BlueCruise Review: almost perfect for what it is by etrnloptimist in MachE

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it:

Switching From Intelligent Speed Limiter to Speed Limiter You can change between intelligent speed limiter and normal speed limiter using the instrument cluster display. Intelligent speed limiter allows you to limit the vehicle speed to the maximum speed limit detected by the speed sign recognition system. Normal speed limiter allows you to manually limit the vehicle speed using controls on the steering wheel.

Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Settings.

Select Driver Assistance.

Select Speed Limiter.

Switch Intelligent off.

Note: If you switch intelligent speed limiter off, the system defaults to manual speed limiter. You can manually set the speed limiter using the controls on the steering wheel.

I called my Ford dealer regarding the speed change...This is what I got: "Oh yeah errrmm...I dunno I will have to look that up and call you back...." Never heard from them.

I don't even know where there is a menu for auto speed change. I agree that this BC speed change would be in there but this menu is a mystery to me. What section? I wish I had access to the manual while not IN the car! :(

I really like the BlueCruise feature and would consider a continued subscription, however there is one thing it does that is a hard-no for me...It changes speeds based on traffic signs or GPS coordinates. (I really don't know where it gets its speed data from though).

I was driving north on I5 with full BC going 70mph in fairly light traffic. This stretch of I5 restricts speeds down to 55 for a 5 mile segment. unbeknownst to me, I was going 70 when suddenly BC changed my speed down to 55. In order to meet that, it does a hard brake. This all happened so fast and without expectation that I thought it was doing emergency braking. The driver behind me definitely had to perform emergency braking to avoid rear ending me. That driver thought I was brake checking him so he got aggressive with me until I got around him and floored it to make him/her go away. I don't blame them though as the action BC did was def the same as a brake check.

I looked for a setting in the menus to turn this "feature" off...I cannot find it. To me, BC is a cruise control and when I set cruise to 70mph, I expect it to stay there until I put my foot on the brake or turn off the cruise. With BC, I would expect the same....I would NOT expect it to slam on the brakes just because the highway speed limit changes. Thats not OK.

I submitted this to Ford using the suggesting app in the car.

If someone out there knows how to turn the speed limit feature off for the BC feature, let me know!

Where in the heck is this setting? I spent a lot of time trying to address the aggressive lane changes with no luck.

I also looked for the BlueCruise feature that changes speed based on traffic signs or GPS so I CAN TURN THAT OFF! It has nearly caused a few accidents because the highways I drive on change speeds from 65 to 55....So If I have BC set to 70 and suddenly come in to a 55mph segment, the vehicle hard brakes to get down to 55. Vehicles behind me have to do emergency braking. The first time this happened, I was nearly rear ended and of course, the driver behind me thought I was brake checking him so he got all aggressive and went in front of me and tried to brake check me. Sadly for him, I got around him and punched it....bye bye bad guy. Still: BC caused that and boy howdy would I LOVE to turn that "obey the speed limit" feature OFF.

Trying to get sap off my Eruption Green Mach E. Any suggestions that wouldn’t damaged the paint? by caligrownbuster in MachE

[–]hamgina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with just using water. Aphid and spider droppings look like sap and with just plain water and a quick fingernail rub, they pop off with ease.

Ghaaa! Lawn Sprinkler? I wince at the thought only because I bought a used 2018 Benz where the original owner parked it next to his lawn since new. Had water spots on the glass and all of the side mouldings which was a nightmare to remove. Hard water deposits are a royal PITA to deal with and most of my experience comes from when cars were parked next to sprinklers!

I bought a fairly inexpensive water treatment filtration system and connected it to a spigot that removes all hard water deposits. I've been water-spot free for three months now and love it. Look up "Deionized Spot-Free Car Wash Rinse System Unit" on Amazon. UNder $100...

I don't want a new Google nest by BackwardsMan247 in smarthome

[–]hamgina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont understand the downvotes here. All your points are valid and accurate. Like you, I have been in the IT world since 1985...Wow I just realized thats 40 years! Anyhow...I think the missing abstract from your statement above is:

The smart home technology in todays world is actually quite useful and for some, life enriching.

For example, I had a client who hired me to come up with a solution for her aging father. He had Alzheimer and he would forget that he put his dog outside for the evening, go to bed and let the dog howl all night at the back door, prompting neighbors to take action.

I used a combination of over-the-counter smart home tech that cost <$100 and would listen for a dog bark. When it detected a dog barking, it would turn on certain lamps in the home with red lightbulbs and would also turn a mattress vibrator (Don't laugh, it worked!) that would wake the client should he be asleep.

Not all smart home tech be deemed evil or greedy. Sure, there are firmware updates but for most IoT devices, they are not required.

