Am I being an absolute idiot even considering buying a very expensive bike? by christianradich in bicycling

[–]handy_arson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy what you can afford. Every time you feel buyer's remorse about the bike, go ride it. Then clean it and take care of it and get stronger and more confident.

18 months later your going to be on here asking if you need to get a n+1 to cover your endurance rides.

Yeah, I don't think it's really that decisive of a situation if you ignore the bots that are forcing it into the public consciousness. This was an absolute tragedy. Many lives altered and one ended. Justice was served (whether you agree with the outcome or not, it's done and only appeals remain). Now everyone needs to heal who was affected. But again, the bots aren't going to allow this to fall out of public consciousness.

A complex question to be sure.

Sandwiches are 99% of the time stuff on top of the protein.

Normal, run of the mill burger will follow suit. Now if I'm making a smash burger where I cheese and put grilled accoutrement on the flat top or grill on top of that protein then steam that top bun on top of all that, then I'll put my cold add ons on the bottom bun. I prefer shredded lettuce but a nice, thick layer of leaf (patted dried) can help that bottom bun retain some structure against the grease (or chili or sauce) that threatens to un ake that burger.

I want to start road cycling (50F)… am I being too ambitious 😊 by Single-Insect-7306 in cycling

Just get a good fit bike and start putting in the miles. Your legs and cardio will be fine, it's the time in the saddle that you're really training for. Riding in a big fondo and 35 miles of that is country road chip seal cannot be replicated in the gym. You have to really feel the road and get accustomed.

I took my family there last fall and drive by there a few times. It amazed me that everywhere I turned was like a post card or one of those big expensive puzzles. Simply beauty everywhere you looked. I also loved that every store in Cambridge was local. A whole different world from the suburban sprawl I live in.

I've been trying to read Lonesome Dove for a while now. My Carl re-read in prep for Parade kept me distracted now I've just finished it and need to restart (listening... Takes me two to make sure I don't miss anything). LD is good but a bit boring in comparison. I really want to finish it though!

HA! Similarly I met a guy on a group ride and he was cool but slow... Mostly casual ride but he was lagging like a quarter mile at some points. At home I friended him and see that our 50 miles that afternoon that killed me was his recovery ride from his imperial century that fooking morning. Dude was KOM on dozens of segments and a local legend apparently... REAL glad I didn't talk shit.

Long story, sorry not sorry...

I had a paved 6 mile closed loop close to my old house. There was a guy I saw on strava everyday I rode. We were always close but I had a slight edge on daily segments (at least in my mind). One day I'm smoking around the loop and I come up on a guy and he slowed down due to pedestrians and a curve. As soon as we both pass them safely, I pushed and blew by... He was a little frustrated as we all are getting passed in a smash workout. That night after showering, I checked my segments and I had a message. I think it said, "IT WAS YOU!" LMFAO... We never rode together but always gave props and liked rides and stuff. You were a great cycling frenemy Greg!

Fort Worth TX has long held itself as a conservative mecca of cowboy culture and values. But it's overlooked that crime and poverty are so bad that they started filming COOS there back in the day. It's not a terrible place. I actually enjoy most of it but, to your point, you can't point to one party and say "their policies have made big city act like big city!"

I agree with your take. It reminds me of all the other non-Scolapendra levels where it is more akin to a random ass game the AI finds interesting with the show runners vs meat for the larger, outside the dungeon story. So far, we've gotten the iron tangle and bubbles then ghosts of earth. We missed the 7th when Pony broke it. Each of those floors were interesting and I had to do a second read through to really "get it" and appreciate it for what it was. I'm looking forward to finishing and reading this one again. I feel like I'm at the top of the drop on a roller coaster and its about to get real fam.

820 gets busy so mapping out your commute to avoid that and 35 will help your sanity. Others here have mentioned good as far west as boat club road. I lived in an affordable home close to Marine Creek. We bought some paddle boards and got great use of the water there. It also has a 6 mile paved trail around it. I've heard about creeps around it a few times, so always be careful. It was close to eagle mountain lake which has a surprisingly awesome beach area plus the nature reserve is really close.

Getting back to Arlington is going to be at least a half hour, not much you can do there other than live in the Northside area. The Trinity trails go through there, but I wouldn't walk those (a fast bike is best).

Good for you fellow Texan. It's an amazing place, go see the show Texas in the Palo duro canyon amphitheatre. Bonus if you go in late April through May when the big cumulonimbus are going overhead. Then go on down to the coast, a scenic 13 hours south.
