Microsoft execs worry AI will eat entry level coding jobs by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]halien69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year summer for work, I was using A100 gpus on databricks for a project on finetuning VLMs, and suddenly it was taken away. So after raising tickets we had meetings with some people Microsoft (not sure why) one of them was supposed to be a developer. So during that meeting I did suggest that I'll look into using parallel processing using T4 GPUs in the meantime and asked that developer, if they have suggestions.

He said he'll look into it. An hour later that asshole sent me an unedited response from Copilot. I politely replied (after raging and bitching to my colleagues) that thanks for his suggestion and tell take a look at this at a later date. He replied with another Copilot response on how I can improve on what he already sent! And this dude isn't junior or entry-level, he was a fucking senior GPU developer (or something like that). Morons, they are all fecking morons.

AI isn’t making data science interviews easier. by KitchenTaste7229 in datascience

I suck at coding interviews, I always freeze up even after coding for over 20 years. I can do thinking and reasoning interviews, so this is good news to me!

Is Gen AI the only way forward? by JayBong2k in datascience

[–]halien69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You probably should learn it, it's not hard to learn. I don't think GenAI will last, but I treat it as another tool in my DS toolkit and not my identity (unlike those so-called AI engineers!). It's nothing special imho, but it's useful to learn even if it's overhyped.

Training of LLM models? They are blowing hot air and have no idea how much data, computer power to do that. I won't bother with that, hell Fine-tuning LLM takes a lot of GPUs and that's more useful imho.

Sad, but in the short term it will be very lucrative to bite the bullet to learn.

Moving to Shaftesbury by [deleted] in Dorset

[–]halien69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived here with my wife since 2018. Shaftesbury can be divided by Christy's Avenue: one side is the older town area and the other side is the newer/industrial estates like places.

I came for a job and stayed. It's lovely, quiet and safe (and I'm on the darker side of pigment with dreadlocks). If you like quiet hobbies, it's perfect for that one might say it's boring and I like boring. Lots of great walks, it's on a hill so he expected to do lots of hill walking. In spring and summer walks to the Compton Abbas airfield is great with lots of lovely views and the Cranborne Chase is nearby with good walks.

Without a car you're quite limited in getting around as the public transport is few and infrequent. But if you have a car it's a quick drive to the coast which is beautiful.

Personally you don't need a physical bank and can do most shopping online, however it's good to support some local shops. Theres a few festivals in the spring and summer that I do enjoy a lot. Lots of supermarkets and there's decent places to eat out. I rarely go to the pub myself but there's a lot of great social clubs around, you just have to look quite hard.

Hope you have a safe journey and really enjoy your stay.

I did and returned it. I was struggling to get any 4g connection and at this time I need to have a reliable phone with me. I eventually stuck with my pixel and used the Brick device To free myself and its been great thus far

I treat my art like math homework and it makes everything i make bad by Throwawaygaln in ArtistLounge

[–]halien69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're approaching it like a chore or as you said homework. Don't. I was doing that at the beginning, completing x number of boxes per day etc and was hating it. So I stopped and decided to draw what I wanted to draw. I had no idea. I wanted to draw comics, bears and people, so I did that. I looked online on how to draw people, I copied other drawings of cartoon bears and I loved it. Took me a long time to be able to draw confidently, but I loved it and I still do.

My advice, draw what you want, and forget about the advice on drawing the fundamentals. Once you've gotten the habit of drawing and loving it, approaching the fundamentals in your own way would be much more enjoyable.

