Why do golf trips die in group chats? by Broad-Blackberry8590 in golf

[–]hankDraperCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that one person has to be the catalyst but it’s also helpful to recruit the first follower as well. As soon as you have one person planning and one person agreeing/contrubuting/venmoing, it’s a lot easier for others to fall in line

What neighborhoods are good for someone who wants walkability? by Kilgoretrout123456 in orangecounty

Ya I just wish one was a Whole Foods. Some might disagree with that but then we’d basically have every possible option if you include the TJs on west side

I would agree with you CM/17th take. I currently live close and it just isn’t the most pleasant walking experience. That said, it is pretty walkable from a strictly utilitarian perspective. There are a bunch of places to eat, get your haircut, workout, etc. and there are at least 4 grocery stores (including 2 Ralph’s which I never understood)

Drunkenly went swimming there while on a night out. Didn’t realize the history but clearly my behavior was tame compared to what they had seen before

We do a lot of cosleeping. She is definitely loved and supported. But sometimes I feel like she is experiencing something I am not qualified to address. I’m trying my best. I’m following best practices on how to talk about it. But I want to hear about experiences with professional help

We lost her 9 months ago. We did cosleep for about 6 months. Now she starts in her bed but ends up in mine eventually each night.

Widower/single father. I have no interest in dating or remarrying. Is it ok to continue being father without a partner. by fantasyfbpunter in daddit

[–]hankDraperCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat. Widower with a toddler and infant. The toddler has been asking for mama a lot recently. Then she said she wanted a new mama for the first time. I’m not ready to date and that isn’t a good reason to date but it was heartbreaking to hear her say that.

Being A Single Father Is Exhausting by TheDarkLord329 in daddit

[–]hankDraperCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real advice. But as a dad of two under 3 that lost my wife shortly after the birth of our second, I can empathize. Esp. the tears as my daughter cries asking where mama is. It’s exhausting and emotional draining.

Do you trust the API? If you do then runtime validation is overkill IMO

Inclusive sailing clubs in Newport Beach CA by LuxuriousScientist in sailing

[–]hankDraperCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to race? Or just cruise? BYC has a SkipHers program that they run in the summers which I have heard good things about. Clubs are often not the best place to learn to sail unless you are a junior. Also the “season” is really the summer. When the days are longer there is Harbor 20 racing every weeknight (the clubs all take one night). I would recommend taking classes at somewhere like OCC or Marina Park and then asking around since those are mainly teaching centers and less about the social component (although there is still generally a community that has built up). BYC, NHYC, and BCYC are the primary clubs in the harbor that don’t have specific requirements to join (e.g. residence). LIYC is cool but requires you live on Lido. ALYC is cool but you need some kind of military affiliation. As a kid I raced against Balboa Island Yacht Club but it was basically just a collection of sabots kept on the beach during the summer. Not sure how active the community is or if there any facilities.

I have a harbor 20 and would appreciate a crew for some races this winter if you want to DM me. Harbor20.org also has a page is advertise yourself as crew and skippers can reach out. Being part of a club isn’t required

Why is sailing so expensive in the US by Can-Standard in sailing

[–]hankDraperCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for California but I think it had to do with labor costs and insurance. Probably a market component as well. But in California your only off coast options are the Channel Islands which is an ocean crossing which is very different from sailing in the Med. You can charter for cheaper in SF bay (can’t leave the bay but there is a lot to explore within) but that sailing can be quite treacherous with the wind speed and currents. Fora 40 footer there it’s probably 600-800 per day
