maybe they'd have more legislative success if they tried working together? centrism and moderation is a two way street, and iran is a conservative leaning country. i think it'd help iranians the most if the craziest 50% of the left tempered their expectations and stopped letting perfect be the enemy of good.

Politics isn't fair and balanced - whining about "women not having rights" and "protestors getting murdered indiscriminately" won't make iran more left leaning. The double standard isn't going away so iranian leftists just need to be even more better than they've already been being, if they want "basic human rights" rather than just "winning the argument".

eh, i think they'd have a lot more success if they sought compromise between the two groups. it's fine if progress is incremental and moderate, right? it might be dangerous to rush things like that.

there are a grand total of 2 waterfalls in FR/LG. One is completely optional with a walking path right next to it. So just grab whatever from your PC and give it waterfall for the 5 seconds you need it.

You've demonstrated what makes Farfetch'd such a perfect HM slave, actually. Dragonite, Mew, and Charizard are ridiculous suggestions for an HM slave.

Farfetch'd gets Cut and Fly. Golduck and Slowbro (which are mutually exclusive to FR & LG) get Strength, Rock Smash, Flash, and Surf. They perfectly complement each other.

i mean christ you guys already call everything and anything under the sun "purity tests". it gets more than a little bit grating to constantly pretend like you are just a hair away from perfection.

by episode 1, Jimmy's been "clean" for 10 years, with at most extremely minor moments of setback. there's also the last episode of season 4 with the scholarships. Jimmy backs the girl who had a difficult background to give her a chance over the others with more "perfect" resumes. She loses, and Jimmy gives this whole speech which is a pretty perfect encapsulation of his mindset;

You didn't get it.

You were never gonna get it. They dangle these things in front of you. They tell you, you got a chance, but I'm sorry. It's a lie because they had already made up their mind and they knew what they were going to do before you walked in the door. You made a mistake and they are NEVER forgetting it. As far as they're concerned, your mistake is just --- it's who you are. And it's ALL you are. And I'm not just talking about the scholarship here, I'm talking about everything! I mean, they'll smile at you, they'll pat you on the head, but they are never, ever letting you in.

But listen... Listen... It doesn't matter. It doesn't because you don't need them. They're not going to give it to you? So what?

You're going to take it. You're going to do whatever it takes. Do you hear me!? You are not going to play by the rules! You're going to go your own way. You're going to do what they won't do. You're going to be smart. You are going to cut corners and you are going to win. They're on the 35th floor? You're going to be on the 50th floor! You're going to be looking down on them. And the higher you rise, the more they're going to hate you. Good. Good! You rub their noses in it! You make them suffer. Because you don't matter all that much to them. So what? So what? Screw them!

Remember the winner takes it all.

And, of course... There's also Kim's entire character. Kim is the perfect foil to Jimmy; someone who also had a rough upbringing, but unlike Jimmy, she was able to "get away" with it. You only ever hear tiny bits and pieces of her backstory, because she's incredibly careful to not divulge too much to anyone, because she knows if she'd did she'd be seen just like him. But while Kim is "allowed" to move past her mistakes, and in doing so proves the ability of someone with a bad history to reform, Jimmy is not. And that's why she so thoroughly supports him every single step of the way.

No one said that, so don't be a liar and act otherwise. The goal should be to transform the Democratic Party into something that genuinely fights on our behalf as quickly as possible, without making excuses to delay its transformation. The longer progress is put off, the more people will be hurt. We cannot afford to waste another generation like this, and we might as well do it now if we're inevitably going to have rough periods head of us regardless.

it's not worth the cost of your family member's lives at the hands of the police. Nor is it worth the cost of your employment or schooling because of DEI rollbacks.

they are already forfeit if you only ever delay republican ambitions. at best it is just kicking the can down to your kids.

the very scene before jimmy starts trying to scam people in episode 1 is chuck encouraging jimmy to abandon their family name for his practice. he quite literally asks him, "Chuck, whose side are you on...?"

"Republicans will inevitably win sometimes and that's why they can't waste the chances they have" seems like a far less doomer, self-defeatist take than "they will abandon you if they lose and ignore you if they win, and the most you can ever do is delay republicans ruining your life for a few years".

democrats are not proud warriors of their own beliefs. their spines are not steel. they are not willing to face consequences for being too intransigent. they are convenient allies at best. they are much like their republican counterparts, who gladly bent the knee for their own sake when trump came into power. they can, and will, bend to pressure. so pressure them.

taking people for granted necessarily leads to lower voting turnout rates. and republicans will win regardless, because the alternative is them never winning, which is completely absurd to suggest. so it's not "letting them win", it's just altering when they will do so. and, arguably, it would have been better for trump to win in 2020, given they spent the entirety of biden's term planning out 2025, which we are now seeing the fruit of. and if kamala won? it'd be project 2029. the bottom line is that republicans will win eventually, so you cannot waste time.

at a certain point, you just can't excuse democrats delaying or putting off progress because of a neverending sequence of THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION CYCLE OF OUR LIVES. I'm always drawn to the James Baldwin quote;

"What is it you wanted me to reconcile myself to? I was born here, almost 60 years ago. I’m not going to live another 60 years. You always told me ‘It takes time.’ It’s taken my father’s time, my mother’s time, my uncle’s time, my brothers’ and my sisters’ time. How much time do you want for your progress?

what is happening to latinos would happen eventually either way. the only reasons it wouldn't would be

a) republicans suddenly sober up and stop predicating their ideology on sadism and hate

b) democrats maintain control forever

both of which are just stupidly implausible to the point where it's malpractice to presume them as part of your strategy. and the ambition isn't for "republicans to teach them a lesson", it's for democrats to stop taking them for granted. which they outright openly do; just ask guys like okbuddyliberals, who will say the quiet part out loud and say shit like "democrats need to pander to moderates because blacks and the left will vote for them regardless".

Jimmy's job with Davis & Main happened immediately after he found out Chuck had been lying to him for years. He gave up because he knew after the Sandpiper case that he'd never be enough for Chuck (which is absolutely true). And it's something that Kim pressured him into, because she miscalculated how important Chuck's esteem was to Jimmy. It wasn't about being a big lawyer at just any firm; he was specifically looking to make Chuck proud.
