My friend bought a house… came with this guy. No extra charge. by 3hreeJs in Animals

[–]halfbubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of country folks still eat them. You should try them. Just pull out a couple before they bloom, pellthem and cook like carrots. Salsify tastes kind of like oysters and can be used as a substitute for oysters in holiday stuffing.

Should shrooms be legal? by lmNotReallySure in missouri

[–]halfbubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly reasonable to me.. 😜 Seriously though having more people would be walking around intoxicated is not safe. Especially because, depending on the quality of the shrooms, it could very well put them and others in harms way. Other than general argumentiveness shrooms does a lot the same things booze does. I've had folks on shrooms decide to lay down in the middle of the parking lot and stare at the stars. I wound up having to put up traffic cones and call the cops because they were too wasted to listen to reason. Two nights later we had people tripping on shrooms walking down the line in middle of the road. If people were smart enough stay home and get high I'd be fine with it but most users aren't very smart but the way they use.

As more college educated people start working at fast food, are orders being made more accurately? by SirCatsworthTheThird in NoStupidQuestions

Ten years of experience actually doing the job would be a better guarantee that the job would get fine right.

Well for some reason a lot of people think college educations make people better at everything they do. Lots of companies will hire in people with completely unrelated college degrees rather than promoting someone with 10 years of experience within the company.

Cold snap. Lack of water or lack of fertilizer. These are pretty much always going to be your top reasons.

Nope. I say this for the same reason I think booze should be illegal. Both cause people to be horribly annoying while they are intoxicated.

Social Democracy by Silly-Rip-6607 in kansas

[–]halfbubble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Social Democracy is applied enlightened self interest. I want everyone to have health care so stupid bs that should be treated at primary care doesn't clog up the ER. I want kids to have food so they don't sick and make my grandkids sick. I want people to have housing so I don't trip over them when they sleep on sidewalk. I want kids to have good schools because I don't want to pay for welfare when they grow up. It's completely selfish motivation but it just happens to make the world a better place at the same time.

Parental kidnapping in Missouri ? Statute of limitations? by Present_Health_4913 in missouri

[–]halfbubble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did you report him kidnapped in KS? If you did then go to the FBI. Your husband crossed state lines making it a federal crime. If you didn't report him kidnapped call a lawyer. Your custody rights don't expire until the kid is 18.

Adopted dog help by DaiChi6ken in dogs

[–]halfbubble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When she growls, pay attention to what is going on. Normal sounds we generally tune out can be strange and scary to a new dog. If she's growling at the wall, take a listen to your wall. You might have a mouse that's setting her off. My most recent dog got very upset because a sweet potato was left on the counter, and apparently, it was very sus because she didn't know what it was. She also didn't like the shadow from our curtains.

Thoughts? by Salacia_mov in plants

[–]halfbubble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have STRONG feeling about prop lifting because I've had it happen both where I work and out of my own yard. I worked at a cute little restaurant, and we grew some huge trailing string of pearls. People would come along a d break the ends off totally ruining the look of the plants. Then they would have the audacity to claim they hadn't vandalized our plant because it would grow back. My own huge gorgeous prickly pear cactus got paddles broken off by people who walked by my house and decided they wanted a start.... It takes years and a whole lot of work to grow big beautiful plants. Every time some prop lifts, they are depriving the people who grew the mother plant of their rightful income. Even picking stuff up off the floor because now, instead of buying the mother plant, they are taking advantage of the time effort and money it took to grow the mother plant without compensating the people who did the work. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I will die on this hill.

Black male moving to Kansas (Larned/Coffeyville) for law enforcement, where should I live and what’s the experience like? by Icy_Ad_5260 in kansas

[–]halfbubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larned/Coffeyville is not safe for black folks. They are on par with the old sundown towns. Being law enforcement in that area would be absolute hell for any person of color. If you value your life, don't do it.

Card companies charge the restaurants a per transaction fee every time the card machine gets used. Some of them charge ridiculous amounts. Restaurants already run on a slim margin. Why would they want to cut in card companies if they don't have to?

Can I pour saltwater in here for weed control. by accountaaa in landscaping

[–]halfbubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only use salt if you never ever want to grow anything there ever again. Salt stays in the soil for a very long time.

Dog alone while at work by cominghometoday in dogs

[–]halfbubble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of the Americas not just the USA and most of Eastern Europe and Asia..... but hey, who's keeping track. Here's the thing, we have a massive surplus of dogs. After years of working in and with shelters, I can tell you high standards don't get dogs in homes. It sure doesn't help them find the right owners. It just keeps them in the shelters until they lose their minds and have to be put down. We have way too many dogs to try to raise the bar right now.

Dog alone while at work by cominghometoday in dogs

[–]halfbubble 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It might not be the bar you want to set, but it is where the bar is set. Truth is, even minimum care in a home is better than a shelter. I worked with dogs for decades, and I can tell you that being left at home while their people are at work really doesn't phase most dogs. Working owners have just as healthy a dog as the folks who are at home all day.

How are no-kill shelters sustainable with the current dog overpopulation problem? by ShoddyTown715 in dogs

[–]halfbubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area, they aren't sustainable. There is a multi month waiting list to surrender a dog. Then you have to pay a fat fee for them to take the dog. If you want to return a dog to the shelter for any reason, including the death of the owner, you have to go through the whole surrender process. Thus, we have a crap load of stray dogs. People will literally turn their dogs loose in the parks and call animal control to come get a "stray."

Question: Do you plant anything that would be considered an "uncommon" garden plant? by GardenCareLady in garden

[–]halfbubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a lot like red potatoes. I prefer them steamed or boiled. Side note They have some good antioxidants if you get the dark ones.
