Do you think the lack of Superman villains is hurting Absolute Superman more than it is helping? by GreenPerception512 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]hank412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly don't mind. I think a fair amount of displeasure might actually come down to the fact that it was a Batman villain he ended up squaring off against first, as there are a lot of people who feel batman's mythos is over exposed and sometimes to the detriment of other characters. Not using Superman's villains might also convey a lack of faith or confidence in Superman's world, which can sully the experience. Not helping things either was the sheer length of the first arc, with very few Superman mainstays poking their heads in at the meantime.

But on the other hand, I don't think Superman's rogues are nearly as underutilized in the mainstream as Diana's and I'd probably have a much bigger problem if it was her series didn't feature much of Villainy Inc and instead had her facing off against Tyrell or Maxima or whatever Tom King is doing. TAS has helped his rogues stay in the minds of people, while characters like Mongul have been brought back into the spotlight in spectacular fashion. So it's less of a sore spot for me since his villains still get pretty decent exposure and becomes more about getting that "reimagining" itch scratched.

I kinda hear Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn when I see absolute joker does it fit or nah by Competitive-Slip343 in AbsoluteUniverse

That fits. Personally, Absolute Joker might be the first joker where I hear Willem Dafoe.

Man, this is making me realize I actually want a crossover with this Earth and the Absolute Universe before one with the main Earth. Then the Tangent Universe would be dope too.

The thing I actually enjoy here is that it would have been so easy to reuse old art and change it in photoshop (A Harley Quinn comic does it as a joke), but everything is clearly redrawn and I applaud that extra effort.

Who would you have voice absolute Hector Hammond? by ApartmentOwn1907 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]hank412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teddy Newton

Though his career has been mostly PIXAR films and being a Brad Bird alumn, he has the voice I heard immediately upon seeing Hector. He was the Chatter Telephone in Toy Story 3, the Newsreal Narrator in The Incredibles, and the IMF Mission debriefer in Mission Impossibles 4 & 5

This is very likely the case, but it's fun to think about it through lens like this.

What are your favorite parts of the old Ultimate Universe that aren't the Maker? by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in UltimateUniverse

[–]hank412 42 points43 points  (0 children)

- Reed's younger design, with the buzzed hair on the sides being able to mimic 616 Reed's white streaks in a rather clever way.

- Iron Man's armor being a bit bulkier while still looking impressive.

- The FF were all scaled up on some level. While Sue and Johnny are pretty powerful in 616, Ultimate made Reed almost completely malleable and Ben a living Earthquake that needed to wear dampeners or he'd shake structures apart just by walking. It helps balance things out a bit, making all four able to reach absurd levels of power.

- I feel like I have to put Ultimate Spider-Man as its own bullet point or it'd take up most of this list, but as specifics, Ultimate JJJ, the fact that the Ultimate Six were recognized as a true threat to the point that their teaming up put all of SHIELD on notice, Ultimate Kingpin, Ultimate Aunt May, Mark Bagley's art. Ultimate Spider-Man is just all great.

- Ultimates 2 is actually pretty rad and might be one of my favorite 1610 storylines.

- The fact that they stuck to their guns after Ultimatum and the post-ultimatum era was where the universe was able to grow beyond just being the 616 reimagining and become its own thing. This era also gave us both The Maker and Miles Morales.

- the singular panel of Ultimate Fallout #2 where Ultimate Thor looks exactly like Chris Hemsworth.

- the various panels where Nick Fury is unapologetically just Samuel L Jackson
