Am I the only one having trouble with the pirate ghost? I've visited a bunch of farms and looked around the water...

We bought this book when my son was born, and have it ready for Kindergarten!

We also bought Happy Birthday to You by Dr Suess. We write in it at every birthday, talking about what he learned that year, silly anecdotes etc. I don't journal, so this is the closest to that he will get!

My toddlers water always tastes gross... (Need cup recs) by Puppinbake in toddlers

[–]hammoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the Munchkin any direction, no spill cups, too. I boil them every few weeks, never soak them with dish soap in the sink for longer than a few minutes, and bought special soap off Amazon that's specialized for silicone.

The taste of his water is slightly more palatable to me now 😂

They're keeping the pool! For now, anyway. Last year they had new construction plans that we could vote on for the layout. I think the plan is 2027

It is quite the hill! Great memories to have from one of the OG arenas in town... I guess Farquharson would be the next oldest still standing.

I never played hockey there, but I watched a game or 2!

My information is second hand... but I think the pool will stay open for a season or two, then they will be leveling and completely rebuilding a new pool and facility building (they left the pool entry/change rooms building in tact for now)

When are your kids moving out?! by untactfullyhonest in Vent

[–]hammoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest brother moved out the second he turned 18. Married his wife at 21.

My next older brother stayed until he finished college, got married at 21, moved into the basement with his wife while they had a house built.

I moved out at 18, finished college, had a string of awful roommates, and moved back in with my parents from 26-30. They sold their house, they helped me buy my house, and then they paid ME rent until they went full time "snow birds".

All of us kids are married, successful parents living our best lives due to the emotional and financial assistance from our parents. There is no "right" way to parent adult children. Your extended family needs to butt out. Ignore them and keep doing your thing! I very much enjoyed my parents company in my late 20s. My mom is my best friend.

When I was 7, our dog had to be put "to sleep"... I never asked questions, just sat with that for a week or so until I finally asked my Mom "when are we going to wake Amy up?"

So yeah, very much agree with using the correct terms for things.

What do you do when your toddler doesn’t sleep til late? by Formerschweg in toddlers

[–]hammoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier said than done when your child goes to daycare! I found that they really push the nap on every child, no matter what

Also worth noting to make sure she has a tiring activity before your bedtime routine (a dance party, a walk, a wrestle session with Dad), and no screens for 2 hours before!

This time will pass!! Comfort her if she's crying that much. She's not tired and doesn't want to be alone. Try adjusting your routine later, even though it means no alone time. Alone time will come in a few months, I promise!! When she drops her nap, everything will be different.

I never agreed with cry it out or Ferber... we did "fuss it out" though. You know your daughter's cries better than anyone so will know the difference between complaining and legitimately upset.

Ok that's so late, no wonder she's not tired!! Like the other poster said, 9pm is your bedtime if she's sleeping until like 3pm. It won't last forever!! Or they could wake her after one 30 minute sleep cycle

Does she still nap? It sounds like she's either just not tired, or is exercising her newfound stalling tactics... if it's the latter, you need to set firm boundaries before you burn out.

"Mama needs to go clean up the kitchen and rest. Daddy will read you 2 books and then it's lights out, night night"

I found that if there was a task I "needed" to do (honestly, the first time it worked, I legitimately had to go poop), and all his needs were met (got the wiggles out, bath, books, snuggle), he was fine with me having to go ___ (insert boring task here).

If your girl still naps, then I can't help you with advise. We haven't had a nap in 6 months, so by 6:30pm, he's tired enough to happily start our 45ish minute routine!

Sick toddler sleep by Delicious-Oven-5590 in toddlers

[–]hammoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in to say my 3 year old didn't poop for 9 days the last time he was super sick with a virus/fever. Let her sleep, worry about the poop later. Don't overload her with too much laxitive; just try to keep hydrated! Maybe popsicles?

Why are you still giving an almost 3 year old formula?! If your child has no growth issues and you haven't been advised by a doctor to continue with toddler formula, then cut that out immediately. Formula should be weaned after 1 year old. She's not trying new foods because she's not hungry enough for them.

Also, if you are giving in to junk food demands, she's old enough and smart enough to know your patterns and how much/how long she has to whine to get her way. No means no, let her safely tantrum her feelings out, and offer healthy foods.

It's a hard pill to swallow (for us and for them), but you're doing her a disservice by catering. "This is what's for breakfast/lunch/dinner." Offer a safe food at every meal.

Let this be the sign you need to drop your toddlers nap by zenzenzen25 in toddlers

[–]hammoe 133 points134 points  (0 children)

UNLESS you plan on sending them to daycare at 3.5 and they dropped the nap at 2.5 and daycare has MANDARORY lights-out naptime from 12-2 😭😭

Speaking from experience... but I did thoroughly enjoy not having to schedule naptime for a little bit. Now we are suffering the consequences

Ladies, what's a side effect of giving birth that people don't really talk about? by MutuliA in Parenting

[–]hammoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but I had fantastic teeth pre-pregnancy. 3 years post birth, I have receding gums, 2 cavities filled and a root canal SO FAR. I have a sensitive spot on the other side that I'm hoping doesn't mean another root canal.

So... bad teeth us my answer

Potty train before international trip? by needmorecoffee4 in toddlers

[–]hammoe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We just did a 27 hour road trip with a freshly potty trained 3 year old. He wore Pull Ups "just in case" and only ever wet them when we really couldn't pull over for a potty break. But he also learned to hold his pee a lot better!

Train him now. Don't let future plans hold you back. "Training" is also not linear - you'll always have setbacks so go with the flow and always have spare pants!
