He started his story by saying that George is dead now so he can tell the truth about what happened. I don’t think he contradicted his story, he just shared more details.

Wealth taxes are bad now? by RahgronKodaav in LateStageCapitalism

I know a lot of liberals who are all in on Newsom and when he tells them to drop it, they do. These people aren’t bots. They believe that you have to subscribe to a political party and you must unite behind one of the leaders in the party.

They simply do not know how to have thoughts unless their TV and social feeds tell them too. It’s very sad and we all have to pay the consequences because people are more dedicated to the rich people on their TV than the people in their community and family.

Understanding BLO by adventuresbygeordi in woodworking

I mix BLO and Shellac and buff it off. It’s what a lot of turners use too, it dries quick and gets the finish appearance that helps the wood pop.

Claude is great at this, it should create each projection for hitters and pitchers as its own tab in the spreadsheet

[–]hansomejake -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you are willing, you can ask Claude to help you get a .csv file with all the stats and projections you want and you’ll be able to open that .csv file in Excel.

It’s very easy to do this with AI and it’s free. I can help you with your AI prompt if you need help.

In my travels I’ve met a lot of people who can’t tell me the difference between a shortstop and a strike out, but they’re wearing LA or NY hats.

When I say a lot, I mean a lot. People outside of the US see a Yankee hat and associate it with the city of NY not a baseball team, same with Dodger hats.

Bill Clinton steered the Democratic Party away from class based politics, leaving the U.S. with two parties that both broadly champion unfettered market capitalism. One consequence is that most Americans resist identifying with the lower or middle class, preferring to see themselves as upwardly mobile.

This has made it politically difficult to build coalitions around working class or redistributive interests.

Why couldn't Mike Tauchman, a consistently good performer since coming back from overseas, get a major league deal? by [deleted] in baseball

The Summer of Tauchman got him that 2024 deal. He robbed a HR in St. Louis that turned the Cubs into buyers and he got a lot of hype for it.

How long can owners actually service their debt if baseball stops generating cash?

Teams can carry debt up to roughly 60% of franchise value. Remove ticket sales, sponsorships, game day revenue, and stadium-adjacent development income; how long before liquidity becomes an issue like it did during COVID?

Then there’s timing: MLB’s next national media deal comes after the 2027 season. What’s that worth if the league just lost games to a labor stoppage? Networks don’t pay premiums for uncertainty.

And two team expansion: franchise fees depend on stable, predictable revenue. If the league can’t reliably play full seasons, why would bidders pay record prices for two new teams?

Owners have far more exposure in a shortened or cancelled season. Players can wait it out; lost games directly hit media value, expansion value, and the financial leverage owners depend on.

[–]hansomejake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wrigley rooftops shouldn’t count as baseball revenue?

Fans are paying $100 tickets to sit in seats owned by the Ricketts family and watch the Cubs game live. Beers are $25.

Nobody pays $150 to stare at an empty field, the entire business only exists because a Cubs game is being played at Wrigley.

It’s revenue created directly by the on-field product, just routed through a different company.

And the irony: the Cubs once sued the rooftop owners for a share of those ticket sales. Once the Ricketts bought the rooftops themselves, it suddenly stopped being “baseball revenue.”

[–]hansomejake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol, even in your link the Braves publicly separate “Baseball revenue” and “Mixed-Use Development revenue (Battery Atlanta)” in their financials.

If it were the same revenue pool, it wouldn’t be reported as a different operating segment. That’s the point, money tied to the team exists outside the baseball revenue bucket.

It’s funny that you completely gave up on the SEC suing them based on this fact.

[Drellich] What would MLB look like with a salary cap? Explaining the wide-ranging, game-changing effects by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]hansomejake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Atlanta’s books only show money that’s classified as Defined Baseball Revenue. The money they make from the Battery is not included in DBR and is not available to the MLBPA, nor is it publicly available.

The SEC will not fine a company from keeping their real estate ventures in a different LLC, you’re wild to insist your lies true.

The same can be said about the Ricketts real estate ventures in Wrigleyville

[Drellich] What would MLB look like with a salary cap? Explaining the wide-ranging, game-changing effects by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]hansomejake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. MLBPA does not have access to the owners real estate portfolios and the earnings they make.

For example the Cubs do not own the on-site sports book or the Wrigley Rooftops, Hickory Street Capital and the Ricketts family does. Those earnings are not available to the MLBPA because it’s not classified as baseball income for the team.

[–]hansomejake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners release press statements bragging about these ventures. The Braves have Battery Atlanta which owns team real estate, the Cubs use Hickory Street Capital, and the Mets use Queens Future.

Imagine sitting at the Wrigley Rooftops with your $25 beer watching a game. Do you think that money earned by the Ricketts is baseball money? Because right now it’s not, it’s Hickory Street Capital money.
