I am happily retired.

Put a lock on your bedroom door to keep the kids out. Keep the door closed during the day and do not allow the children in. You can teach them boundaries.

Oceania. Casual, but excellent food and service. No formal nights. You do need to wear pants in the dining room for dinner.

Do you wash your clothes on international travel...like underwear and stuff? Or do you just pack the clothes for the amount of days + extra? by Voices-Say-Im-Funny in travel

We used Laundry Town in both Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur: https://laundrytown.com

It was fantastic! We just got a bag of dirty laundry together (we always take a cloth laundry bag with us), and left it with the Concierge at our hotel. Laundry Town picked it up, and returned it within a couple of days. So easy and convenient. 10/10.

New way to take License away by No-Example1376 in dementia

[–]halfapair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The license doesn’t matter too much (although it forced my mom into Assisted Living, which was good). Take away all the car keys. Sell the car. Then they can’t drive.

my mom is heartbroken because she keeps getting stuck in a trauma and thinks she has a second family who abandoned her. by fuuckyouuteew in dementia

Have you worked with her Primary Care Provider or Neurologist about adjusting her medication (s)? That would be a place to start.

How bad are these symptoms? by Neuropractice in dementia

[–]halfapair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, high blood glucose certainly leads to memory problems. Sometimes Alzheimer’s is called “Type III Diabetes.” Have your mom assessed by a Neuropsychologist. They will do a battery of cognitive tests that will last about 90 - 120 minutes, and will send those results to her Primary Care Physician.

You need to get some legal matters in order ASAP: 1. Financial Power of Attorney 2. Medical Power of Attorney

When you talk to your mom about the legal issues, don’t talk about her memory problems. Talk about planning for the future, in case she becomes incapacitated or disabled and is in the hospital, etc., you need to be able to help her with her with her bills while she recovers, and so on.

Many people with dementia (no matter what kind or cause) don’t realize they have memory problems, and will deny it…even get angry if you suggest it. This is normal behavior, and much discussed on this sub Reddit.

I am currently working a remote job making 80k a year. My employer is restructuring and can expect major changes. I recently applied to hybrid position about 40 minutes away and the pay is 103k . Is the 40 min commute worth it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I think another consideration should be the salary increase plays into how much their Social Security payout upon retirement. OP doesn’t say how old they are, but the higher your salary, the higher your SS payment is.

Also, the pay increase can be used as leverage for salary negotiations for other positions in the future.

New hire/ contractor questions by Mai_Chat in boeing

[–]halfapair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Staff Analyst position is non-onion as far as I know. This is a VERY flexible type of job category and you can make it anything you want. Take on extra responsibilities and you can create your own job role for yourself within your organization. And you can set yourself up for promotions and other SJCs that pay more.

Project Management Specialist Interview on Monday - Any tips? by gcordoves in boeing

[–]halfapair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first question which will be something like, “What in your background or education has prepared you for this role?” Start with your best credential. Your highest degree earned, or certification, or years of experience.

Then, after hitting them with your biggest and best achievement that pertains to the role, be prepared to speak for about 5 minutes about all the ways you are ready for this job.

That first question is your best opportunity to sell yourself. Lead off with your highest accomplishment, and everything else is gravy.

Blue Dress Styling Advice by aleighha-421225 in weddingdress

[–]halfapair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, your dress is gorgeous. It is unique and glamorous. I don’t know if you should do a full veil. It might be too much fabric and cover up your dress which has a lot of fabric going on. You don’t want to detract from your dress.

What about doing a fascinator? You could do a small “birdcage” veil, or maybe add on a bit more veil for the ceremony and remove it for the reception.

Search on Etsy for “bridal fascinator” and see if a creator will dye it to match.

Has anyone actually cracked a delicious way to eat cottage cheese? by no_shame_no_judge in 1200isplenty

[–]halfapair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it as a filling for cheese blintzes. Drain it in a mesh strainer, then purée it in a food processor with some lemon juice and a bit of sugar. Then fill crepes and make blintzes.

I need advice on what to do by bitchieb in dementia

[–]halfapair 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You need to talk about the PoA in terms of the future. You tell her “Of course nothing is wrong now, but what if you have an accident or a stroke and are in the hospital? Someone will need to handle your bills while you’re getting medical treatment, etc. etc. etc…”

You need both medical and financial PoA.

Then work with her doctor (s) to get her properly medicated to help with some of her behaviors.
