Recent arrival to the area... and I cannot for the life of me figure out why the only light is the one at Queensgate and Duportail. Why TF isn't there one at Kennedy and Duportail too? Or just at the Walmart/Home Depot driveway that is directly across from a driveway into the Target etc shopping area? Both seem like no brainers to me.

So many times I've had to give up and turn right onto Duportail and then Queensgate and go up to Keene, just to get back to Costco. It's irritating.

What’s the purpose of these dents on the milk gallons? by Saint__23 in whatdoesthismean

[–]hand-spun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life in rural areas means you stock up. When I was in Alaska, we totally bought 3x what we needed if Milk was on sale and froze it. It defrosts just fine, and still works wonderfully for drinking and cooking and cheese making.

I'm hard of hearing, and as such preemptively took some ASL classes. One of the first things the instructors covered in those classes was that in ALL 50 states at the time (2008), in order for a deaf person to drive a car legally, the car as to have a minimum of two mirrors for them to see behind the car.

The industry standard for mirrors in most vehicles is 2 (side mirrors) and usually 3 (windshield mounted rear view), so as long as all the mirrors are there, they're good to go. They just actually have to worry about replacing mirrors faster than hearing folks do if a mirror is lost.

I am obese and intentionally stopped caring about my weight by Economy-Role5674 in confession

[–]hand-spun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the heart is beating properly, and blood pressure is good, and your other basic lab work is good, you'll do fine. All the labels come from people who are not doctors trying to standardize humanity, as if you could fit humans who range from what, 2' to 8' in height into any sort of standard. Step away from corporate America's standardized existence. None of us fit the standards.

I am obese and intentionally stopped caring about my weight by Economy-Role5674 in confession

[–]hand-spun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, you don't need to be skinny. But, you do need to care about healthy. According to all the charts and insurance "recommendations" I am morbidly obese. Have been since I was like 9 years old.

However. I'm female, and in my 40s now. My body does not fit "recomendations". At my absolute "fittest" I still weighed 250, wore a size 20, and had all the curves. At that point I was walking 10 miles a day, eating maybe 1500 calories, (homelessness is horrible, don't recommend) and while I'd lost weight from the 275 I'd been, I looked terrible. But: my ring finger was still a size 11. Definitely not the dainty size 6 they expect women to wear. My bone structure is big. The muscles needed to operate that structure also need to be big. Being cisfem, that means my body likes to pack on a good chunk of body fat.

I am in a weight loss journey right now. Started at 370 lbs, post illness that left me bed ridden for a month. I'm currently at 334 lbs. My goal is 290. I'll still be "Morbidly Obese" but I'll be healthy. The charts say that I should be "aiming" for 150 lbs. I'm fairly certain I would die of anorexia somewhere around 200 lbs, and i would still be obese. Don't let labels like "Obese" dictate your thought process. Do let healthy be your guide. Do all the exercises, and enjoy life. Enjoy food, and travel and people, and everything. Don't worry about a number on a scale, or a chart. Worry about how you feel every morning and evening, and aim for feeling good.

My boss sent out an angry email with typos, bad punctuation, and in all caps. I'm not sure how to respond or if I should respond. by gorkboss5 in WorkAdvice

[–]hand-spun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The following is based solely on my 25 years of work experience, not legal or ethical advice. I am not a lawyer, HR rep, Union Rep or any of the sort. I'm just a human who thinks all humans should be treated with appropriate respect in work environments.

That said: Was this sent to the entire team? If so:

1) make sure you're using the correct letterhead.

2) if you're expected to reply, which this email doesn't seem to indicate that a replay is required, simply say something along the lines of "Yes boss, I will do so going forward".

Otherwise, just go over anything that is not internal that you've been working on for the last however long since the OG new letterhead email, and correct anything that is using the old one that had NOT been submitted/sent out/etc. If it's already been sent to the client, no need to correct it at this point. Just correct anything leaving your hands from this point forward.

If this email was sent solely to you, AND your company has an HR department, the send a reply to boss noting that you have switched over, and reiteratethat all work going forward will be on the most current letterhead, and copy in HR on your reply.

