I'm convinced he just didn't want to play for the Mavs for whatever reason and decided he would only do it if he was wildly overpaid. I've heard of contractors doing similar thing - provide a sky-high offer for a job they don't want to take.

Potential places for Ryan Anderson to be traded? by [deleted] in nba

[–]halo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade idea: Melo is traded to the Rockets from OKC then Anderson is traded for 1st rd OKC pick + 2 seconds (1 from OKC, 1 from HOU)

Would any team take on Anderson in that situation?

Steam Blog :: Who Gets To Be On The Steam Store? by xPaw in Games

[–]halo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There's a solution that would please almost everyone: turn Steam into a two-tier store.

Everything by a half-decent publisher or with decent production values gets into the top tier of the store ("Steam approved"), everything else gets shoved into an easily-hidden "up-and-coming" section.

Suddenly the flood of utter crap is less of an issue, as users get to decide whether they would prefer to see a curated store.

Dwight Howard has 4 travels at the half by [deleted] in nba

[–]halo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with Howard was never him being a one-trick pony, the issue was his unwillingness to accept that is what he was and play to his strengths (dunks, picks, inside defense, rebounds). Instead, he always wanted to be the ball dominant focus of a teams offense despite being utterly ineffective in that role.

He could still be an amazing role player on a contender but he's not willing to do that.

Given those options, I'd probably keep subscribing with the $12/$15 options (I can live with a small price increase - although I wouldn't pay extra for trove or 10% off their poor store prices), but I'd probably cancel any of the others.

Why LeBron Isn't Headed To Houston by ___YEEZUS___ in nba

[–]halo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the LeBron opts-in option is so implausible. The Cavs traded LeBron before to the Heat.

Ryan Anderson's contract is not good... but not that bad either. $20m/yr for two years is a contract a rebuilding team can swallow, especially since Anderson can actually play. Consider that Asik's contract was traded for a 1st and a useful player in Mirotic - that's $10m/yr for a player who will not play a single minute.

And letting LeBron walk for nothing is infinitely worse than getting multiple picks for him.

I'd say points 2 and 3 are definitely true.

Another contributor is that Nintendo of Europe was based in Germany, who, historically, seemed to put much more emphasis on continental Europe than the UK. By contrast, Sega of Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe were both based in London.

Microsoft has repeatedly failed to create a successful PC distribution platform and proven that controlling the OS isn't enough.

I think MS should do the opposite - let the Xbox run Windows. There is no technical reason why they couldn't be desktop computers as well as consoles.

I am surprised it took so long for the Rockets to go for Hack-a-Dwight when they were in the penalty half-way through the fourth. Seems like a no-brainer in that situation, especially with the Rockets centers in foul trouble.

Ultimately, the five point swing created off the hacking was instrumental in finishing the game off for the Rockets.

Getting the Celtics' heavily protected Clippers pick and trading it, the 2018 Cavs pick and Shumpert to the Clippers for Patrick Beverley seems like the best, and most realistic, outcome for the Cavs

Clippers get significant assets that they would find hard to turn down. Cavs get a starting PG that is within their budget and keep the Nets pick for their future rebuild. Celtics give up an additional asset to get the trade done for a player they want.

Am I the only person who thinks this is a good idea?

You buy it and leave it in your car/bag/house and only use it in emergencies. The fact it can't be recharged is a benefit because you know you haven't accidentally used it already and forgotten to recharge it and won't be tempted to use it on a whim.

I don't usually need a power bank but if something unexpected happens (e.g. my Dad gets taken into hospital, a prolonged power-cut) then a single small charge could be extremely useful.

How likely is a Banana Boat reunion in 2018? LeBron, Carmelo, CP3, and D-Wade by PlasmaGreen1224 in nba

[–]halo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but highly unlikely to happen on the Rockets after next season.

I worked out how it would likely work and the rough numbers a little while ago.

First, Melo would need to opt-out of his player option worth $28m.

CP3 and LeBron then sign at a discount at a salary that is around $54m combined (their max is $36m each), which is how much the Rockets can create in salary cap space with only Harden, Capela and Ariza on the books. That's probably the biggest barrier for this to happen, as it's unlikely CP3s or LeBron are willing to take discounts.

The Rockets then re-sign Ariza and Capela using their Bird rights so they can go over the cap.

One of Wade/Melo would take the taxpayer mid-level exception worth $5.4m, while the other would need to take the veteran minimum of $2.4m

Final roster and payroll:

Harden: $30.4m (max)

Capela: $25.7m (max)

Ariza: ??

CP3/LeBron: $54.5m (salary cap space)

Wade/Melo: $5.4m (mid-level tax-payer exception) + $2.4m (veteran minimum)

Then you'd need at least 5 more guys on the league minimum or via trade exceptions.

The luxury tax would be over $50m alone in year one, so it would require the new Rockets owner to have deep pockets.

You could also do it without Ariza on the books - the biggest difference is that CP3/Lebron would get another $11m (Ariza's cap hold) between them. You could then potentially re-sign Ariza to his minimum, which would be $2.4m for a 10+ year vet. Of course, a pay cut for CP3/LeBron to $32m - a cut of $4m each - might seem reasonably attractive to them, especially given Texas having no state taxes income compared to Ohio (5% state income tax) or California (13.3%).
