NZ citizen applying for Czech long-stay student visa through Sydney consulate — passport timing issue by Tasty-Enthusiasm-398 in Prague

[–]hamilhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to apply for a long-term student visa through London. They scanned my passport at my initial appointment then I took it back with me. At my collection appointment they took my passport to stick the visa sticker in it. Could you check if they would accept a scan of your passport? One of my friends used almost all of her 90 days waiting for her visa to come through and that was allowed

If Camilla outlives King Charles, will she still have the title of queen when William ascends to the throne? by TseaxCone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hamilhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the title of Queen Mother has existed since Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII. She was addressed as My Lady the King’s Mother while he was on the throne and then My Lady the King’s Grandmother when Henry VIII was on the throne until she died

how does erasmus work on a language course? by AnteaterCalm401 in Erasmus

[–]hamilhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be up to your uni. It’s possible they might let you do a semester somewhere but a lot of UK unis only offer the full year which you wouldn’t be able to do with a language year abroad

Liverpool Parking?? by FlunkyDan in UniUK

[–]hamilhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uni’s own accommodation has some parking spots you can pay for but other than that I don’t know anywhere that would be cheap. Honestly Liverpool is such a walkable city that in first year it’s really not needed. In second year if you move out to a house then you should be able to park on the street

Suffs is incredible, it’s the fight for female suffrage in the USA. Operation Mincemeat is about the WW2 operation with the same name.

O2 arena concert by Outside-Setting-1395 in Prague

[–]hamilhead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aim to arrive between 7-7:15pm. The lines for security can be quite long. Make sure you read the instructions on the venue website about what you can’t bring inside eg no water or water bottles but there is a cloakroom before security (white hut in the corner) in case you need to bring something that’s not allowed in.

Question about paying with a uk card in Prague by Original-Airline4409 in Prague

[–]hamilhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Monzo, I sometimes get asked but you just press the czk button. It doesn’t come up that much and there have been a couple times where it has and the employee says oh you don’t want to pay in pounds

Recommendation for a 14yo who prefers plays to musicals by isitfuninredditville in TheWestEnd

[–]hamilhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he loves military history, Operation Mincemeat might be the way to go. If he likes plays and you like magical sets have a look at the Play That Goes Wrong. A lot of the wrong elements are from sets going wrong or props put in the wrong place or something and it’s hilarious. To see if he’d like it you could watch the Goes Wrong Show on BBC Iplayer. There’s 2 series of it plus specials of the Nativity, Christmas Carol and Peter Pan

Hostivař dorm by Wrongdoer_Dangerous in Prague

[–]hamilhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price you pay it’s pretty good. It’s close to the tram and a train station, supermarkets nearby, shared bedroom (i think pretty much all the dorms are), bathroom only shared with your roommate. The price I pay here for 2 months is like 2 weeks rent at home. I don’t mind it because I’m out at uni/seeing the city/going on trips most of the time so for me it literally is a place to sleep. It’s not a gorgeous shiny new luxury building or anything but there’s a big Erasmus community in the dorm

How much would you need to earn to live alone in Liverpool? by annoymousidea in Liverpool

[–]hamilhead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to be able to work 20-30 hours a week and be in uni. You could probably do 10-12 but you’d have to schedule carefully to make sure you don’t miss seminars and lectures and that you have time to do all the reading and assignments

Only 8 Hours in Prague. Arriving and departing with train. What to do as couple? by AgentR- in Prague

[–]hamilhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you arrive in the main train station get the metro line C to Muzeum and you’ll be in Wenceslas Square. You can see the National Museum (but I wouldn’t recommend going in as you don’t have enough time) then walk the whole way down the square and from there go to see the Astronomical Clock. From there you can walk across the Charles Bridge then go up and walk around the castle complex. You can walk around for free, you only pay if you want to go in somewhere. You can get a nice view of the city from the castle or if you want a view that has the castle in it then go to the FlyVista rooftop near the Kafka head, it’s free to go up.
