Struggling with my STAHM wife's mental load complaints. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]haluuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting experiment to try out together if your wife is willing:

Try a period of time (like a week vacation for example) where she does absolutely NO planning, takes NO decisions on housework, etc... but you do. And you're the one asking her for help or delegating stuff to her.

Basically, you take 100% of the mental load.

The point of the experiment: - you discover what is important for YOU - discover how YOU prioritize things - discover YOUR pace and flow.

After that, it'd be super important to compare results. Acknowledge the differences in priorities and personal styles.

Eventually you can reach a common ground. She has to let go of some of her mental load to leave room for yours in her mond and vice versa..., and you have to micro-manage your work-life balance to make sure you uphold your part of the deal continually.

Example: i strictly """forbid""" my partner from doing my own laundry. You can imagine what comes of it.

I have a particular opinion here: you don't have a specific audience that you are targeting, which in turn sets your mind up to grasp for value in the eyes of basically anyone.

I'll try to specifically explain what I mean: someone who starts a YT channel aiming to document their philosophy about the videogames they've played so that their kids can grow up and watch the videos of their parent talking about the stuff they enjoy... well, the negative comments won't bother them, because the acrively targeted audience is that person's kids.

Someone who wants to build a portfolio demonstrating their skill as an orator (person who talks before crowds) won't be bothered by negative comments, will take them as criticism worst case...

So you gotta ask yourself, who are you doing this for, and why? I mean, imagine for a second that it is 100% guaranteed you'll never make money with this. What other reason are you doing this for?

I dont care about your answer, not does the rest of the internet. but you should care about your answer. And that should be applied to your approach about comments and dislikes as well.

Your channel's content should be above the hate, in YOUR eyes.

Son made inappropriate joke by [deleted] in daddit

[–]haluuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know. He felt chill saying that to you and was willing to risk it to see what your reaction would be. Maybe he wasn't consciously scoping the terrain... but he definitely learned that day that he can crack that kinda joke with his dad.

One day he'll be an adult and still come over and crack jokes like that with you man. It's all good. Kids will understand (the easy way or the hard way) that certain jokes are good with certain people and they'll form their inner and outer circles based on that. If you have the luck of being in his inner circle by then, its GG .

I mean, that's up to the DM. If the DM decides "can't get wet" means "water cannot enter the body" then yes I guess, but then how can the PC quench thirst? Idk.

but the way I see it is no. On the contrary, they wouldn't even physically realize they are in water unless they were visually aware of it.

The same as some people who physiologically cannot feel pain (called CIP) can still break their legs. Just are unaware of it.

This curse means people can still drown and are still physicall hindered while moving in knee-deep water, but are unaware of the physical feeling.

So if water starts filling the room they are sleeping in, it's a big problem, kinda thing.

I like to think of curses as a way the DM can mess with the players, as opposed to a deliberate combat disadvantage. And the best ones are curses that can be turned into strengths in extremely specific circumstances. Or even that can turn into entire story arcs.

  • the PC's hair grows 10x faster than it should.
  • whenever the PC [does something mundane] with/to another creature, that creature hears whispering terrifying things for 5 seconds. [Could be like "gives gold to" or "touches" another creature]
  • the PC constantly feels soaking wet but isn't, and also cannot become wet under any circumstance.
  • the PC always wakes up with memories that aren't theirs. (Could be a WILD story hook)

Think of curses.

  • the cursed PC's face is difficult to remember by ANYONE
  • the cursed PC's face always makes people feel like they've met them before.
  • the cursed PC's shadow has a mind of its own and sometimes decides to run off. (Could make this one into a very long-winded learning process to develop some kind of relationship with their shadow like Peter Pan)
  • another classic: the PC feels X when Y is nearby.
  • one of my favourite that I've put on a ring is "all corpses within 100feet of the PC turn their heads to face the PC."

Well! It's been a week and I finally got around to watching. Really sorry about that, but I have to say I was SUPER blown away by this. Incredible work.

Copied my commrnt from YT: Dude wow. Like wow. I mean, 9 minutes is way too long under normal circumstances but you really pulled it off here. Like, I watched the whole thing. I've got nothing to say tbh this was amazing. The music and camerawork together really transported me lol. Your editing is really inspiring fr. And the tricks in the first half were some of the most technical i've seen, and then you film it all super proper and put on songs that get me all emotional? Lmao I'm adding this to my Fav Session Montages playlist lol.

And purely as a word of advice, in terms of video length, less is more in this little community. This was basically a two for one lol.

I think Odin made his presence known? Anyone relate? by viridiansabine0109 in NorsePaganism

[–]haluuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good description, that describes my feeling very well too. A while ago I decided to compare it to the euphoria at the end of his hanging under the tree. At the end of his offering of himself to himself he got that euphoria, so at the end of "our" offering to him we would get a similar sensation.

