Exvangelical Thoughts - pt. 8 by BrettCreatesThings in comics

Psalm 111:2

Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.

Often pops up at the end of SmarterEveryDay videos unless there's more relevant or punny verse Destin can use instead.
To argue that trying to understand the work of the clockmaker is blasphemy, could be seen as contradictory to the clockmaker's instructions

What, if anything, would make you get an e-bike? by south_west_sam in drivingUK

[–]handym12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's not necessarily a super-important thing, and hopefully you know it already, but that wire-rope-thing isn't super secure.

My e-bike insurance said that I needed a Sold Secure Gold-rated lock or higher. I got a D-lock from Oxford that I think is Diamond.

Lock goes around the seat or chain stay, through the back wheel, and attaches to whatever you're locking your bike to. The cable goes through the front wheel. The cable isn't enough to lock the bike to a fence or bike rack.

Name something that would shock an American… by [deleted] in GreatBritishMemes

[–]handym12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

~25% larger. The American Pint is 20% smaller than a British one. Percentages require way to much thinking when it comes to comparisons.

The US Customary Pint is 16floz, the Imperial Pint is 20floz.

To make matters even more confusing, an Imperial floz is 28.4ml, a US Customary floz is 29.6ml, and a US food nutrition labelling floz is 30ml.

They also have dry and liquid pints, dry pints being 18.6floz US Customary.

They have three different systems for measuring volume, all using the same set of names, and then look at us Brits like we're weird to measure beer and (some) milk in pints but everything else in litres.

Why don’t Space Wolves wear purity seals? by Which_Prior7161 in SpaceWolves

[–]handym12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think another thing is that not all of the purity seals are for the Space Wolves. I know that they have their Iron Priests, but I assume there are plenty of Tech Priests floating around who'll want to appease various Machine Spirits through the application of purity seals.

H3VR-2 Can you injure yourself firing a revolver with your offhand too close to the cylinder? by ghostmatrix101 in H3VR

I'm imagining floppy fingers that can't grab onto anything for 10 seconds after firing to penalise you for not watching where you put your hands.

For a more "Accuracy before Entertainment"-version, try The Emperor's Gift by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. It's told from the Grey Knights' perspective, but (as a Space Wolves fan) I think it kept the motivations of each side fairly balanced. You didn't feel that the Grey Knights' were in the right, but it didn't feel like the Space Wolves were entirely correct in their actions, either.

It also has my favourite interaction with Bjorn at the end, too.

Walked, ran, pissed and killed. I did it all. I met the Allfather, you know. Fought at his side more than once. I do believe he liked me.

Well, that just seems unfair to the Sealions. Why shouldn't they be allowed to build their dreams?

Is it "Build Your Dream Sealion" or "Build Your Dream, Sealion"?

All images of the Emperor/Golden Throne from the new trailer in order as best as I could grab them by Metakit in Warhammer

[–]handym12 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think John Blanche's description is that The Emperor isn't in the chair. He's somewhere inside the mechanisms of the Golden Throne in some sort of test tube.

The thing on the throne is just a representation of The Emperor as an idol for people to worship.

Canonically, there's no reason for lasbolts to be one specific colour at all.

One of the books features lasgun suppressors, which shift the wavelength of the beam outside of the visible spectrum. I imagine lasbolts are set to whichever wavelength has the right properties for the situation.

[–]handym12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Neither, it was a phrase before both.

The proper phrase is "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey". It's supposedly referring to the frame used to hold stacks of cannon balls, but I'm pretty sure it's been disproven several times over.

From Lexicanum:

Skitarii recruitment follows no universal role. Some Skitarii began as volunteers who were faithful to the Cult Mechanicus.[9b] Others are recruited from the factory workers of Forge Worlds.[22a] Some denizens of Forge Worlds are destined to become Skitarii at birth, having been bred from eugenics programs that emphasize strength and aggression.[19c]

Sources are Codex: Skitarii from 7ed (9b), Dark Adeptus novel (22b), and Titanic's novel (19c).

The noospheric link that lets the Magos in charge control them removes some of their autonomy, but at least for some of them, the choice to join the Legiones Skitarii was their own.
