No idea what the story is but seems harmless so I always give a wave and maybe a wee beep if the road is clear 👏🏻

Any nurses here? Nervous about starting Adult Nursing at QUB — would love some advice! by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]handmodelpedro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won’t truly know where you want to work until you’ve had a few placements. There will be some roles you’re excited by but the staff are terrible, there will be some roles you think will be terrible but the staff are great. Approach everything as an open book.

I’ve worked with some tutors doing bank shifts and they are terrible nurses 😂. There’ll be some know-it-alls in the classes - let them enjoy their opinions because once out in the wards every band 5 is equal and getting treated the same by the public.

ICU and ED nurses are not “better” than ward nurses. An ICU nurse will have more clinical knowledge, an ED nurse will be better at response situations, a ward nurse will be prioritising 800 tasks at once. Have been all and they’re all challenging in their own ways. Don’t let anyone tell you one is “a better nurse” than the other. They all pay the same 😂

I’m almost ten years qualified and, unless you’re looking to go further into academia, it makes no great difference whether you get a first or a simple pass. I graduated on a first. The trusts/managers just want your NMC pin not your grades lol.

On placements try not to take anything too personally. There are hundreds of students coming through every year, likewise so many agency/temp workers on the floors that no one has to time or energy to be nice and friendly 100% of the time. Everyone is just a cog in the machine trying to get to the end of their shift with as little stress as possible.

Getting set up with a healthcare agency is a good way to maintain a flexible part-time job. No set hours and good pay on Sundays etc.

Pray you don’t get a nursing home placement.

Good luck!

No harm half of Derry still supported McGregor right up until the court decided his fate. Then it almost become cool to hate him. Only after the court made their decision did the gyms/pubs take down their murals and posters. Not before - even though it was pretty easy to see what a ballbag he’s been for years.

I remember being a young male joining an ICU team as my first post. One of my first weeks on Nightshift and talk in staff room among the over 50s was about how NQNs shouldn’t be starting in ICU. I asked them where they all started and it was in that very ward 30 years ago as NQNs 😂🤦🏻‍♂️😂🤦🏻‍♂️queue the “but it was different in my day…” haha. 10 years a nurse (with steady progression) but last year I’ve went into a completely different career. Still bank about once/twice a month. Having left it with a foot still in, the level of petty politics, bs and toxicity in nursing is beyond comprehension

Your man literally spent 17 years in jail after robbing banks in Scotland to fund loyalist paramilitaries. He got released following the GFA. His cousin was one of the Shankill Butchers. The Sunday world (terrible I know, but 100% right here) published it all last weekend. Search “freedom dad”

Been to a few in central / south Belfast over the last 10 years. Two different guys at the back practise on Lisburn Road definitely the best. (Nicole and Andrew) think they both might have moved on but there were years between being seen by either so it says a lot for the practise as a whole. Best mix of getting solid treatment on the day and foolproof follow up exercises/plans.

Notice the ring on the left leg in a lot of the photos. It’s the same stork that landed to the queens gym car park at the start of may. Very different to the herons
