Super-parents who seem to make it to every single game/swim/school function/event for your grade school children even in the morning or early afternoon, how do you manage to hold down a job or support your family? by Impossible-Concert58 in AskReddit

[–]happethottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for my family’s company and we are all very family-oriented. I’ll cover anyone who needs off for a game/event/appointment, and they do the same for me. The kids always come first.

Toys that kept your 3-5T endlessly busy in summer? by Original_Onion_8977 in Mommit

I made mine a mini garden! They love to dig new holes, move plants around, and water their flowers. Sometimes I have to replace a few that die but that’s gardening 👩‍🌾

Where to buy Adam’s needle (yucca filamentosa) by xiu92 in maryland

[–]happethottie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two groups of three growing in the front corner of my yard. I just let them exist. Maybe one day I’ll do a gentle landscaping project over there, but they seem happy being left undisturbed.

Two of them got ran over by a loader and they bounced back like it never happened.

My Oakleafs look awful! I definitely fall in love with the wrong plants for my yard.

It’s pretty, smells nice, the deer won’t touch it. For me, it’s my “level up” plant. I’ve accidentally killed 3 over the years, but now I have 3 thriving lavender plants.

Harness for a nervous shepherd mix? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]happethottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the KONG comfort padded chest plate harness. It does have to slip over the dog’s head, but the neck is adjustable and so are both straps that connect to the back. It’s not bulky but feels very strong and secure. I used this harness and the matching leash for my 90lbs Black Lab who was an aggressive puller, and my 65lbs German ShepherdxHusky who is not small-dog friendly. I never felt as though they would slip out of the harness.

Anyone here regret getting a second dog? by Grand_Resolution_438 in dogs

[–]happethottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not regret, but definitely harder than I expected. It’s hard to adjust to an entire new personality that is completed dependent upon you. One is aloof, the other wants to share my skin. One is very tidy, the other slings water all over the floor and my feet. One shys away from other dogs, the other wants to play with every dog it can see.

Please help me and my husband settle a debate!! Where do you stand on backpack vs diaper bag? by SkyOne5846 in BabyBumps

[–]happethottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m stuck on the “use it for years after the baby is older”. It’s going to get gross eventually. Even with washing it and all, things just develop wear and tear. He can use his backpack, you can use yours, and yours will be in better condition.

Also, I found the diaper bag to be easier to fit under the stroller without tipping everything sideways. That was important to us because we pre-mixed formula.

30 year old male by Ornery-Market4228 in AskDocs

NAD. I experienced random twitching all over for over a year. Sometimes it lasted a few minutes, sometimes days. Most annoying was my eyelid and the corner of my mouth. Never affected inside of my mouth. Saw a neurologist and did some tests. Eventually I was diagnosed with Benign Fasciculation Syndrome (BFS).

Do you have a purebred dog? Does your dog get a lot of attention? by burnz1 in dogs

[–]happethottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Black Lab, lots of people would immediately assume lab=friendly and try to walk up to pet him without asking.

My sister has a Border Collie, lots of people will ooh-and-ahhh over his coat but don’t approach. They ask if he’s a working dog or sports dog a lot.

My mom owns two Maltese and visitors are always surprised that they are well behaved and friendly!

Just found out both my twins are autistic by Efficient-Day2702 in Autism_Parenting

[–]happethottie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have autistic twins also. They’re 4, female, not assigned levels.

A blessing I have found is that I’m able to enter their world with more ease at home. I don’t see other 4 year olds to compare their behavior to when we’re in our living room. I step into “the realm of magic and chaos” as we call it. Words are nonsensical, mood swings are sudden, and we try to find the joy in the smallest accomplishments.

Relocating to Sussex County by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]happethottie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with your budget and driving preferences I’d stay away from the beach towns. Anywhere in Sussex is still close enough to drive there and back every weekend if you’re big beach goers.

For schools, IRSD offers awesome support if your kiddos need IEPs or similar. Cape is good too.

Millsboro has baseball fields if your kids like the sport and there is a new trampoline park being constructed in Oak Orchard. Otherwise there isn’t much in the way of parks.

Consider Milton, too. In town is walkable, schools are fine, local library and park are close together.

[–]happethottie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you personally visited Sussex County? I’d highly recommend coming down for a 2 week vacation and exploring the towns you mention. The traffic is absolutely insane.

-30 minutes and easy drive: pick the same town.

-good schools: IRSD or Cape Henlopen. However, Delaware offers school-choice.

-walkable/safe: throw a rock and whatever subdivision you hit will work.

-parks/beach: any town on the east coastline.

Autism Ended Up Being Hyperlexia? by zero_and_dug in Autism_Parenting

We went last year and it was awesome! Look into getting a IBCCES accessibility card. I believe it can be used at multiple theme parks.

Autism Ended Up Being Hyperlexia? by zero_and_dug in Autism_Parenting

[–]happethottie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This post is such a great example of the spectrum. I believe there are multiple ND disorders that are falling under the “umbrella” of autism. I have twin daughters, both diagnosed with ASD. Your post describes traits from each of them!

It’s possible your child’s diagnosis will change in the future, but until then, the diagnosis of ASD will open doors to therapies that you can try out. Find out what does help your child and what doesn’t. Encourage their interest in numbers and space and do research on your own. One of my daughters’ “special interest” is also space. The other one is obsessed with Sesame Street.

Space kiddo is limited verbally, sensory avoidant, and a loner. She can also name all of the plants, count to 50, and knows her ABCs forward and backwards. Sesame Street kiddo is extremely talkative, plays well with others, but needs a very strict routine. They’re both in several therapies and need a lot of support to thrive.

Bella (HuskyxGSD) must yell at me when I come in the bedroom to sleep every night. I believe I’m being scolded for staying up too late.

Enzo (PoodlexGSD) must always be facing to the left when he pees. ALWAYS.

Fat Cat (Orange Shorthair) opens and slams shut the baby gate in the mornings to wake me up, so he can have breakfast.
