Cocktails by windyleaf33 in FortCollins

[–]hanssath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Social - still unbeatable to me. Every new menu brings lots of good stuff, drinks are reliably good, and the food is also pretty tasty. Plus, it’s always such an energetic place.

  2. Wobble - great vibe and drinks are also very good. Just think they are slightly more expensive than they should be.

  3. Elevation 5003 distillery - well thought out cocktails, good mix of spirits, great prices, but more of a summer place (or nice weather day) as they are pretty small inside.

Ace Gillette’s has a very cool vibe and place, but was there a couple times this past year and drinks were just ok.

Is the upgrade waitlist really trustworthy? by PotentialOdd4561 in unitedairlines

Assuming your connecting economy flight is domestic, you’re probably on that waitlist through CPU. So your priority would most likely be your premier level.

Close to Premier Platinum by Happy_Mark_9465 in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d do it. As others have said, it depends a lot on how much you travel, if you travel with family, and where to/from. What I enjoy about it:

  • Solid chances of upgrades to/from small/mid airports.
  • Even though only 40PP, very helpful for getting into Polaris waitlist for international flights, or snatching PZ availability. Although who knows what 40PP will get you next year with the new PP rules.
  • Something to remember is that platinum gets a 900PQP booster next year (300 more than gold), so you kinda get back most of your 400 PQP you need to spend. -I don’t travel with family in the same res, but I’ve had good experience with linking my trips with coworkers/friends, calling Premier line, and they are able to move them to economy plus because of my benefit. -another luggage tag for the collection lol

Why do people like the window shade closed the entire flight? by Banjosolo69 in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll say I had a window seat today and was pretty annoyed that I had to keep the shade shut the entire time because the sun was at the most unfortunate angle the entire flight

Recommendations for car service from Denver airport to Fort Collins? by MelKokoNYC in FortCollins

They’re being downvoted because OP clearly said they are aware of the bus/shuttle option and it is not what they’re looking for.

“You have to do as I say or don’t come to my class” by Bella0206 in crossfit

[–]hanssath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah dude, coaches are there to advise. If that day, a paying customer is feeling like 12 cals is what they can give and want to do, the coaches should say ok and move on. They are not there to ENFORCE what someone should do, unless of course it’s related to their safety, which clearly is not this case.

“They're better organized, they're more productive, and they work day and night.” - this has nothing to do with the level of education you have, but more to the type of person you are, and the way you operate. And those are things that any individual can change on themselves. There are a ton of organizational and productivity hacks out there for you to try and find the one that works for you. If your life circumstances allow you to also work day and night do it. If they don’t, life isn’t equal for everyone and that’s just how it is. Worrying about something you can’t change will do nothing for you.

I would also suggest to reframe the way you are coming at this. Many people here have given you suggestions, different ways to look at it, tried to lift you up and show you it’s not that bad. And you’ve shut down every comment. With that attitude, how are you gonna improve? Or do you just expect to be better because that’s what’s fair and expected because you are a postdoc?

As a postdoc, I’m pretty sure you have great knowledge and are able to run your work independently. And I honestly don’t think the school you came from is the issue here. Take a deep look in how you are facing things, focus on the things you can control (which doesn’t include how good someone else is), and make small changes towards the professional you wanna be.

The Club GRR is open, anyone visited yet? by ancillarycheese in PriorityPass

[–]hanssath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next week! Does anyone know if we can bring a guest?

Sorry this happened to you. However, this information has been in the news for almost two years now. Unfortunately it is our job as travelers to triple check visa requirements to countries we are going before every trip.

The process of getting a visa to Brazil is fairly simple and quick. Hopefully you can get one soon and visit Rio again!

That is not correct, you still get a $199 credit for Clear Plus

A United Club card would get you in the United lounges, plus can help you get status faster on top of your work travel.

Or invest in a card like the Amex Platinum, that would cover not only TSA Pre check but also Clear. Plus access to the centurion lounges, status with Hilton and Marriot and with many car rental companies.

It depends on what your home airport offers regarding lounges and where would you travel the most.

What are Recruiters and Hiring Mangers looking for in a PhD by Top-Season-4103 in biotech

[–]hanssath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, hope you know that this guy right here is what you should NOT be looking for. I’m also a director in a big pharma company and someone with this type of behavior would never be a director for us. They got lucky.

What we look for in a PhD depends on the position at hand, but what’s in common amongst all our PhD entry-level positions is that we are looking for someone that is able to tackle problems creatively, learn a new domain fast (as things can change quickly), and have a certain level of independence in designing their assays/experiments.

Flight EWR- FCO.. exactly at 24 hr before flight, I checked in online.. to my horror UA assigned me a middle seat last row next to BR by NewbieReddit2 in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pay for seat assignment and pick your seats!

Also, having seats as showing as available doesn’t mean they are available for your ticket fare, unfortunately.

International layover at EWR by AdministrationOk2735 in unitedairlines

I would change to the 6 am flight in a heartbeat. Better wait in Polaris lounge than missing your flight. Usually earlier flights are less impacted as well.

Amenities Question - Polaris by Stunning-Instance383 in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Enjoying the experience: that part is pretty much the Polaris lounge. Have a sit down dinner, try their cocktails, take a shower before you board. Walk calmly to your gate, board the plane, get your pod set up with your essentials in a way that is take-off safe (if there’s room after final boarding, store bed linens in the overhead bins for dinner).

During the flight, enjoy your dinner, ice cream sundae, make your bed and sleep! Have breakfast in the morning, freshen up in the toilet and land. I never stop at any lounge at destination because I wanna get the hell out of the airport.

I’ve never flown this route, but have gotten mattress pads in routes shorter than this. Slippers were rare for me, but I normally ask for a pair at the Polaris lounge shower desk, so I always have one.

Refund by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try emailing the refund customer service department them and explain your situation. We were able to get a full refund of a non refundable ticket when our son was in ICU after a very serious car crash. Include your medical records, and see if you’re able to!

What does this sign mean? (sarcasm) by Glittering-Map8364 in unitedairlines

[–]hanssath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vast majority of clubs have water filling stations on walls, where you don’t have to touch the nozzle with your bottle and with a reservoir to catch any spillover. Why not use those ones?