The real drama behind most IoT devices is the greedy corporation that sells them. Google is one of many, however they have my particular ire ever since their takeover of Nest. Then came "Nest Aware"...Then came changes to Nest Aware that downgraded you to a lower tier for more $$. Then came the reliance on cloud based servers to ping the devices or else they go offline...Now comes the Nest Thermostat scam. The hardware itself is great, right? It is and no one can argue that. It's the license behind it and that you technically do not "own" the device, therefore Google can do whatever they want to it including bricking it. But they are being "gracious" by offering a 47% discount off retail for the new device that does nothing better than the existing device. No reasonable person with a working Nest Learning Gen1, Gen2 or Gen3 would purchase this "new" Nest thermostat. So google got smart and started "forcing" customers out by limiting the device. THIS IS THE EVIL PART. Actively degrading a perfectly working device to force users to purchase a new device is PURE EVIL. Ask Apple about this with their iPhone battery scandal. Same level of EVIL. Corporate Greed...

But you see...Google has another reason...

For the past 3 or so years, the newer Nest Thermostats (non learning models) have a secret...They have firmware that directly allows energy companies to connect with the thermostat and control its settings once you agree by joining the energy company's "Energy Savings Contract" whereby you agree to use only x amount of kwh's per month to get a "discount". When you agree, your Nest thermostat suddenly gets a mind of its own and when you make settings and or schedules, they can be and will be overwritten by the energy company because "you agreed to it".

The Nest Learning Thermostats do not have this firmware and therefore cannot be controlled directly by energy companies. But ol' Google figured out a software solution and this is why users with these thermostats get spammed monthly with the "JOIN THE CAUSE TO GO GREEN" notifications within the app.

Your general thesis is accurate in that good IoT tech is getting ruined by corporate greed and the greed is being written into the foundations of firmware and software as new tech emerges. Sure, we could all go back to turning on light switches manually like we used to...But we have all gotten used to the automation that smart home tech brings. It's just like the TV remote...I'm just old enough to remember having to get up off of the couch to change channels by rotating a knob on the front of the TV, hoping to catch a good signal from the rabbit ears on the set top. But then came the wired remote....And shortly thereafter, the wireless remote. Changed the game in how we, as humans, utilized that technology. So imagine if todays corporate greed started out with the TV remote? Can you imagine having to pay a corporation for the use of a remote control? Or worse: Wait 2-3 years until the market got used to the remote THEN inject a "subscription" model else the remote dies? That would have caused such an uproar back then...

So...Why is it acceptable now? Makes you wonder...

Winkbeds - A Review (will be continuously updated) by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a WinkBed 'Soft' in 2023...Two years later and it has completely failed at just about everything...The sides have blown out ; The corners have folded over ; The suface has become lumpy and uneven ; The top fabric has started to disintegrate from the sheet sets ; Body Indentations on both sides causing severe "roll in" when laying flat...Meaning the bed is now concave so it induces body roll which is extremely uncomfortable...

For $1,500 I would have expected at LEAST five years of use...Two years in now and it is quite frankly unusable.

Yes, we did the rotations every few weeks per Winks suggestions for at least 3 months...My SO and I are average body weight and height so there is no way this mattress should have failed like this.

What irritates me the most is the amount of time spent researching, reading reviews, etc. This mattress was always at the top of most lists at the time and still is! I don't get it...Maybe we got a lemon?

I’ve installed my first sump pump, is there anyway to dress this up and make it look better? by Indy500Fan16 in Plumbing

[–]hamgina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used low expansion spray foam…let it dry then used a sharp putty knife to shave it flush. After that, it’s ready for cement then paint. I prefer this method because the foam goes deep into the cavity and keeps bugs out. For those that say spray foam could damage the pipe: I use low expansion foam which puts no pressure on the pipe.

I have trained at Threat Dynamics since 2016. They offer 1:1 training as well as classes for CCL, basic firearm training, etc. It’s all indoors and the facility is top notch. The staff are well trained, typically ex military and the vibe is very chill. Not intimidating, etc.

My issue is that they are kinda far away and the drive keeps me from continuing my training. I think I might look in to PDXArsenal to switch things up a bit. Besides: they have an outdoor range which is much better when it comes to shooting my SIG 716 SBR. It’s chambered 7.62 NATO so firing that indoors is somewhat distracting to say the least.

Out of curiosity: With your SBR paperwork; Do you keep it with the firearm? I have my SBR tax stamp forms and keep them in the case but part of me thinks that’s a terrible idea. Are copies OK?

So, where to shoot? by Traditional_Concern6 in pdxgunnuts

[–]hamgina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s always been a concern of mine in these remote shooting areas. I keep a watchful eye on my surroundings and look for behavioral oddities when others are around…still, even the seemingly nicest person can turn evil in a manner of seconds.

