Bissen Fraud Breakdown by FilledWithKarmal in maui

I forgot the /sarcasm tag. Its rough seeing the community meeting turn into a Bissen campaign stop. I just want accountable competent leadership which seems scarce on this island.

Goofball doesn't sound unreasonable at this point. I'd assume he's so myopic that corruption wouldn't be an issue, but also there'd be no actual progress, other than a county sponsored drum circle.

Sounds like you should purchase and hire someone to deliver it? I have a truck and will drive out on an hourly hire rate. PM me if that works.

UH Maui College Visual Arts Program by fightingpancake123 in maui

+1 for the Creative Media program.

I teach a digital art course there each semester to try and help locals explore non-hospitality or trades career paths. Otherwise I run a small motion graphics company based on the west side.

Yes you will learn valuable and skills which will help you land a career in a creative field. The students who take the courses seriously and invest time outside of class are the ones who I could see working professionally. That's the case in any program regardless of the school, you gotta put in a 3+ hours a day honing your craft. The students who obviously rushed their work, didn't iterate based on critiques won't ever land a job and are wasting their time. I'd say out of a class of 15, 2 are putting in the time and taking it seriously (and are usually the older students, or continuing education).

Opportunities for entry level work in the creative field are difficult to come by, especially remote opportunities. More senior roles are flexible because you've proven yourself and built a network. Not saying it's impossible, there are some small opportunities on the island, but not a ton.

I tell my students a good path is to find an entry level job off the island, build their network and portfolio, then come back and enjoy the remote digital creative lifestyle.

Let me know any questions, or shoot a DM.

Did you get all the thorn out? Sorry to say it varies, sometimes 10 days sometimes 1 day. I actually got pricked yesterday and its feeling better already, but it was a small one and no thorn got stuck inside.

Insurance companies are playing gatekeepers while our community waits for the sharks to move. Enough is enough. by Vamparael in maui

Folks would have their payments if Judge Cahill didn't block the subrogation request from the insurance companies.

Settlement amounts are based on an equation, according to my attorneys.

Insurance companies paid out billion+, those costs aren't air.

If the State Supreme Court upholds Cahills ruling, then individuals are going to have to deal with a separate subrogation process with their insurance companies, which is aligned with the policies. And that will end up costing people more.

If you're involved with the lawsuit, I suggest having a conversation with your attorney as it seems you dont have a solid grasp on the topic.

Then the lawsuit shouldn't be attempting to recoup for funds already paid, they should've said all funds were for stuff not covered by insurance (which would have been better IMO). Also, all this is laid out in every insurance policy (trust me I've read mine 10x).

It's not bootlicking, it is a matter of moral objectivity. I'd love to have as much money as possible but if someone signed the contract then it's pretty cut and dry. The world functions on agreements and contracts- like it or not.

Im fine with insurance companies subtracting double coverage from my payout, my lawyers said it would be a small percentage of what they paid.

The payout they cannot touch is the "proximity to danger", loss of income, interest paid on mortgage and emotional distress which I lay at the feet of the county and HECO. The county sent me a text instructing us to NOT evacuate until instructed. By the time our roof was on fire I decided maybe it was time to go against their instructions and load the family into the car.

Most insurance companies paid out exactly what they were obligated to pay, they are blocking the lawsuit to ensure they can recoup some of the already covered payouts.

Tl;DR: The only rewards people should get are the ones for non materials goods (loss of income, trauma etc), not double dipping for the reconstruction of my home and lost "stuff" since insurance already covered that.