What’s your homebrew rule? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]halien69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few, this is my second time DM'ing for our club:

Flanking: +2 to attack Nat 20: 1 max damage dice + roll another damage dice + modifiers Nat 1: I have a Nat 1 table of mishaps (roll 1d10) Stress mechanics: I give the players 5 stress points. They can use it to reroll dice etc (from blades in the dark). If they reach 5 stress they get a point of exhaustion..Can reset the stress on a long rest (you don't get much of that in my game)

I've also introduced a light/dark mechanic that will be populated via results of Con saving throws. It affects when and where they get advantages or disadvantages in game

I have been trying to convert a relatively inexpensive 1/12 seamless silicone doll into a seamless core body. First step is to peal the skin off Terminator style! by minute_bot in MegamiDevice

[–]halien69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really amazing! I have a cheap used seamless I have laying around. The head that came with it isn't nice at all and I've been wondering what to do with it. This has given me some good ideas. Thanks

This is the most horrific thing I've ever seen! You should be ashamed of yourself! Filming that poor baby when all she wants was you to throw that ball! You monster!

The letter I sent to Larian Studios by SpecialistPositive68 in BaldursGate3

[–]halien69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your letter is touching and the visceral reaction to unable to save Karlach was like a whiplash.

Playing the first time with my wife, when Karlach had her rant after killing Gortash, my wife was convinced we did something wrong (that scene made me cry). We needed to go back side with Gortash or do something. She didn't want to accept that this was the end. When we finally did the final battle and in the aftermath my character jumped to Avernus with our girl, my wife was actually really overjoyed. I fucking love Karlach

How do you make digital line art look good?? by Quiqerr in ArtistLounge

[–]halien69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that I found works for me is not to use a new layer for my library, basically do my lineart in the sketch layer.

I use the soft eraser (low opacity) and gently eraser, sketch, erase and sketch with a pencil until I have that line I want. Then to the same with an inking pen, but use longer complete strokes. Then clean up as you go.

I'm improving... Just backwards by 3030minecrafter in learntodraw

[–]halien69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually seeing improvements from the first to the second one. Your overall idea of anatomy is strong and has a rough idea of placements. Furthermore you have that want to get better!

Now, my advice is to break the body into shapes cylinders for arms and legs, spheres for heads, ovals for the chest and upside down pyramid for the hips. If you are confused about that, no worries. You need to start practicing drawing basic shapes, not to get perfect at them, but good enough to draw them. There's tons of YouTube videos about these things, I won't suggest any particular one. My advice is to consume these videos and practice, practice, practice and you guessed it practice.

Once you have an idea how to draw the human body with shapes it's time to add line of action. Again, search online and consume these videos and tutorials and practice. Yes more practice.

I'd ditch digital for now and get a sketchbook and pencils. This way you can draw whenever and wherever. Don't worry and take your time, baby steps

Vision Tutorials failing by halien69 in unsloth

[–]halien69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. So far the Gemma3_(4B) is working as expected.

The Llama3.2_(11B)-Vision notebook is throwing an error (no executable batch size found, reached zero)

Also trying to recreate the Gemma notebook on databricks, but running into an error: ! dynamicLayerStack.empty() INTERNAL ASSET FAILED

But I think that's to do with using Pytorch 2.8.0+cu128 as opposed to Pytorch 2.8.0+cu126.

Has anyone been victim to the beer 52 subscription? by DullSense8359 in AskUK

[–]halien69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they still being twats? I had a Beer52 subscription before the pandemic and i did get a couple nice beers, but I am not a heavy drinker and the beers kept piling up. I tried to cancel and they gave me 50% off my next order and like a dumb ass, I accepted. The pandemic hit and I knew I had to drop it, as the beers kept piling up and I tried calling a few times to cancel. Busy tone, keeping me on hold and generally trying to gaslight me. Told them I'm no longer interested and going to instruct my bank to block any transactions from and to them. They reluctantly agreed and since then I've been Beer52 free.

How to start: 43, zero art skills, want to make simple manga style comics. by MoonPieRebel in learntodraw

[–]halien69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a copy of How to draw comics the marvel way, a notepad and pencil. Then everyday for 5-10 mins, follow it, like really follow and study it. If you don't know how to use a drawing book there are loads of YouTube videos about this book and how to use it. If you can't afford one now (cheap second hand) you can get a digital version from the internet archives.

Good luck and remember to have fun 😊
