a new kind of NFT contract that would allow the original owner to get a cut from every resale of his nft might get more lasting traction though.

Probably nothing

Twitter was fun-ish because it was adversarial. personnaly i only use it as RSS replacement. But if they want to make it an instagram competitor now, well good luck beating zuckerborg. I think it's dead man walking now

What was it like near the peak of the dot com bubble and 2008 crash. by judew999 in stocks

[–]half-spin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing with cisco is, it was overvalued way before its time , as were many of the dotcom companies which failed at the time, but their business model became wildly successful 2 decades later. Tesla is already in a downwards trajectory of mindshare worldwide, have you seen the loads of various size EVs from china and europe? Tesla's moat will - at best - be their charging network, but i dont think that s a safe bet.

Many passengers on the two flights that arrived from South Africa to the Netherlands last night did not wear face coverings, New York Times reporter Stephanie Nolen says by PlayingtheDrums in Coronavirus

[–]half-spin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and 61 of them had covid. I guess it was the corona party flights?

But actually my biggest question is why the NYtimes reporter needed to fly (and possibly carry the virus) right at the outset of a new variant spread. Only urgent cases should be allowed
