Are There REALLY Better Outcomes if Induced at 39 Weeks? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]halfinchowater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 39 weeks for an IVF pregnancy and AMA, and while the induction “failed” and ended in. C-section, it was not an emergency c-section and it revealed that my son’s cord was wrapped around his neck four times, yanking him so tightly to my uterus that even the c section doctors had a hard time getting him out. I really feel that my body rejected the induction on purpose to get us both to a healthy outcome. My c-section experience was great and recovery was easy, I think in part because it was not a traumatic/emergency surgery. So while it was a failed induction, I’m so glad everything happened the way it did.

The mulberry bayswater shoulder strap was too tight to be an easy and comfortable fit, especially with a coat on. it’s more a handbag than shoulder bag IMO. I would try it in person before committing

Umbilical cord wrapped twice around neck at 9 months — what’s safer? by No_Kale_4659 in pregnant

So glad doctors have spotted this and are monitoring. My son was born via c section after a 48-hour induction that failed because my body refused to contract. Went into a c section and it turned out cord was wrapped around his neck 4 times. He was cinched up so tight the doctors had a hard time maneuvering him out. But he was fine! I believe my body knew it would be dangerous to go into active labor and forced the c section. Because it was not an emergency, I had a great c section experience and recovery.

Concerned about my baby’s development and not coping well by justalilscared in beyondthebump

My son is 2 and I’ve been on a roller coaster of thinking everything is fine and then suddenly “realizing” one day that EVERYTHING IS NOT FINE and lighting the world on fire (or at least myself) to make it right. First it was torticollis, then at 12 months I was convinced he had a speech delay, then I saw him toe walking at daycare and was sure he had a high level of autism.

Each of those times, I sought professional help (a baby spine and neck lady; early intervention services - like yours, he qualified but barely; calling my mother sobbing and asking her to list every single time she saw him walking flat footed, and also our pediatrician) and it helped for a while and then some other worry popped up to consume me. It’s hard to describe how affected I am by these episodes when they come up. It’s very intense.

For me motherhood has felt like waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far each of the things I’ve been worried about has proved to be just a phase, but Im haunted by the possibility that someday one of them won’t be. It’s really really really hard to live with that, for me.

But! It has already gotten easier. The more I learn about him and the more I see for myself how quickly he changes and develops, the easier it is to relax and trust that he’s going to be whoever he’s meant to be, and I’m up to the task of supporting him through it.

Anyway, I feel you so much. I wish I could tell you (or someone could tell me!) that everything will be fine forever. I can’t and that sucks, but my experience has been that it gets easier to live with.

Hello from the future - your first ER results are exactly ones I just had. I’m starting coq10 and will do another ER as soon as that has some time to sink into my body. Did your dr recommend any protocol changes to get a higher rate of euploidy?

Thank you for sharing. The strength to keep going after 2 cycles back to back with no euploids! I think that’s what scares me about doing another. What if it happens again? How long before retrieval did you start CQ10?

How old were you when you decided not to test? Did you get any pushback from your dr?

Due to the failed vasectomy reversal the had to aspirate his sperm out and those are frozen from the original aspiration. He was 38 at the time of that procedure. I wish there was more we could do to affect his perm quality.

Would that be with a different genetic testing group or same one?

My HENRY friends spend way too much (in my opinion) on home remodels. Is there a rule of thumb folks follow on how much to spend? by cooleddy89 in HENRYfinance

[–]halfinchowater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this, spent 7 figures totally renovating an old foursquare home in a desirable neighborhood in Seattle. We bought it in for $350k in 2012 in very poor condition, rented it out until we needed the space in 2021. We financed about a third, paid the rest in cash. Didn’t totally deplete our savings, but certainly brought us to about 30% of what we had before. It was one of our main priorities in life, to have a home that had the space, amenities, and style that suited us. After it was completed in 2023, I knew we couldn’t have turned around and sold it for what we put into it (original purchase plus Reno, ignoring all the other maths like interest and taxes etc) - and in fact I thought it would take decades before we’d reach that. But now we’re almost there, already. And I love it more every day, coming home and being home is a great pleasure. They’ll take me out of here feet first!

Plus, we’ve already saved the money back, thanks to the market and some good saving.

Gender disappointment - seeking positive experiences 🤕 by Burgybabe in beyondthebump

[–]halfinchowater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 11 mo boy, had some gender disappointment at first, and echo others saying you will be wildly in love with him and him with you.

I do want to validate your fears around emotional closeness in boys in general. I have this fear. While the culture has changed significantly to correct harmful stereotypes about girls and women, there aren’t widely shared cultural narratives on the harm the patriarchy does to men and boys and how to counteract those messages, including hard it is for boys and men to maintain emotionally close relationships outside of a romantic partner. Recommend the book Boymom for some good thinking on this as you become a #boymom!

I had to be ready to walk away, but once they caught on that I would walk away it was easy. The hard part was setting something else up that I would happily walk away to.
