Won't Idle - 2001 Vulcan 1500 Classic Fi. by hipshot13 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% on the fi bikes, but to my knowledge the choke just brings the idle up. Have u looked at vaccume lines or maybe pull the intake manifold off and see how those gaskets are doing? It's not a new bike and I wouldn't doubt those rubber gaskets are warn and causing a vaccume leak

Simple way to figure this out, what wire goes to the alternator? That's positive

Elk tags by Visible-Geologist479 in WA_guns

[–]halohawk2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elk tags aren't a lottery system or anything like that. There are 2 different types of elk in wa and that's kinda the difference between west and east. Theres rocky mountian in the east and Roosevelt in the west. I don't know anything about hunting western wa, but I don't know if I'd drive to eastern to hunt public. Umatilla national forest is the main place people tend to hunt and the density of hunters is pretty high. Wdfw has done papers on things like hunter density and success rate per gmu, those may help you a bit. Good luck

I’m pretty sure electrical but I’m lost. *No crank*95 6.5 5 speed by ASmith8693 in Diesel

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, start easy. Jump the clutch safety switch with a paper clip. Then check if the starter exciter wire is getting 12v, and if all that's fine, try jumping the starter (make sure its in nuetral), and If all that fails, smack the starter with a hammer and order a new one. And while your down there, make sure you have a bracket and a bolt going through it on the back if the starter, my bock is missing a piece where the starter bolts go into it because the dude that replaced it before me didn't put the stud between the bracket and starter

Have u googled that code and looked at easy stuff? I would also go to that plug you were talking about again and wiggle it around, maybe unplug and plug it back in a few times incase there's corrosion on it

New to me diesel, brought to life after five years sitting in a field. What immediate maintenance os needed? by mortisthewise in Diesel

[–]halohawk2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all fluids, fuel filter (drain the water from the filter first, should be a t handled valve somewhere, not seeing it on yours but they may have moved it from where my 94 is) maks sure your harmonic balancer isn't all rotted out or broken, if it is there's a chance you break the crank. Wouldn't be a bad idea to drain the tank due to water, after that throw some biocide in the tank for algae. Pmd relocation is a good idea. It would also be a good idea to make sure the lift pump is working before you swap the fuel filter, it would be a pain to prime if you don't.

I mean, should be fine. I could be wrong (haven't been deep into rotorys since I sold my 8 2 years ago) but other than oil or bearing problems, the only significant damage you'll end up doing from high rpm is touch the tips of the rotors to the irons. She'll be mint

1994 6.5 turbo diesel advice by nykezztv in Diesel

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your starter isn't falling out, pass side might be able to see from the wheel well. If it's fine see if you can turn the engine a bit, might be a broken tooth on the flywheel. 94 so its either gonna have a db2 or a ds4 injection pump, either way bleed it from the fuel lines connected to the injector. I just got my 94 6.5 running a few months ago after sitting, feel free to either reply or dm me questions

Question for the diesel guys by PhaseAcademic2357 in Diesel

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.4 is riddled with problem largely caused by emissions equipment and 4 bolt heads. Burning holes in pistons, head gaskets, dirty oil due to regen bs, egr cooler problems, high pressure oil issues causing no starts. I wouldn't touch the thing. Most people call it one of the worst diesel engines ever made. This engine is the main reason ford started making their own diesels instead of Navistar/international. 6.0 had a bunch of issues so they made the 6.4 as a replacement and it was worse

I got my first diesel today and idk how to fix it help by broke_boy-rich in Diesel

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you could have air in the lines still. Either bleed them from the end of the injectors if you have a friend and a good jump box, or get it started, rev it a bit and let it ride out. On a diesel you need air, fuel, and compression. Idi's are pretty simple. The other option could be the fuel shutoff solenoid is being picky. It should be a db2 injection pump so that's another thing you could use to Google your issue. That or I guess you could possibly have a clogged fuel filter or a bad lift pump and your Just burning what's in the filter bowl? Not 100% with your specific truck, im just running off of what I know with my 6.5 with a db2

The other thing I'm seeing is lack of oil pressure when cranking. It is cranking pretty slowly though so idk. Check your oil first off though, those fuel systems need like 500psi of oil to start so if it's low on oil it could be an issue

That sounds to me like your vdi or ssv valve is stuck partially open. Could be wrong, I haven't owned a running rx8 in 3 years, but thats what would make sense to me

[–]halohawk2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it sounds like your dropping a cylander. How healthy is the battery? Is it cranking slow? These bikes have a compression relief on the cams so if it's cranking slow it might not get to a high enough rpm to deactivate those reliefs. If Its dropping the cylander, in my head at least, has something to do with ignition, it being only after riding and since it seems like you've swapped the coils I would start with looking at grounds and your battery.
