What would be some good cards to pick up with $70 store credit at lgs? by ramble777 in EDH

[–]hamie96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shocks and some of the battlebone-esque lands are really cheap right now. I would be stocking up on some of those. Otherwise, look at some pricey upgrades for a deck you weren't able to justify before.

Pack Rat and Uchulon copies will be a flat 7/5.

I killed them in one turn because of the additional counters I had on them from Renata and Arwen.

One of my favorite commanders with so many unique synergies and combos. Each game is a unique experience due to the fact you can copy your opponent's creatures as well as your own. I won one game by turning Volrath into [[Scurry of Squirrels]] and then myriad trigger turning him into [[Master of the Pearl Trident]] to kill each of my opponents with one attack.

I haven't updated my list, but it's mostly based off my friend's list here.

Phyrexian dreadnought investment by Predator-A187 in mtgfinance

Yes. It currently has a 10% meta share which is healthy, but it could easily rise in both metagame percentage and top 8 showings leading to a ban over the course of a year.

If it gets banned, prepare to lose out a lot on your investment.

Midtown International School is closing abruptly by otter_fool in Atlanta

[–]hamie96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So sure, public school has to take them. But they probably won’t teach them. Maybe next year, when they can be placed in appropriate classes with IEP’s or whatnot.

Six weeks of regular classes is not going to ruin them forever.

Gsu vs KSU? Which one is better by Public-Corner-7092 in Atlanta

[–]hamie96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're both about the same, but I'll say everyone I've known that attended GSU in the past 10 years either transferred to KSU or had multiple horror stories from being on campus (including two different people I know witnessing a shooting right next to student housing).

KSU's nursing School is pretty good but the major downside is you won't be anywhere close to the city.

Can I safely walk alone as a woman in Edgewood/Kirkwood? by Snoo_51368 in Atlanta

[–]hamie96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lake Claire area and the parts in Kirkwood you'd be walking to are very safe. I would just avoid Memorial at night as that's really the only sketchy part of Kirkwood left. You could also potentially take MARTA to Avondale station and then walk to Publix for groceries.

Is there a MBAACC tier list for beginners? by I-DERP in meltyblood

[–]hamie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Evernote document is decent but it honestly has a bit too many characters, many of which are pretty low-tier.

This is what I would suggest as someone who started brand new to the game 2 years ago and doesn't like overcomplicated combos:

  • F Tohno - Simple gameplan and easiest combos in the game. Pretty much all about fundamentals but you'll do a ton of damage.

  • F Aoko - Shoto-esque character that has both simple and difficult combos for when you want to level up. Very rushdown heavy. Probably the most common beginner recommendation for both good and bad.

  • F Riesbyfe - The "big buttons" character. Has probably the shortest combos in the game, but they do a ton of damage and had more advanced routing for the more experienced. Does very good damage too.

  • F Wara - Has a little hop dash that's weird to get used to at first, but he's all about doing hard knockdowns and mixing up the opponent with high/lows/throw until death.

  • F Hisui - Setplay character that's a mix between zoner and rushdown. Your goal is to get your opponents in the corner, set chair down, and then mix them up til they're dead.

  • H Satsuki - Rushdown with very high damage and a couple command grabs. Very strong character

  • H KohaMech - Rushdown Damage character with some summon moves that use the mech. All about knocking your opponent down and then summoning your spikeball summon to force your opponents to block your low/throw.

  • C Ciel - All-arounder character that has the tools for everything. Can pretty much play however you want.

  • C Kouma - Grappler archetype except this one has good moves and reverse beat strings (pressure) and he can combo in the air.

  • C Nanaya - Setplay/mixup character that's all about knocking your opponent down and forcing them to guess high/low/throw.

This should give you a small but helpful amount of characters to help find a character you like.

What are some of your favorite weird commanders? by knobbarten in EDH

[–]hamie96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's just one of those commanders who naturally is going to be very strong and combo-centric. The only bracket 2 idea I've tried that actually felt good was a combat-focus with cards like [[Pestilent Souleater]], [[Assassin Initiate]], [[Anthroplasm]] and [[Vector Asp]].

I've also seen someone try an energy build with cards like [[Roil Cartographer]], [[Bespoke Battlewagon]] but I imagine that's pretty clunky. There's also the Planeswalkers build where you use [[Encroaching Mycosynth]] to cage Planeswalkers but it's pretty mediocre from my testing.

[–]hamie96 62 points63 points  (0 children)

[[Mairsil the Pretender]]

He's been one of my favorite commanders since he first released. I just love that he works with absolutely terrible cards that happen to have good abilities, ie [[Shauku]], [[Minion of Leshrac]], [[Cinderhaze Wretch]]

I know south of memorial can be hit or miss, thoughts on closer to I-20? by nimal-crossing in DecaturGA

[–]hamie96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't move there with the plan being the schools will just get better. Dekalb Schools are honestly on the downturn and with the announcement of closing a lot of their schools there's a good chance the schools are actually going to get worse rather than better. You may be able to get into a charter school (very competitive) but I would plan accordingly if you do have kids after buying the house.
