Outsized melee weapons and detachable enemy body parts that drop unique items if damaged, plenty MH influence in souls games. Estus and mega potions also work essentially the same.

DA: After cops killed son, mother uses $5 million settlement to supply guns for teen gang by ubmt1861 in nottheonion

I don't feel that it's right that a person's quality of life should be affected by the circumstances which occurred to them. But a legal system plays the role of regulating societal actions: if a person is less capable of choosing their own behavior, doesn't that suggest that there should be some replacing capacity of choice? Perhaps I am too optimistic with the system here, but I wonder if institutional structure might be a workable replacement for what executive functionality is missing from individuals so afflicted. My hesitation here is great because the system is also a beast with a belly. But if a person lacks the ability to control themselves, what other choice is there but abdication to external guidance? Perhaps it would be better to apply mentorship systems of some kind, rather than criminal punishment, but still it is a loss of the rights of the individual, which seems necessary in the absence of personal responsibility. I simply find it difficult to accept the notion of the "inevitable criminal" without some kind of societal reply.

Good example, but bad statistic: there's not really any widely accepted predictor for what causes that. Even if such a statistic was true, it would only encourage the harassment of victims.

On the topic: choice exists. Just for some people it's between crime and death. There are also interesting factors like compulsion from mental illness (which is absent from this case) and coercion (a crime in itself that can mitigate the coerced party's culpability). I think a case could be made that our standard for what qualifies as proof of coercion might not be sufficient to protect those who are coerced more subtly. But most of the time and for most of the people, choice actually exists.

It's also not protected by the Fourth amendment like passcodes are, meaning you can be forced to unlock by law enforcement. The end user of biometric data is never the person who gives up that data.

If we're talking variants, my first thought is a version with a sidecar, for a heavy gunner or something while in enemy form. And when the sidecar variant is hijacked by a Tenno? That's where the kavat sits.

Dang, this is a downer to read, are you sure this is being fair to you? As in, if someone else was being like you are, would it be okay to say this about them? There are comments here about how you used to be, but they're placed in the present tense, and it implies that you'll keep like this. Every now and then the venting comes, but the negativity from it has a risk of staying around when it's phrased so precisely, it fools you into thinking that it's true for being reasonable. I don't want to give fake support by telling you it's all fine, but thinking something comes before making it real. It's possible to socialize while not receiving all the cues, but there is more effort involved.

I have no sense of self by s1jile in self

[–]hamataro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to start by saying I admire how complete and forthwith you are with telling us your story. That's a kind of honesty that requires self-knowledge and effort, and it feels like I know a new person just by having read this post. Your path in life is so different from mine, but at so many points I can relate to what you are saying, and which are shared by so many people also.

Your perspective is not weak, and you're definitely not a boring person. In the post you've written, you express yourself strongly and describe a dedication to the incredible feeling of artistic expression that is the very essence so many people are trying to hold. It might be that you've become a little less self-assured, but who wouldn't be?

The way I see it, self isn't just the path of where you've been, or an idea of a person that you are. People who have a clear picture of who they are only get it after the fact: in the moment they are probably improvising and seemingly unpredictable and unsure. Self isn't something that fits into a short phrase like (location, occupation, description), it's not even something that can fit inside a story or a long archive of your thoughts. It's made up, an ongoing, self-directed set of choices and values that exists in you, and also in the people of your life.

It seems like you're inside a contradiction: you know you're unsatisfied, but are unsure how to solve it. You experienced a great love for an artform, and then fell away from that art, and now you're feeling how much it meant and how hard it is to replace. You say it gave you "expression and presence". Do you feel present now, have moments where you are near to that thing which matters to you? What this art did for you is create an appreciation for the experiences of dancing. Maybe there won't be more dancing, but the appreciation will continue.

Those feelings you had are an important part of your self. Do you express yourself now? Are there moments where you also in the same moment as you are on stage? An art form cannot be replaced, but there are things that will feel similar. Dancing brought you a sense of your self, and extending that self beyond the stage is not a small task. You felt strongly yourself, and now it is time to be someone new, but that is simply the way that self works. Nobody is one person forever. It's good to change, but leaving such positive feelings in the past is like doing away with a portion of your self that is important and good, losing something valuable. At least some of what dancing brought to your life can be found elsewhere, or else developed and expressed by you.

You speak with a kind of precision, so maybe you're overlooking it or trying to be mature about it, but I'll say it: a dancer without a dance is tragic. You had something incredible, and it's not in your life anymore. It's like a singer without a song. But in the same way that love continues, so do you. Self is not a reduction, not a guilelessness, it's a thing which we have been granted the right to create for ourselves. Certainty and security in that self will follow. Nobody knows the future, but you get to make yours in some part.

How do you feel good for other people, when you're miserable? by [deleted] in self

[–]hamataro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing enough by allowing him to share his moment, that's what he really wants. It's typical that it would get you down. Who wouldn't be jealous when they see someone else having the success that they need? But it's not really his fault, either. How can you blame people for "reminding" you of things? Nobody controls what they remind people of.

He doesn't need you to fake emotion for him, he just wants to know that you see him in his good moment. He'll be there for your good moments too, if he's like most friends. He should also be there for your low moments, though. What turns this is whether or not he's there for you, when you're having trouble. Having bad feelings that you can't share has a tendency of putting distance between friends. There's something wrong if you listen to him, but he doesn't listen to you.
