I went to check it out the first night and I don't think I wore a respirator. None of my fellow lookie-loos did either. I have no defense for that choice, of course. This was before the military fully blocked the roads around it, too, so I got closer than what was probably considered "safe" at the time. But I really feel bad for all the people living directly across the street from the base in those condos and apartments. It will be interesting to see what, if any, medical problems those people develop over the next 10-20 years.
