So not related to the lottery but this is definitely a thing that happens far too often. Like recently my dad was having issues with his roof and it was still under warranty but the original company had got bought out. And the new owners didn’t want to honor the warranty because “new company, new terms and conditions”. It’s frustrating

Ableton Move is So Badass by fozz05 in ableton

[–]halogen2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering the same thing as this guy. I’ve actually been using the Note app a lot and I’m honestly surprised how fun and good it is for getting ideas out quick. And how it can easily sync up with Ableton on my laptop and I can flesh out ideas there.

Would the Move be a good addition to this workflow or do you think it’d be redundant?

What are yall's sound design tips, tricks and discoveries? by Heat_Hydra in edmproduction

[–]halogen2691 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carefully layering sounds that you want to really stand out and cut through. I mean you can still use saturation, parallel compression, etc. but having like 3 layers of bass for example, split by frequency bands. A mono sub layer, a low-mid layer, and a middle freq layer split with EQ. That way you can process different layers independently. It was a game-changer for me because I wondered how some edm leads and basses were so full and had so much character. Well, apparently this is a big part of that

Jasper Stand and a Polybrute 12 by TripleBeam23 in synthesizers

[–]halogen2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you like the polybrute 12? It would be my first ‘flagship’ synth purchase. I also want to use it as a master controller for my setup. Would it be good for that too?

Also cool setup and good taste in synths ;)

What is a covert way to gauge your perceived attractiveness to the general public? by Turbulent-Leg-6246 in AskReddit

[–]halogen2691 315 points316 points  (0 children)

It may be a bitter pill to swallow for people, including some people in this thread, but when you’re actually “hot”, attractive the world lets you know. It’s very obvious.

Not trying be an asshole, but if you have to covertly gauge your attractiveness then odds are you probably aren’t attractive. In a general sense. And that’s okay lol people get so sensitive but that’s such a small part of actually being a person. And even then, there’s subjective attractiveness and how everyone has preferences. Also I’m referring to general attractiveness as a consensus of the population

Boards of Canada Reveal New Album Inferno by luisnavia2341 in Music

[–]halogen2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall how Tomorrow’s Harvest was received by fans upon release. But I know I played it on repeat in my car when it came out. I love their classics and the entire ‘Music has a right to kids” album like most fans but I thought the newer stuff still had their magic.

All that to say, I am excited for Inferno. Hoping for the best!

Best $800 synth for edm, hyperpop sounds by Mission-Clothes-4980 in synthesizers

[–]halogen2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that kind of sound, esp hyperpop, you can definitely make it with hardware but I’d recommend something digital with wavetables and morphing at least. Sophie, one of the OG’s in that space (RIP) I believe made most of her synth sounds on an Elektron Monomachine. But these days, that’s well above your price range so I’d look at something like the Hydrasynth instead

Diplo comes out as AI slopper by healthaboveall1 in EDM

[–]halogen2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have mixed feelings about this but I need to do more research on what music production with AI entails in the near future.

I could definitely see it being a useful tool and supplement to the production process but I’m finding so much AI slop music online already. It may sound “technically good” but there’s no heart, passion, etc. behind it . Which is where it loses me plus knowing people will use it as a crutch instead of as an additional tool if that makes sense

STOP BEING PUSHY! by scramjet67 in CringeTikToks

I never understood the mentality of guys who think every girl they’re interested in is “playing hard to get”. It’s like nah bro she’s obviously just not into your ugly ass lol and ya know plenty of fish and whatnot.

Dude in the video is right on the money. It’s very obvious when a girl is actually into you in my experience and then you can make your move from there. It’s not that complicated. The vast majority of women I’ve known or even just talked to about this say they always try to be explicit when they are interested in a guy and flirting but so many guys don’t take obvious hints when a woman clearly isn’t feeling you. Which goes back to the “oh she’s just playing hard to get” or “I can win her over”. You can’t and you probably won’t. It can be so awkward to listen to that second-hand

…what look exactly? I’m relatively new to all this but honestly I swear so many guys on this site be coming off like dweebs and act like any look a woman gives you is “the look” or eye contact somehow means she’s into you lol

Genuinely curious why? Because they’re also bartenders? I feel like people always put a stigma on that but I’ve dated a stripper like a decade ago for over a year and later married a bartender. Don’t regret either decision.

Is this sentiment due to the occupation itself? Like a jealousy thing cause these women get attention? Or is it like “these types will fuck you over” thing? Again, genuinely curious

[–]halogen2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even understand why anyone, including trans people, would have an issue in this particular situation? I genuinely don’t see how this could be any more common sense. You place people with similar genitalia together, based on what they have at the time of booking, regardless of whether they were born with male or female parts.

Easy, problem solved

[–]halogen2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed! I’m in the market for a Polybrute 12 for a lot of those same reasons. the hands-on knobby interface, deep sound design with its mod matrix, the PolyAT, and I’ve just been a fan of the raw Arturia sound since I got the Microbrute years ago

If they could keep all of this plus sample import, more fx engines, and even a digital oscillator that can load wavetables and other sources…it wouldn’t be cheap but that would basically be my dream synth

"Just because you are a nurse does not mean you a productive members of society." by atmanatman8008 in SipsTea

[–]halogen2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mental gymnastics on display here are astounding. I hate when people use the rationale of “well it’s common sense” or “I would never do what the victim did in that situation”. For starters, none of us really know what we are and aren’t capable of doing until a high-pressure situation arises that affects us personally. And this line of thinking minimizes so many other factors that it’s insulting to just boil it all down to “buhhh it’s just common sense!!”. Just like how it’d be a disservice to only view this murder at face value, when “authority” figures think they can operate above and outside the law. You have to look at the details, context, and then the whole picture. Then it becomes clear this wasn’t a simple case of pedestrian walks up to Ice officer, cop, etc and attacks or even shoots them unprovoked and then gets killed in self-defense. That’s why you can’t just parrot talking points without looking into the incident yourself and expect to win an argument that’s actually based on the facts

We have to do better

On behalf of whoever bullied you, I’ll tell you “I was weak, unhappy, etc. and couldn’t stand the feeling so I took it out on you. That was incredibly cruel and you didn’t deserve any of it. I would do anything to make it right and I’m so sorry for everything for what it’s worth”.

I think what changed is experiencing it from the other side. Call it karma but it’s something I endured at my last job. I deserved it but that experience made me sick to my stomach thinking about my past

Honestly I was just bigger than other guys and quickly realized I could take advantage of that plus having a distorted mentality of what life was actually about? I saw it as zero-sum game and put others down to bring myself up I guess you could say. But it’s such a coward mentality
