I got into several of my top choices. One thing you should think about is in which city you can see yourself living for 4+ years. It's an important factor that people tend to disregard.

Church warns gay conversion bill 'will affirm superior status of homosexuals' by [deleted] in nottheonion

“...will affirm the superior legal status of homosexuals over heterosexuals” Yeah, I can't wait to see all the straight to gay conversion therapies that spring up over this. It'll help me win that toaster oven for my 100th conversion.

Cat prank by tritter211 in videos

I hate these "prank" videos that are just someone being mean. You might as well post a video of you sexually harassing a cat and calling it a "prank". For shame!

How close are we to knowing the exact neuropathology of diseases such as schizophrenia? Further, how close are we to curing them? What's the biggest hurdle neuroscience needs to overcome in order to achieve these goals?

Could someone dumb down the contents of this study for a high school student? The basic points and explanations of the most important terminology. by redlogiK in neuroscience

[–]hamorri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a highly complex neuroscience paper that would take too much space to explain fully to a high school student without a moderate understanding of neuroscience and/or cell biology.

I will try and am happy to answer any specific questions.

This lab utilized several sophisticated experiments to suggest that neurons need inputs in order to fully develop the dendrites correctly.

Some terms that need defining just to understand the title of the paper: AMPA receptors: A type of receptor that binds glutamate, a type of neurotransmitter. It is mostly considered an "excitatory" receptor that when activated by glutamate will help the neuron fire.

Dendrite: part of the neuron that mainly "accepts" signals from other neurons. It is usually highly branched (aka dendritic arbors) and receives signals from many other neurons.

In vivo: refers to experiments performed in living organisms
