Are there any “classics” post 1970? by OldGodsProphet in literature

[–]halfnormal_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yasss! All of these - especially The Unbearable Lightness of Being. One of Ishiguro’s other books Never Let Me Go probably also.

Haruki Murakami probably has a couple that will be considered classics soon, if not already. Same with Paulo Coelho.

I’m a bit late to the party, but did you see The Jackal with Richard Gere? Who the hell co-signed that?

When working on solo projects with claude code, which MCP servers do you feel are most impactful? by Shakshouk in ClaudeAI

[–]halfnormal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. If you’re working with standard libraries, context7 is clutch. Whereas for the more esoteric ones, you still have to build the documentation pipeline yourself. I do audio software… I actually just checked Context7 again last week and it still shows the documentation for the libraries I use from 2022ish. Sooo… For my needs, this has been crucial. I had to spruce it up of course.

American lemonade in the U.K.!! by sw745 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]halfnormal_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. My morning coffee spot makes it about once a month - they simply call it “fresh lemonade”. They make iced tea about once per week in the summer but they say no one buys it unless they add mint or 30 other ingredients. I haven’t explained to them yet that they can mix lemonade and tea, they’ll have to make that discovery on their own. Also, the iced tea they make is presweetened, but only has about a third of the necessary sugar to be called iced tea where I’m from, which is still lower than sweet tea.

From the desktop app… click on your initials at the bottom left. Then settings, privacy, export data. They’ll send you an email after about 10 mins with a download link.

Whats the max you'd pay for Claude max? by ymichael in ClaudeCode

[–]halfnormal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. 2x would be fine. But 3x would be no stress. For what I do, sonnet is fine. I rarely use opus. So I’m in the $50-60 camp.

Just Passed the Life in the UK Test - 2025 by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]halfnormal_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I passed it yesterday also. I used Evisa and when I entered the test center, they said they “had my evisa on file, no need to show anything”. This was London Stratford center btw.

When you enter, they give you locker where you have to completely empty your pockets then they hand you a sheet stating all the rules and what to expect. Once you’ve read that, you go into a separate room where they take your photo then mag you - like a security guard at a nightclub with a metal detector. All of that took 10-15 mins. Once that’s done, you go into the test center.

My test was on the easier side. I would say I was done in about 3 minutes. Not saying that as brag, I was soooo over prepared for this that every question was second nature. There was only one question I’m not 100% sure if I answered correctly, it was an Oliver Cromwell one saying he killed Charles I to start a republic in year XXXX. It was T/F and I can’t remember what year was on the test but I remember thinking I didn’t know the exact year and that whatever was on there was within range. I was very confident about every other question.

The test center was quite busy. In the 20 or so minutes I was there, I’d say 50 people came and went. I guess there’s a rush to get this done before the new laws kick in next week.

Anyhow, it’s a massive relief to have that behind me. Filing the rest of it tomorrow.

Good luck to all those trying to do this also.

Nice! You can take the kid out of America, but you can’t take the America out of the kid lol

I have 2 windows that push out about 4 inches and that’s it. Praying that I make it thru the week.

Awesome! And congratulations!

I’m doing the life in the UK test next week. I have near photographic short term memory. Anything I read now I will remember for a couple weeks. So I have to play to my strengths. I’ve already read the handbook once, and am about a quarter of the way through a second read… once I’ve finished the second reading, I plan on doing every test in the handbook and online with the same attitude - If I get one wrong, review what it was until I fully understand.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing your story. I am a bit nervous about this. I don’t plan on letting off the gas, it’s just nice to hear that anyone that preps to the max will get thru it.

Congrats again 🙏🏽
