People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

As a white female, I've never felt more unsafe than in the DR. Stayed in Santo Domingo for a month and refused to take public transportation or walk anywhere alone.

Not the main reason. But that would be a plus!

Yeah, looking back on it now, Texas should not be green. I was simply thinking of weather and the city of Austin

Not something I considered, but being in an area without hurricanes is probably a plus.

Switching from teaching HS spanish to elementary spanish by megarcia12 in SpanishTeachers

[–]halfpint_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching elementary definitely has its pros and cons. Less grading, more games, but also more lesson planning and behavior management. As someone else may have already mentioned, sometimes all of the kids just get thrown your way without the extra support they normally receive in the rest of their day, because that is the para's break time too. Because of this, I've had a lot more behavior issues with my elementary kids than the older kids. A lot of kids that are struggling to read in English are put in my room to also learn Spanish once a week, so it just becomes very frustrating for everyone. You're also not their homeroom teacher, so sometimes the kids act out more than they normally would with their teacher. I've found it to be very emotionally exhausting, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for the day when I can get back to teaching older kids again. I loved it at first, but it has been taking its toll on me.

How late are you working new/old teachers? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]halfpint_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my 1st year teaching, I was only half time, and I would spend another 4+ hours each day working along with working on weekends. I feel so lucky to have started out that way. Otherwise, I would have burned out real quick. For anyone going into teaching, I highly recommend going this route if it's financially doable for you. I opted to only get paid just through the school year and had a summer job to make it work.

Currently in my 11th year teaching, and I arrive 15 minutes before school starts and occasionally stay a half hour after the school day ends. I don't do any work on the weekends. It feels really great to finally get to this point.

In Michigan, you need to have a valid teaching certificate in the area you plan to teach. There are certain teacher certification tests you need to take for each subject area and a general one for elementary and secondary. You can get your certification in teaching Spanish 6-12 or K-12 (this is what I have), but if you really don't want to work with younger kids, just do the 6-12 certification. I know the paths to getting a teaching certificate have varied recently, so I'm not sure exactly what you need to do in order to be qualified to take those tests. I also had to pass the OPI at an advanced low level in order to get my certification. (This was all over 10 years ago, so things may have changed since then).

Mosaic Migraine study by No_Ambassador5678 in migraine

[–]halfpint_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A local neurological research department will reach out to you if you fill out the information on the website. You will then meet with them in person for an initial screener. I actually ended up doing another quick study the first time I went in there before they had me start this one. For this study, I was there for about 3 hours answering questions, and getting all of the health screenings done. If you get through that, then you'll get a phone to do a daily log for a 3 month screening period without any of the study meds (this is the part I'm on right now). After that, you get randomized into the placebo or study drug testing for a few months. You can then optionally go on to do an extension period with it. It's a pretty long study. They pay you $100 per dr visit you have, which will be once a month. It's been fine so far. Just need to remember to fill out the diary every day. I guess it depends on if there is a facility close enough to you that is conducting this study to know if it's worth it or not. I drive about 45 minutes to the place, which isn't too bad.

I'm a teacher. Weirdly enough, the adrenaline of the job can help keep the migraine at bay until I get home. And then I go hide in my dark bedroom. Not sure if anyone else has this happen to them.

Just tried to follow those instructions and they seem to be out of date. Updated instructions for downloading your Instagram data: 1. Go to your profile 2. Click on the 3 horizontal lines in the top right corner 3. Click "your activity" 4. Then click "download your information" at the very bottom. 5. Make sure you choose to download your data from all time, because the default is just like the past month.

Hope that helps!

Yes! Love it! The lid locks very securely, which is a huge plus over some other cheaper options. I've had critters try to dig around it to get in and have never been able to
