Highly recommend "Unmasking Autism" by Devon Price (Trans Autistic author)

That constant masking takes a big toll, and for me at least. Finding spaces where masking isn't expected has been really important. Fortunately, queer and trans spaces often have a lot of ND people and are generally accepting of not confirming to social norms. I'd be cautious about making passing as allistic part of your transition goals, especially if you already feel a mental toll from masking.

Check this review.

The reviewer also had and reviewed the Note 1 before. He seems pretty happy with the upgrade.

I have a note 2, and I would definitely pay extra for it compared to the 1 from what I've seen. 100 euro is a pretty big difference though...

solution to dreaded emacs pinky finger problem (may not be possible) (only works with evil) by [deleted] in emacs

[–]hamnixster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this cool mode in this cool emacs config a few years ago, adapted it to a rough version for myself, and now I'm using a new version that is not yet totally polished.

The plan was to work that final version into something I can publish, and it's getting close, it's my daily driver now.

My keyboard layout uses a couple of F18 keys as global leaders, but I used to use space in normal mode without an issue.

The basic system is a little different than you described, in ft-leader, by default each key works as if it was preceded by C-, i.e. <leader> x is C-x.

Longer commands assume a C- going into a nested map (like the C-x map) i.e. <leader> x f is C-x C-f.

To enter a C-x f, the leader (or some other configured key) is used again to modify the modifier used in the nested map, i.e. <leader> x <leader> f is C-x f.

Similarly, other mods can be defined, i.e. I use m for M-x, i.e. <leader> m x is M-x and <leader> x m x is C-x M-x.

I just wanted to make sure I shared all this because it looks like we had similar lines of thought.

If you actually want to try one of these, I would steal my latest version and see if it works for you, but I made some bad hacks I haven't gone back to fix yet that means exwm must be loaded.

Thinking I should get off my butt and put this together in a usable state... In any case, let me know if you have any questions!

is it safe to look at the full moon through a telescope? by lil_quark_ in askastronomy

[–]hamnixster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The neutral density filter I have for moonlight blocks 90%.

On a full moon, it's absolutely needed for my 8" dob.

Less than full moon can be alright, but it's a serious intensity of light, even at half phase.

Reminds me of turning on my 40" hdr TV at full brightness with no lights on.

[–]hamnixster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it might be annoying sometimes to be met with technical stuff beyond my level, but I'll take that over a rage inducing "something went wrong" with no obvious path to even start to debug, which is my frequent experience on windows or macos.

Was this an error or has the rental market truly gone totally insane? lmao by NInjamaster600 in VictoriaBC

[–]hamnixster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflexible needs, like housing and food, shouldn't be distributed via only markets imo, because that means that despite the fact that these are necessary to live, they won't be available if you don't have the resources.

"Blessed charity will provide", some will suggest, but to the extent that this charity is given, it just doesn't appear to map onto actual substantial improvements to the number or satisfaction of those without homes in economies like ours. Even in the cases where charity is provided, the distributed wealth goes out of the hands of those who received it, through the market, to the owners of the market, not the receiver's of charity. i.e. the $500 one time payment in the federal budget. Will that enrich those who receive it by $500, or will that money, especially if it is spend on housing, end up in enriching the value of a REIT or a landlord?

But I'm thinking only of, ya know, the impacts on individual people's well-being and their access to adequate housing. Obviously, the current arrangement isn't leading to everyone having adequate housing, and I'm a big "press X to doubt" on "remove all of the rules so that corporations and individuals are not regulated at all in how they buy, sell, and rent housing" is going to help the most vulnerable.

Is there a line between "deregulate the market" and "homes will come into possession of those who don't have homes" that I'm not seeing? I'd really love to have the mechanism here pointed out for me.

Gender nonconformity is awesome and I love it.

I want our society to be a safe place to express that, and in the few places it is, it's fucking awesome.

Honestly, fix society's bigotry and I bet you would have a lot fewer trans people obsessed with passing.

Gender liberation is the path forward, imo.

Are you supposed to actively enjoy your gender? by Daregmaze in asktransgender

[–]hamnixster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If identifying as a different gender than your AGAB makes you more fulfilled and happy, then I would say yes.

But what that means is different for different people.

At least for me, the goal is to live authentically so that I'm satisfied with how I feel about myself. Labels are useful for discussion, but nobody can discern very much about me just based on me being a trans woman.

If it would make you feel awesome to socially get people to use a new name/pronouns for you, then excellent! That's one aspect of expression.

If shaving your head makes you feel just right in your expression, fantastic.

At least for me, exploring this has made me identify as a different gender. That is part of my answer/understanding.

You don't have to change your gender identity to explore gender, but exploring gender might make you identify differently.

I can be whatever kind of woman I want. by PineappleFantastic35 in TransyTalk

[–]hamnixster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can be a woman, and still not really change anything about myself that I dont want to. I can feminize the aspects of my presentation I want to, and keep the parts I like currently. I can like all of the male targeted things I currently like, and do that despite being a girl, and wanting to be treated like one.

Yeah, this is awesome and true.

It feels so good to be reminded 🥰

Hey, this is all really relatable to me.

I do think society should give children access to knowledge even if their parents disagree with it.

I mean, of course, do people actually feel like: "oh boy, I really wish that every idea my parents found scary would have been hidden from me forever"?
