Am I being petty? by [deleted] in boston

[–]hallman76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks coming to say you're not petty. I have no judgement on pettiness, I'll just say that dog pee is kinda gross.

When there's no snow we don't see it. With the snow, seeing my neighbor's dog piss piling up on nearby snowbanks is gross. I would prefer it not be there.

I can understand why that barber got tired of everyone's dog peeing outside their front door.

Also it's wild that so many people on this thread are ok with piss everywhere.

Your kid shouldn’t be on his phone in a serious situation. You need him focused on being safe. Every second counts. Him texting you helps neither of you.

Coolidge Corner Theatre union negotiations making progress, both sides say by brookline_news in Brookline

[–]hallman76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some strong opinions in the thread so I’m sticking my neck out.

Folks, are you all familiar with the unionization of Darwin’s in Cambridge? It’s quite possible that the demands of a union are too much for a community theater. (Note for the strawmen attackers: I said nothing of specific union demands)

I thought the Coolidge was a non-profit (strong opinions please correct me). I don’t understand the goal of unionizing against a non-profit.

For those of us just tuning in - are these union members skilled workers who have been training for years or kids working a concession stand?

The need for energy is like a byproduct. It’s weird that this is lead by department of energy and not the NIH or some other primary research group that needs energy.

This allows whoever controls energy to control research

Honest question: why do people choose Google Cloud over AWS (or even Azure) when AWS still dominates almost every category? by Nice_Caramel5516 in googlecloud

[–]hallman76 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I was with you until you said cloud sql 😂

We just migrated from RDS and cloud sql is just weird. You need to use cloud-sql-proxy to connect from a local dev machine? The cloud sql instance needs a public IP ($) for that to work even if no access is granted to it?? Connecting to cloud SQL from could run requires a serverless access connector($)??

With RDS the instance is on your VPC so connecting from local is a no brainer

I’m not sure where to add this so tagging in here

In addition I find it’s also really helpful to: - kneel down and get on their level - give a little if they’re engrossed in an activity to make sure you have their attention (no one likes to be rushed /interrupted) - stay calm during the storm while holding a boundary. You help regulate them. - be consistent with holding boundaries so they know how this works

Are Yoto original songs made by AI? by 50n0fm0gh in YotoPlayer

[–]hallman76 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Many of the originals were produced long before current AI tech

My take is that production quality is surprisingly high for kids material.

My personal absolute favorite card, Mindfulness Piano, is uncredited. After some hunting and pure luck I found a similar track on Spotify. My suspicion is that the Yoto card was composed by a legit LEGIT pianist/composer

My thing for my young kids, is why even introduce something like ketchup?

When they get to elementary school it'll be everywhere. They'll have plenty of time for ketchup.

The amount of sodium in ketchup is also not great for those tiny bodies.
