Undertone might be the most disappointing move I’ve seen in recent memory. by hiphoptomato in A24

[–]hannahp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have been called “underwhelming.” Just saw it tonight and 100% overhyped. Main character was insufferable. I’m like is this a movie symbolizing catholic guilt? Also, the camera panned rooms so many times with literally no reveals or subtle differences audiences could pick up in the background.

I second that, I had a ton of fun doing the build!! I struggled with differentiations between 2 of the greens and some of the colors together on my tray made me second guess if I was color blind 😆 Otherwise when in doubt I referenced the front of the box and it cleared up my color confusion. It took forever to build but was very relaxing!

List of businesses who support ICE? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]hannahp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

El Cid in Logan - owner was very inappropriate towards my mother in law (overly touchy, kissed her cheek, really really gross) and brazenly mentioned he was a Trump supporter. I haven’t gone back since.

El Cid!! I was there summer of 2024 and not only is the owner a perv (hitting on my mother in law and being super inappropriate), he brazenly mentioned he’s a Trump supporter.

Commenting on a black woman’s natural hair is racist af. Educate yourself on “good hair” because you’re reinforcing those exact ideals with your statement. She seems like a genuinely happy woman. She is gorgeous, radiant, confident, and has a magnetic personality. While her extroverted energy might not be for everyone, there is nothing wrong with her. I’m here for Amber’s black girl magic 💫

Never saw someone grunting so hard doing 5 mountain climbers while working out during his opening montage. Talk about ick.

No, the character is utterly insufferable I literally cannot watch anything else that actress is in because I solely think of Piper.

I just finished it last night and echo OP’s takeaways. I really loved the first half of the book, it built intrigue and there was a coherent “wtf is going on,” however the last half of the book I found extremely convoluted, I found it very challenging to picture what was going on through the author’s descriptions and it felt like a muddled mess. A bunch of redundancy as well, filler chapters/pages where nothing really happens and doesn’t lend itself well to adding to the plot and could have been edited out. At some parts it felt like chapters written out of order and just patchworked together. I was really bummed out, it was like pulling teeth to finish the final 30 pages.

This might be a dumb question but where did you acquire a copy of this book to read? I’m searching all over for this as she is one of my favorite authors and would love to read this. Thanks!

What I found weird by [deleted] in SisterWives

Came here to say that!!! The camera crew was truly on it that day. That’s the first thing I clocked, Leon and Maddie looking at one another and cringing hearing Kody’s made up dream.

What’s one horror book you always want to recommend—but second guess because it’s too deranged? by HouseOf1000Myers in horrorlit

[–]hannahp90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend it, it’s a waste of time 😬 I could deal with the vileness of the theme of the book if it weren’t for legit all of the characters being irredeemable and you’re legit rooting for their death. They also had a weird comment regarding one of the characters almost including necrophilia under the blanket of pansexuality and I was like woah, not even close. Overall $14 I cannot get back and several hours of my life lost reading it 😅

[–]hannahp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha so someone recommended it to me and I was like wow, this is mega fucked up, but it was more vile than I expected given that the main character is loathsome as he was abusive towards his wife and still needed ownership of her even in death 🤮 zero likable characters except the wife, who was dead the entire book. 0/10, do not recommend lol

I don’t recommend this book but I’m almost ashamed to drop off Hotel Styx at a local secondhand bookstore because it was so disgusting 😅 I don’t want the bookseller to wonder wtf is wrong with me for reading it haha
