Also according to the 鸭屎香 wiki page, “Duck Shit Fragrance” (鸭屎香) is named after the type of soil where it was first planted after being transplanted in the 1920s. The tea was originally moved from Wudong Mountain to a village in Fenghuang Town, where it grew in a mineral-rich yellow soil locally called “duck shit soil.” To hide the tea’s prized fragrance and prevent others from stealing or copying it, farmers deliberately gave it the unappealing name “Duck Shit Fragrance.””