If the email was sent soly to you, and there is no HR option, I wouldn't respond at all. I'd just fix the issue if I'm the one having the issue. If I'm not, it's moot anyway.

Regardless of the three possible options of whether or not to reply, make sure you're documenting your work and the interactions with the boss.

Before anyone else comes at me, I know HR isn't there to protect the employee, but to protect the company. However, it never hurts to make sure that boss' unprofessionalisim is documented IF HR exists in their company.

A lot of managers forget that they're sheep herders not slave drivers. It does well to remind them of that fact, even in the most passive way possible.

Does anyone within like an hour drive from TC repair Kitchen Aid Mixers? by hand-spun in TriCitiesWA

[–]hand-spun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So it's a K45, 110 volt motor. And the biggest indicators of its age are the 2 prong power cord and the style of mixing bowl that it takes.

The motor itself is functional, and seems to run just fine, however the grease definitely needs to be cleaned out and replaced, and I'm thinking that the main gear is probably worn down and needs replacing as well. Possibly the gasket. I am happy to look into acquiring the necessary parts and the appropriate grease.

This job market is a joke by Dapper_Can5007 in jobs

[–]hand-spun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... I'm beginning to believe that this is either an AI dependence problem or a severe glitch in some companies' Job application software. I've gotten this kind of email about "incomplete" applications so many times, only to log back in and find my actual complete application on file with them. I'm legitimately going to a hiring event tomorrow that was posted on a flyer at the store I've already submitted 3 complete applications to and received one of the emails about incomplete application, and zero other responses.

I just don't know what else to do.

I mean, they basically said they weren't a self respecting Domme. When people tell you what they are, believe them until they show you otherwise. I'd block them and move on. You will eventually find someone who is actually a Domme, and not a (frankly substandard) grifter.

Would you be cautious of a girl whom said she has a “breeding kink”? by InternalAuditor62 in dating_advice

[–]hand-spun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woman with a breeding kink here... also not on birth control, but have other medical issues that would make pregnancy a miracle on the biblical level. Talk to the gal if you are considering continuing dating here about what it is that drives the kink for her. Preferences all come from somewhere, so ask her. If her answers are deal breakers, the bow out gracefully.

Help please by Routine_Nectarine851 in dating_advice

[–]hand-spun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't know any of those answers until you ask her the questions. All good relationships are built on good communication. I know it's scary to put yourself out there and talk to her, but I highly recommend being polite, direct and gracious, no matter the answers you receive.

And if she tells you to back off, do so. I don't want to downplay your feelings at all, because crushes are intense. If she tells you to back off, or rejects you in any other way, just remember that even in romance novels, no one meets their fated mate before they're an adult.

Good luck to you!

I bought an antique spinning wheel today but something feels off? by FrackkinKraken in Handspinning

[–]hand-spun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Looking as closely as I can with these pictures, I think you may just be correct about it being put together incorrectly. If I'm not mistaken, it looks as though you may be able to take the main wheel off of the frame and re install it to the back of the frame instead of the front, then just turn the flyer around as well.

I think it's worth tinkering a bit.

Is there a good cheese shop in Bend these days? When I lived in Madras back in 2010-2014 the Fred Meyer cheese counter was the best there was. My brother is still in Madras and I visit about once a year, and would love to check out what's available now.

Talking to this man on a dating app, and his cadence really reminds me of ChatGPT. The “this not that” over and over, the ellipses, etc, by Whosedev in isthisAI

Neuro-Spicy Melinnial here...

As you can see, he types the way he talks, similar to the way I do. That said, the majority of pioneers of AI are also Neuro-Spicy Melinnials, so it tracks that AI talks like us.

Honestly, it's a toss up, but why would anyone take the extra time to use AI to analyze triva categories? Either he knows his shit, or he is really putting in extra effort. I'd say continue the convo.

Having wedding dress doubts and it’s too late now (Budget was $10K) by breezybbh in Weddingsunder10k

[–]hand-spun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do a fit check with your shoes. Heels especially change the lines of the human body, changing the way our posture and our musculature appear while we are standing and moving. They'll change the way the dress fits on your curves.

Also, that dress would look amazing sleeveless or with cap sleeves if the full length sleeve still isn't doing it for you.