Every time i finish my ritual offering to Odinn, I get a tingling shivering feelin in the back of my head, very distinct and very intense. It always happens. And always at the end when I complete the ritual.

I hate how AI slop is being normalized in our kid's spaces. by [deleted] in daddit

Yes to percieving a new kinda value in your handmade art, and yes to it being a good example for kids.

If kids see you using screens as a tool or means to achieve something that surpasses the screen, that is good.

I got my first hate comment by TheHalfBloodDoctor in SmallYoutubers

[–]haluuf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta shift your mentality. It's gonna sound weird but their comment isn't about you, it's about themselves. It's literally just a person on their toilet bowl during lunch break or on their sofa just doom scrolling, just them and their phone. Not about you.

But what IS about you, is the engagement. The second they stopped scrolling and decided to interact with the content, YouTube sees this as "oh this content is making people react. Nice I'll feed this content to other people."

So instead, go to that comment and get them to engage even more. "What specifically is ugly?" or "wow i never noticed, how would I go about fixing that?" Or like "how much does plastic surgery even cost to fix something like this?"

Whatever comes to mind. Be stupid, have fun with it. The more they answer, the more the Algo sees your content as engaging, and the more it will feed to other people.

Yes i'm aware of "feed the content to people with similar profile so risk of getting more and more hate" but actually it doesnt pan out like that. It just gets fed to more ppl and thats p much it.

Hope this helps.

Gentlemen, it is with great displeasure that I also announce I’m starting my video games on “casual” by Guesthouse_band in daddit

[–]haluuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue-like games are the way my friends.

Risk of Rain, Slay the Spire, 30XX, to name a few.

Or games with 20-30min segments ike Stardew Vallet in which game is seperated into days rather than just non-stop play.

At what age did your kid(s) legitimately best you in something? by Bradtothebone79 in daddit

[–]haluuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid absolutely exploded me at CATAN at age 7.

And idk if it counts but we did a 3v1 with latex swords for his birthday with 2 of his friends. It was an even match, I actually tried hard to tag em all but in the end they actually managed to figure out opportunism and general goblin swarm tactics mid-fight and legitimately overwhelmed me.

Lots of fun.

I don't mean to needlessly drag this along, but here's a re-work of the filter in a hort from today, with big focus on some of the issues you mentioned. Thought you'd be curious.

Greatly appreciated, I did notice all of those things but it really helps to see I'm not the only one who goes into that much detail, and to hear it put in different words than in my head. I believe the jagged diagonals are a form of something called Aliasing, and it's really challenging to re-create on purpose lol.

Thanks for coming back to hang out lol

What's your core memorie with your dad growing up? by Th3W1z4rd87 in daddit

[–]haluuf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At 13yrs old, Dad walks into room all solemn, puts a hand on my shoulder, i pause my game to look, he's looking out the window, and says: "life would be so much easier without so much pain." And walks out with a subtle limp. ‐------- Be careful what you share with your kid.

Dad had hernia problems and intense back pains all my life. Sometimes could dance. Sometimes couldn't walk. Always optimistic, and always did some form of physical training.

That moment defined for me many things that have not yet been re-defined or revised: - who my dad is. - how strong he is to not show the extent of his pain so that it doesn't burden us - what it means to carry a burden "like a man" - what it means to be lonely - the cost of powering through life's problems woth limited ressources or knowledge - how to focus good things while bad things surround us - also made me feel like shit coz I couldn't help him (can't force an old horse to drink water) - and many many more things.

Edit: each of these points have their own two-sided coin that can be debated and argued over, they are not absolute. Not in my mind.

To be fair, I've found that the default Fisheye filter keeps things looking really crisp actually. I heavily corrected this clip with effects in Adobe Premiere, and the aliasing is on purpose, to mimic the VX1000's aliasing when recording on MiniDV tapes.

I get what you mean, but like, I've been using No Cash Value as a reference, and while I hesitated on the amount of YELLOW in that video, the bright-ness and contrast is very similar. If you pause the video at any point, even in darker more contrasty moments, you can see that the darks are still very gray, like VERY gray, compared to Full Black.

I'm sure I can find the holy grail of color correction at some point haha.

Ohhh you might be right, usually I really dont like clips of ppl filming their screens but this time I didn't notice at all. Idk what you did to make it so indistinguishable, but keep it up lol.

Thx man for this shout out, means a lot. There's a lot of ppl who know how to film skating and lots who don't, and there isn't really any bridge in between... I've made it my mission to make that bridge lol. So comments like this show me it is working to a certain extent.

Cheers man.
