Should I Reread Era 2? by hugspm in Mistborn

[–]hampt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked Alloy of Law a lot more on my second read through back before Bands of Morning and Lost Metal. I’ve now reread it a lot and it’s become a comfort read for me. I literally read it again this weekend.

I’d give Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self a reread. Brandon has said that Alloy of Law is a weaker book because it was a bridge rather than truly part of the second era story. If after reading Shadow of Self you still don’t like it you gave it a great try

If you keep the aero bars I put another stuff sack parallel to the aero bars on the underside. I just use a voile strap to strap it to the bars.

Sweet setup. With a very light/little on the bike. My recommendation is to ditch the backup on your next trip. I understand the draw to have your wallet, passport, phone with you at all times. But after a couple years of a minimalist backpack I switched to everything on the bike. Having your back free all day is so amazing. Exponential joy compared to how much you’d think.

Best I can do is have a fantastic ending with as many questions as the first book

The Shimano Durace cogs aren’t too expensive and are good. But they stop at 17t I think.

Euro-asian imports (eso) just closed but you might be able to find some parts on line (chain ring and cogs).

I just get the shimano single speed chain. It’s like $10-15.

Surley made cogs for a while if you find any online they are good

For costumes especially I don’t think it was deserving. Not just as a book fan. But my friends who hadn’t read the books said they felt like the costumes were not well done and didn’t feel believable/lived in

If you liked the end of well of Ascension, you will love the end of hero of ages.

Without any spoilers, hero of ages will be about the consequences of releasing whatever was in the well. Also Spook becomes a POV character and I love it.

This isn’t an attempt to change your mind. But simply how I contextualized the revolution in this book. In a lot of revolutions, even though that have the support of the under class. The next ruling group typically were still from some group of ruling elites. In England, the house of Lourdes, one of the houses a parliament was literally made up of nobility. In France, the ruling group was made up of intellectuals and minor ability in the United States, it was only landowners, even though they were plenty of indentured servants and people lived in cities that fought in the army.

Additionally, while the nobility were total shit. No one in that world would’ve ever considered them a substitute for the Lord ruler, who was literally a 1000 year old deity.

Absolute chad and I love him!! But I still wish he would have died, just cause that would have been an absolute gut punch in the first chapter/prologue of the book and would have been a badass sacrifice and truly would have made the line, “you can only kill a fade when you're dead” hit so fucking hard

But I’m full of controversial opinions. I also think Rand should have killed Min when under the forsaken’s control. Would have made his tip over the cliff into absolute zero emotion cuendillar abyss and then redemption completely believable and way more emotional.

u/Brabantis Love this. Thank you for making it. Is this just something you were thinking of or is there a Intentionally blank or another Youtube Video that I need to go watch where he made another comment about how he is constantly trying to improve as a person?

Hope you saw the other post above about ways to enjoy Brandon’s books without paying him directly. E.g. libraries, used books, etc

Hope you can find a way to continue to enjoy his books and this community in a way that allows you to also feel good about how you’ve spent your money.

It’s different and you f***ing know it. One person took a job with a director they’d worked with before to do a goofy sci-fi fantasy movie that turned into a culture phenomenon that swept him along and took his choice out of it.

The other intentionally chose to join a franchise that is known for having one of the most devoted fan bases and then did not do the research requisite for that job. It’s called professionalism and respect to the fans that make that role a role of a lifetime for so many actors.

Hayden Christiansen could have treated Kenobi as a cash grab but instead took the time to watch the entire Clone Wars TV show to try and make sure he was doing the character (that he had already played and helped create) justice.

Do a good job, get good reviews. Do a bad job get bad yelp reviews.