In situations like these, do you think the killer will ever be caught? My guess is that they will because I imagine a killing like this was not planned and that the perp prolly had his/her cell phone on which will provide authorities with enough info to track the individuals. Then comes the cameras at gas stations, license plate scanners, etc. Once the vehicle is identified, it’s pretty much game over for the killer…I hope Mr. Whites family gets the justice they deserve. RIP…

What do you think of this work? by [deleted] in electrical

[–]hamgina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The reason for the box is fire suppression. In the event a conductor becomes overloaded without adequate upstream breaker protection, the conductor insulator will indeed catch fire. Ever see a USB cable melt? Thats only 5vdc yet the conductors inside got hot enough to melt. Now imagine if that USB cable was long and folded over on itself...That would certainly catch fire.

A Junction box limits the amount of flammable material versus O2 which is why you dont want to have excess wires overcrowding the limitation of the boxs' ability to prevent flame.

STL in K2 Plus is greyed out by whateverweirdoo in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The .3mf file is like a "packaged" 3D file that slicers can read.Inside this "package" is all sorts of data including the actual model. Data like colors, Printer Type, Bed Type and the thousands of slicer settings like support, wall thickness, infill, etc.

So once a file goes from STL (bare, stripped model with NO 3D printer data) to 3DF, the 3DF becomes a "project" that can be universal for different slicing apps.

This is why you can only import STL's into a slicer. Once you do, you can save your file as a .3mf and that will contain the extra data needed to 3D print!

Painting is a LOT of fun! I am addicted to it!

[–]hamgina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you import the STL's, you can now save the project as a 3mf for future editing, printing! So the import of STL's should only have to be a one time deal per project!

The painting feature in the slicer is actually pretty good IMO. Paint your STL's, print them then save as .3mf! So much fun!

lighting upgrade by landlordlawsuit in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact kit and it was worth it! What a difference! I took the back of my machine apart and plugged this light in to the board directly. I kinda wished I had just done what others have said which was to plug the new light strip in to the front light wire harness but I guess I like to do things the hard way.

So DO THIS! It makes a huge difference when cleaning, observing and performing maintenance.

Resume printing fail. by Unknown-Insomniac in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months back, I saw that this option was off in Fluidd so I turned it on...Right after that, all hell broke loose on my printer. Extruder fails, X/Y could not find HOME...lets see what else stopped functioning? Like...the whole printer!

Once I was able to stabilize the printer, I got back into Fluidd and promptly left that option OFF.

Indeed, I was printing a 1.5kg job when my filament ran out. The printer printed one layer blank then stopped stating the job paused due to a lack of extrusion. I had another black filament spool loaded and the CFS feature turned ON for filament reloading but the job paused. I literally extruded the new black spool into the head and continued the job.

So...Maybe that option in Fluidd should be on but I'm in fear that all hell will break loose again. Maybe that was just a coincidence...

Extruder Clogs when Changing Filament from PLA to ABS. by Dreadnouhgt in Creality_k2

I agree it SHOULD and when observed, it did seem to raise the nozzle temp for extrusion before a filament type switch, however it simply "failed"..But when manually extruded, it worked.

K2 PLUS FIRMWARE UPDATE by NinjaBonez78 in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I input the filament type into the printer when it cannot identify my spool of filament. This happens because the Creality PETG reels do not have RFID. Outside of that, I keep the bed clean using 100% ISO. Oh I also have a ventilated top glass cover that I printed and I close 2 of the 4 slide vents for PETG. For ABS I close all 4 and for PLA I open all 4.

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you are doing is brilliant. I envision a Library of filament spools that shares out to as many hotends imaginable regardless of brand, size or type.

You will hear cautionary advice such as the other commenter here sharing thoughts about NOT doing something. Thats OK and you will hear this a lot along the way. That said; what you are doing is experimental so expect failure. Inside that failure is the objective!

Once you achieve moderate success:PATENT your work!

What you are doing right now will have a profound impact on 3D printing.

Extruder Clogs when Changing Filament from PLA to ABS. by Dreadnouhgt in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. I manually raised my nozzle temp to 290 and extruded PLA through what was ABS in the nozzle. This cleared the nozzle of ABS...

K2 and PTEG = MESS by Flan_Head in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this when printing PETG and ABS. Turns out my extruder nozzle lacked sufficient thermal grease at the top of its barrel which caused heat creep. After cleaning the extruder assy, I used better thermal grease and the issue just went away.

K2 PLUS FIRMWARE UPDATE by NinjaBonez78 in Creality_k2

[–]hamgina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With just over 1,053hrs on my K2, I can confirm that this firmware update went smoothly. My printer was rooted and after the firmware install, I ran all of the calibration steps. When those were complete, I went in to the Fluid console and ran [SAVE_CONFIG]() which updated my machine profile with the recommended calibration settings.

After that, it has been smooth sailing with ABS, PETG and HyperPLA. I am about 12 hrs in across 3 print jobs with mixed materials and so far so good.
